Was The Spurs Game That Bad?

Fernandez was obviously knackered, and should have come off earlier, he'd played really well but he won a couple of tackles and you could see further running wasn't possible. Osman played better second half, he isn't a left winger, and running from centre mid he caused Spurs lots of trouble (mind you, it was him who gave the ball away fro the first goal) Jenas never had a kick, and Beattie's contribution was limited to crosses from the right where he didn't have to challenge 6 5" Gardner. He's clueless. Stubbs had another great game. Amazing. A game we should not have lost, if our midfield could pass to each other, we'd be great. Steve K. (27/02/07)

Spurs Match

Hopefully, this match will be a watershed in the removing of Moyes as manager of everton. he has shown yet again that he does not have the tactical acumen and positive approach needed for this club. he makes crass decisions on a regular basis and has lost too many point for this to be acceptable. i want him to leave now before the club becomes any more of an embarrassment. i don't care that some people will say he's steadied the ship, or that he's still learning, or give him more time - what we are regularly witnessing is not good enough to clean alex young's, roy vernon's, gary linekar's, andy gray's, graeme sharpe's, joe royle's, alan ball's, colin harvey's, howard kendall's, neville southall's boots MOYES OUT. Peete. (22/02/07)

EUROPE HERE WE COME

Don’t know if you watched the highlights but we stank big time against Spurs. In a warped way I’m glad we got beat cos as I keep saying every stumbled victory or point that ginger tosser manages to scrape gives him a longer stay of execution. And moves us further away from winning any thing ever again. Got to be realistic while Kenshite is in charge mediocrity is the name of the game mid to lower table is acceptable for him as long as we don’t go down, which we wont this season but who knows next year. So that makes the Ging water tight. The only possible way he is goin is if we have a disastrous run of results. As long as we did’nt go down I would accept that to get rid of him and hopefully move forward.

Kenshite has got to go too that will happen if the fans get together and with a concerted effort like we had against hamper man it might just happen. Last night was typical of what it means to be an Evertonian. We are getting turned over at home by an average Spurs side. While the dark side enjoy another “Glory” night abroad. It's just not good enough. At least some of the fans are starting to vote with their feet. Tickets on sale right up to kick off only 340000 in the ground . One can only hope that this rings a few alarm bells with the board though somehow I doubt it. We’ll have to wait till we start nudging 240000 gates it will take time but it will happen with what these muppets are serving up.

Anyway bout the match. As soon as we saw the line up with Biffa in I thought Like you here we go again. But the highlights as you well know don’t show the whole story. Biffa done ok. Big Vic was shite. But what I don’t understand is why???. I saw this lad pre-season at Preston (yeh I know Preston) but he was RUNNING at people TAKING people on SHOOTING and causing havoc. But lately he has gone shite all he wants to do is barge ,elbow and try and rough people up and treat the ball like a hot potato and get rid of it as soon as he gets it, anywhere will do not even to one of his own men. Is this the Moyes influence or what? has he lost it?? Is he playing to orders?? Or generally just gone shite (the latter I find hard to believe). But subbing him at H/T was probably just about justified but why not bring our ONLY forward on the subs bench on in place of him. I keep forgetting I’m rabbitting about “Dithering Dave” here and “Incompetent Irvine” not a management duo with any tactical awareness bottle or ability. But bringing Dingle on?!?! That really balanced everything up. Expecting Roger to overlap and provide the left sided attacking option with the inept Naysmith was another Moyes master stroke.

This enabled Biffa to become even more isolated and continue to take an even bigger battering from those to Neanderthals masquerading as centre halves at the back for Spurs. WHY WONT YOU GIVE VAUGHNY A DECENT RUN IN THE SIDE MOYES?????. I’ve seen Fernandes twice now and something does’nt quite sit comfortably with me watching him. I see a player with more skill than Ossie but with a lower work and effort rate (did’nt think that was possible) His body language says to me that he is here under sufferance. Lets be real here no-one else wanted him. Moyes only manages to sign players when he has no competition for their signatures. I think Manny boy is just keeping himself fit till the end of the season till a bigger club comes along (there's no way we’ll be shelling £12 mil out) Where he can go and show off some of his “You Tube. Com” skills .

There was no movement or desire as I saw it from him to get stuck in and win the ball and try and dictate the game. Carsley (who in my opinion was MOM) made him look pedestrian. Even my Mrs who was at her annual one game a season said to me last night Arteta should get more money than the rest of the players cos he seemed to have the ball more than any one else. And why are’nt Everton moving (she meant running) about as much as Spurs where?? She was right on both counts our effort and commitment at time was woeful and our tactic was bump it up to a cut off Beattie or bang it wide to Tata and hope he beats 11 men and slots one in. No back up play or support for either player.

Cometh the hour cometh the man 1-1 at home with the Spurs there for the taking time for a Moyes/Irvine master stroke in tactical substitutions. Get Jimmy V on possibly Da Silva go 3 at the back 4 mid 3 up top Get the crowd goin and go for the victory. After all Jimmy and DS had bin warming up for about half an hour. But NOOOOOOOOOOOO. Hibbert fuckin Hibbert he did’nt even warm up. Lets keep what we’ve got 1-1 at home you piss taking waste of space Moyes. WHY WONT YOU GIVE VAUGHNY A DECENT RUN???????.

Chaos rained supreme then. Neville in the mid not knowing who to pick up. Too many defenders with no-one to mark. Poor Beattie even more isolated than before. It was a nap they would score Jenas totally unmarked in the middle of a 10 man midfield/defensive unit in total disarray. Well done Ging. 2mins to go (“Dads Army” for those of you young enough to remember syndrome kicks in……don’t panic …don’t panic.) I know what to do thinks Davey boy I’LL GIVE VAUGHNY A DECENT RUN NOW (I’ll sub me sub). 2mins to go he might grab a couple. You are a pathetic loser Moyes with a loser mentality and the sooner you go the better. Could be worse though the shite could ave beaten Barca AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRGGHHHH and I missed me train and got pissed wet through goin home. Chris (the original Wirral Blue). (22/02/07)

'Nuff said'

Martin Jol says: ‘We decided to go for it, to put on attacking players and I was very pleased that it was us, the away side, going for the victory in those closing stages rather than what you would expect from a home team’. Steve McBride. (22/02/07)

Spurs Match Reaction

Moyes has lost the plot - simple as that. And i am losing my patience with him, and really do not think he can take the club forward any further. Fernandes was having a stormer. Tired? Bollocks Moyes. We are tired of your shite substitutions. You are proving yourself to be an inept lower league boss. You have done fine in your time with us, but no matter how poor we are in terms of finance, its your stupid negativity which is costing us more. Naysmith for Anichebe? Beattie a full 90 mins to do sweet fa again? Take your best midfielder off for a defender with 5 mins to go? Give your most exciting youngster 2 mins of injury time to salvage a point? Spurs were pissing all over us in our own back yard, and Moyes just made it easier for them to go on and win it. Nice one boss... Imran Malik, Dubai. (22/02/07)

4-4-2?

Moysie, we didn’t, and don’t play 4-4 bloody 2, we play 4-1-3-2 with you telling Cars to play the role he plays in a 5, holding onto Stubbs/Yobo/Lescott’s nuts leaving a lone central midfielder, Fernandes this time, covering acres of space and battling at least 2 opposition players, result?, they keep coming at us because we allow them the freedom of the middle of the park!! So stop the excuses for last night and stop playing 5 defenders when we have 2 strikers on the park cos if we lose the midfield the strikers are unlikely to get a fucking chance anyway!
Settling for a draw at home against a mediocre side is not acceptable and the reasoning for your subs, tiredness, with 5 minutes to go is shite. Even if you didn’t know how to play with 4 midfielders you could have at least swapped Beattie, who was knackered, for Vaughan for the last 20 minutes to give Spurs something to think about.

Still sooner see the back of Kenwright than Moyes though, at the moment. Positive, progressive thinking starts at the top! Steve - Walton. (22/02/07)

Spurs Game

I really couldn't believe what i was seeing last night. This was the game in had we had to win to show the rest of league we meant business in pushing in to a European spot. Laughable. I'm 25 years old and be going the match since I was 10-11 and I've never seen Goodison boo in so much disapproval at our tactics (or lack of) and our substitutions. I can sort of see why he brought Naysmith on. Chimbonda was pushing forward in the first half and he tried to stop that. But surely putting a pacey Vaughan on instead would have pushed Chimbonda further back as surely Vaughan would have ran at him a few times and gave the right back something to think about. As for bringing Hibbert on - what a joke. Nothing against Hibbert, but when it is 1-1 and we're at home, we should be pushing for the 3 points against a team like Spurs. Instead Moyes made an ultra defensive decision and invited pressure on to us resulting in them getting the winner. On a whole we looked slow, not as fit as Spurs and generally an "old" looking team with what can only say 2 1980's style average centre forwards in the 1st half. Absolutely gutted about the result. I along with a lot of Blues are sick and tired of watching this defence minded manager play this dross week in week out. Adam. (22/02/07)

Maximum Points

With the Spurs debacle off the back of our minds, it's vital we get maximum points out of the trips to Vicarage Road and Bramall Lane - what hope have we got if we can't beat them? We shall beat them, we must beat them. We've still got Arsenal, United and Chelsea to come before the season's end. COYB. Jiing Yih. Singapore. (22/02/07)

Spurs Reaction

There was Sven, then there was Mclaren, now Moyesy? For some strange reason our manager seems to be going the wrong way? Instead of going with the right subs we lose out and go out with a defend. When you've got 4
defenders on, bring on another defender...why? When you've got 5 defenders on bring on another defender...why? For some strange reason he thinks that 1 point is worse than 3 points. Maybe do that away but not at home. Vaughan had been on the touchline for more than 30 minutes warming up, and he brings on a defender instead of the pace of vaughan. And just to take the piss then he takes off Naysmith the SAME defender he brought on at half time. Thanks. Steve. (22/02/07)

Spurs

Short and simple, can anyone defend Moyes now? said enough in the past, finally the crowd have turned, watch this space! Matt (lower Gwladys season ticket holder) both before and after moyes! (22/02/07)

Naysmith Left Winger

'The changes hadn't worked as well as I'd have hoped' - I'm sorry but if Moyes thinks there was ever going to be another outcome with Naysmith
playing left wing then questions have to be asked about his sanity. Bottom line is his changes were negative bringing Vaughan on 90 mins to
late was an insult to all inside Goodison. Vaughan has more to his game than Anichebe who doesn't really do it for me. Graham, Waterloo. (22/02/07)

Spurs Game

Well i am a little confused... is time travel actually possible?? I could have sworn i just watched a game under the managerial tactics of Walter
Smith! 6 Defenders! Pathetic Moyes, no wonder Benitez is making "small club" comments with tactics like that. Andy. (22/02/07)

Tactics

I only have one question for David Moyes, in light of our defensive debacle seven men at the back, WHY?

WHY? WHY?WHY?WHY?WHY?

Am not a tactician but when Fernandez went off you could just see Spurs would score what a joke, am employed by the government, if I used tactics like that my own men would shoot me, so please please please Mr.. Moyes Buck up your ideas or Buck Off, truly gutted, we needed this to get to Europe now we have no outlet, Watford next then Warnock the wankers Sheffield, both games that I feel we will lose looking at that performance, I am the most optimistic person I know but now am flummoxed to say the least, it is quiet apparent that Davy moyes has not been on a BIG JOB before so please please don't let this happen again. your a concerned blue boy. JPB. (22/02/07)

Fine Him

Well what can you say after that I'll try my best. 34,000 supporters and only 2 people in the whole stadium would have put Naysmith on at half time Naysmith himself is one, and unfortunately our tactically inept manager is the other. When will Moyes learn if its not broke don't fix it. We do reasonably well playing with a lone striker, AJ gets injured so we completely change the system and go 4 4 2. With all due respect in 2/3 years time Victor will be lucky if he's playing for Crewe he just isn't good enough, Lee Carsley can only play in front of the back four and not in central midfield. If Hibbert was fit he should have started pushing Neville into midfield with Cars defensive and Fernandes getting forward to support a striker in the Cahill role, as for the striker either Beattie or my preference Vaughan who's the closest thing to AJ we have at the club, he's fast he's tricky and he's tremendously enthusiastic. To compound matters Moyes then takes off one of the only two footballers we have at the cub and replaces him with a right back leaving us with 7 defensive players on the pitch and Spurs still managed to score.
Mikel Arteta will have walked away from that ground last night and been straight on to his agent saying get me a move in the summer, as for signing Fernandes I don't think we had much chance of signing him anyway now we haven't got a hope in hell he's to good. To hear Moyes come out and say he understands our frustration is utter bullshit he's not an Evertonian and doesn't have to pay to watch that and what's more is probably getting 20 Grand a week to boot. Bill Kenwright should drag him into his office this morning a fine him a weeks wages for total ineptitude. But he won't he'll probably be holding auditions for Blood Brothers somewhere. Kevin Jones. (22/02/07)

Fans Reaction

A game we were needing to win coz we are now apparently 'looking up instead of down'. So brings on a 6th defender (regardless of the formation we played, they're all negatively minded, barring lescott who did his utmost to go against moyes wishes and pushed on as much as he could) with 5 minutes to go with the game at 1-1...the inevitable happened. It was only then he made the change he should have made at half time, Vaughan on. I've nothing against Hibbert, but it just wasn't necessary, so many times we have given the other side the impetus to go at us. It happened the other week v Reading, we just got away with it, same vs liverpool for the whole game, scraping through (good result? we defended for 90 minutes). Manchester City at home earlier in the season we were 1-0 up and had the upper hand, we finished with about 7 defenders on the pitch and they equalised at the death, its a joke, we're supposed to be the home team going for the win. Martin Jol admitted afterwards a draw would have been an extremely good result for them, bet he couldn't believe his luck when hibbert came on for one of our best players.

Everyone loves Moyes coz we finished fourth, but lets be realistic, if liverpool or even bolton, had played anywhere near their capability for the remainder of that season we would have been nowhere near 4th spot. Pure luck. 4-5-1 depends too much on riding ur luck an we can't afford that if we want europe. We were unlucky vs Villarreal ,ok, but, even skem united would have given rapid bucharest a better game than what we did. In my eyes, it happens constantly, we just usually get away with it or it ends in a draw. I'm afraid he may have brought us on a level but he is not the man to take us to the next. He has to go. DannyC. (22/02/07)

No Ambition

Settling for a draw at half time against a team below us in the league shows that the manager has about the same ambition as the board of our once great club. The booing wasn't only for bringing Hibbert on for Fernandez but also for the halftime substitution. We finished the game with 6 defenders and a defensive midfielder on the pitch, what did the manager expect to happen.

Maybe now the board can rest easy knowing that they wont have to cough up any money in the summer due to the heightened expectations of qualifying for Europe. Simply not getting relegated is not good enough for us loyal supporters but it seems to be good enough for the manager and board. How long before the likes of Arteta/Cahill/Lescott jump ship, who could blame them. Saddened season ticket holder in the Top Balcony
David O'Grady. (22/02/07)

Back Moyes

I'm sick of everyone asking for Moyes's head. That was the first game we've lost in nine matches. On another day we could have had another three goals last night. Robinson pulled off two outstanding saves from Osman and on another day we could have had a penalty after Chimbonda clearly stopped the ball with his hand. If all them chances had gone in then we would have all been in the pub thinking of who we'd like to play in Europe.

Moyes has always been pretty honest, and has said throughout the season we are short on numbers. Last night we were missing our two most influential players and I'm sure Moyes would rather have had Andy Mayde on the bench than Naysmith. Moyes' has done nothing but take this club forward on and off the pitch. We are starting to attract big players and with a bit of luck and some more of Moyes's bargains we could be making that step up on a regular basis. Let's see what happens Saturday. I'm confident Wednesday night will all be forgotten if we win. Keep us moving forward Moyes and kick kenwright up the arse or check the back of his sofa. Danny. (22/02/07)

Spurs Mistakes

That was the worst managerial error I have ever seen at goodison, the last 10 mins at home you should be pushing for a win that would of put us in a great position for a European push. Moyes stopped what was a good atmosphere building in the ground and a sense of urgency from the players, no wonder Mikkeys thinking of going elsewhere with a manager with such low expectations and who is happy to settle for a point at home against lesser opposition. Managers have been sacked for lesser offences. Parker (Street End) (22/02/07)

Blackburn Game

What a day! I was lucky enough to enjoy the delights offered by the marquee. If I was paying for it I would have been gutted as the meal was shite but hey ho free chang on tap compensated, and a padded seat was a luxury never before tasted at Goodison!
Fernandes and shandy for me where excellent in the first half. Shandy giving us some width and Fernandes trickery and willingness to link up both ends of the field. So I ask this. Why oh why change it to accommodate that useless bag of fuckin onions Beattie. How many chances is this dross expensive piece of shite going to be given before the reserves get to enjoy his skills on a regular basis? Apart from that a superb performance from the blues. Stubbs showing once again that Moyesy can't let him go and if he does he is a wanker. Lescott, Yobo and Hibbo solid and Arteta at his best again. Johnson needs no commentary. He's fuckin brilliant week in week out, and I hope Osman is going to find it really difficult to get back in after our performance because it was as good as I've seen us play this season. The scoreline didn't reflect our dominance and as an extra special treat Mark Hughes threw on judas jeffers at the end so we could all rip him to bits !!! Top notch. Joeverton. (22/02/07)

Disappointing JJB

Living in Oxfordshire we have quite a few blues spattered around the county and yet we cannot buy any Everton merchandise from any of the JJB outlets from any of the stores "fantastic marketing don't you think from the club who proudly fly the flag for our Official Retail Partners" I mean I can buy a bottle of Chang at most Bars & Offies. Matt from Lower St End you are spot on mate. And once again the Rules can be bent to accommodate the Red Shite. Anyway from a once proud St End Season ticket holder, gave it up this season however still get to as many games as possible though, come on Everton surprise us and compete for what we deserve, on and off the field. John Eynsham, Oxon. (21/02/07)

Toffees

Reading your tributes to Paul Mac I feel that I could take this opportunity to tell you something I wanted to share with you a few months ago but couldn't find the correct time to do so.

Last year a fellow blue, George Mc, who lived close to me in north Cumbria died suddenly whilst abroad on a family holiday. I found out too late to visit the family before the funeral. The first time we met after George's tragedy was as we entered the church. I was greeted by George's wife Joyce at the church door and exchanged our thoughts and feelings. As I turned to take my seat I overheard one of George's son-in-law's saying, "Who's that?" "Evertonian." came the reply. "Ah. Right."

After the service I found myself alone standing next to the bearers as George's coffin was transferred into the hearse. I looked at the flowers on top of the coffin, blue and white, naturally. As I stood there with my hands in my overcoat pockets I felt some loose Everton mints/toffees that we always have hanging around. My 8 year boy just likes the quirky image of offering them to his friends. Embarrassed at not having had time to visit the family and not having bought any flowers I instinctively placed a single toffee atop of the coffin, hoping nobody saw me do this, but in my mind it was my single act of respect.

Later, Joyce told me that she saw me do something. I explained, knowing that she'd understand. She loved the thought that I'd done 'something for him to remember his team'. Joyce told me that she'd placed a blazer pocket badge of the club crest inside with George.

For a few weeks afterwards I wanted to email Bluekipper to tell this story but eventually thought that the time had passed. The reason for telling you is that I just thought that it would be a simple act of respect from fellow Evertonians to each other to take a single Everton toffee and find a place to offer it to the memory of our fellow blue friends.

This email is not intended for display on your website, it's up to you if you do post it. I just wanted to tell you that I did some act of what could be called self indulgence, but actually brought a smile of acknowledgement. I thought that maybe other Evertonians may wish to do likewise at the passing of a fellow blue. Many thanks for reading this. Gwladys. (21/02/07)

Confused Over Yozzer

As regards the transfer of Mark Hughes, I too was was disappointed as I had been lead to believe he was one for the future, I am confused however, if the several supporters think he is true quality, why were Northampton (a very poor lower league team) the only club prepared to sign him? I offer this thought with no bias one way or the other - he may come back in 5 years as an England international, but isn't that true of many other players at numerous clubs? Well done to the boys on Saturday-please press on now and get a top 6 place. clayson (21/02/07)

Class - Does Size Matter?

I don't understand the furore surrounding Rafa Benitez's post match comments on Saturday, would you expect anything less from a manager who has assembled a multimillion-pound squad that had failed to score at home against an opposition that humiliated them in the corresponding fixture earlier in the season? No, all top managers complain about the oppositions tactics. Benitez is simply a hypocrite, he applied the same tactics against United when they played at Old Trafford and will no doubt do the same later this month at the Nou Camp. Middlesbrough used them on us in December with their six-man defence, did I criticise them after the game? Of course not I berated Moyesy for being negative, for not breaking them down and being unable to attempt tactical substitutions. I'm not having a go at him this time, I reckon 4:5:1 was the way to go at Anfield and if Johnson had of been 100% then who knows what the outcome would have been.

I'm not even annoyed by the inference Benitez made during his post match interview, the guy had just been humiliated, yet again, he's giving an
interview in a foreign language and whilst searching for a suitable adjective he unfortunately uses the word "small" in a way that implies Everton are a small club. Are we a small club? No, so why are we concerned about the statement? Why the uproar in the media and between the fans? Why does Big Keith deem it necessary to put a statement on the club website when a polite "we have no comment about other teams performances" would have been suffice. The simple fact is this; we are one of England's top-flight clubs and have been for the past 129 years. Everton are one of the greats in the history of English football, we have the trophies and players over those years to prove it so there is little point in getting upset over it. Should Benitez apologise? Of course not, he's made himself look a complete idiot and I'm happy with that perception.

The only annoying aspect of the whole episode is the number of shite fans eagerly exhibiting their joy and excitement over the "small club" reference. There is no debate to have regarding Everton being a small club, what the shite are really saying is bigger equals better and frankly I find this offensive. I was listening to Talk Radio yesterday and the number of RS callers and their grasp of reality was frankly amazing. One claimed the "we", you know that "we" means they never go to the match, had always assumed that Everton were a small club along with Watford, Portsmouth, Wigan, Charlton etc and couldn't understand what all the fuss about, another claimed that the majority of Everton fans are drawn from Ellesmere Port (I kid you not!) and North Wales and were under a misapprehension with regard to the size and stature of Everton, not sure what the logic was behind that one, and then there came the usual array of "How many European Cups have they won". To be fair a couple of sensible RS rang in, both fairly critical of the Benitez comments, and wanted, quite correctly, to discuss their own team's most recent inept performance and not EFC.

The debate over who's the better and who's the bigger has raged on for years and frankly it's pretty childish. Objectively they are the bigger club, during the past thirty years they've won more trophies and consistently held a higher overall position in the league, a consequence of this success has been increased national and international TV exposure resulting in increased revenue and an expanded fan base from which improved merchandise sales and higher gate receipts from success led Southerners and Scandinavians have been combined to fund organic ground and team development. It's a recipe for success that is difficult to challenge over a short timescale unless you can find massive philanthropic funding as have Chelski in recent years. This is a simplified non-intellectual argument that your typical lobotomised koppite can easily comprehend, for the rest or us it's a little more complicated.

So they're bigger, are we worried? No. Does success alone define if you're a large or small club? If that were the only criteria then Notts Forest, with two European cups, are bigger than Celtic and are on par with United and Barcelona, they're not. Following this argument through United have won less major silverware than the RS, two European Cups against five, so does that make United the smaller club? No, United are one of the biggest clubs in the world, with regular gates of over 75,000; so that particular RS hypothesis is a failure.

Is bigger better? Ford, GM and Toyota are bigger and sell more cars than Porsche, Bentley and Ferrari but nobody would say that they make better cars would they? Objectively success and fan base size are evidently only two contributory facets of the definition of being a big club, ground capacity, funding and current league position must also be included. The imponderable element of the equation is far more subjective, it's something you've either got or you haven't and if you haven't no matter how hard you try it will always remain elusive. So what is this intangible quality?

It's the reason Everton has always been a great club, it's the reason Everton is a big club and it's the same reason that Everton will always be the better club.

It's the reason why gentlemen like Dean and Labone played in blue and white and not red. It's the reason we don't have to unfurl banners claiming "one club, one city, one name - Oslo" or ones that exhibit profound biblical quotations to remind people how clever we are.

It's the reason why our captains are magnanimous in victory and don't sing stupid songs about being tragic or why our players wouldn't urinate on their own fans isn't it Terry Mac.

It's the reason why our Chief Executive has never had to make a national press apology for our fans throwing human excrement and urine at visiting fans.

It's the reason why our fans wouldn't enviously smash up an opponents ground during a semi final.

It's the reason why we wouldn't renege on a deal with a honourable man in favour of greed.

It's the reason why our off pitch activities will never disgrace a national sport and denigrate the city name internationally for generations to come.

It's the reason why that guy was able to write, "We may not have had your glory but we will never have your shame"

Still don't know? The answer's in the title. Colin Fitz. (21/02/07)

Our Tater

Just wanted to convey my anger at the bullshit that, once again, emanates from the 'soccer experts' at the daily toilet roll commonly called The Sun. Do they ever get anything as far as soccer in Liverpool, blue or red, is concerned??

Mikey says, on more than one occasion, that one day he will return to play in Spain.....what's the harm in that? Absolutely nothing as far as i'm concerned he's being completely honest. Unfortunately the 'expert reporter' from The Sun switched off at that stage (well it was probably over 15 seconds into the interview) and completely missed the rest of his comments where he said how happy he was at Goodison and wanted to extend his contract!!

Cue the 'sensational exclusive' that he was off at the end of this season!!! Living in the South I cant convey to my friends how much that rag, just cant bring myself to call it anything else, is vilified on Merseyside so does anybody else think they are just trying to wind the locals up?? I'm toying with the Idea of dropping them an email asking them to read the official club site for what was really said........but that would mean one of them had some slight intelligence so I wont waste my time!!! Keep up the great work, great site!! Martyn in Colchester. (21/02/07)

Big Hearts

I believe that when Mr. Beanitez made the comment about Everton being a 'small team' he was referring to the likes of Hibbert, Arteta, Osman, Neville, Cahill and Johnson who are all of small physical stature......but with large hearts and endless spirit they made his humiliated rag bag team wish they were so small that the ground would have opened and gobbled them up at the final whistle. Frankieboy. (10/02/07)

Body Mass

I can only assume that when Benitez refers to clubs as "big" or "small", he's talking about actual body mass. Much as I hate to admit it, but with him as manager and Reina, Bellamy and Fowler on the squad, Liverpool are definitely a much "bigger" club than Everton. Too bad for them the Premiership's not a pie eating contest. COYB. from Medium Dunc. (06/02/07)

we never play just wait for next one we see what happen then

Against my better judgement I'm willing to give Rafa the benefit of the doubt ref small club statement. I don't think he has the intelligence to make a sarcastic underhand remark even if he wanted to. What the Sky Telly bloke should have reminded him of was the statement he made after the Goodison thrashing and I quote in pigeon English " we never play just wait for next one we see what happen then" well its been and gone Rafa so maybe we should wait for the next one or the one after that perhaps. And why o why do the red fans shout "huffff", in a cockney accent, every time a opposition player clears the ball but when they constantly launch the ball up to Crouch ( just to sidetrack if he's a footballer I,m a nuclear scientist, ) they all clap Kopites most definitely are gobshites. Just to finish anybody see Sky Sports Saturday morning about 11 O'clock reporter outside Anfield said he'd been there since 9 O'clock and said the first group of people he met where a gang of Norwegians fit to burst with excitement, I nearly pissed myself laughing. Kevin Jones. (06/02/07)

The Derby

soooo what can i say? dead proud of our defence and lets be honest aj had the only real chance all match. don't worry andy, you'll do it next time, you can't score in every derby, gerrard will testify to that. bet you gerrard's made up now that the red shite have wreaked the 'revenge' they promised us after the goodison derby (like the revenge they promised arsenal after the first cup match at 'fortress' anfield). note to steven, don't make promises you have no chance in hell of ever delivering.

I was personally made up after enduring stick throughout the game from sum big fat red dyke in wellies (presumably worn to wade through the shite in the pub) who embarrassed her own fella when he told her to sit down. hahahaha. blue forever and ever. Christine Vibrans. (06/02/07)

Derby Day After - Thoughts

Well the Derby came and went and all the hype and hot air from our rivals across the park came to nothing. I said it would be 0-0, in fact on a positive note we made them look rather ordinary, I can only remember one shot on target throughout the entire game. In some ways, it is hats off to Davie, although I am a critic of his managerial skills and indeed his tactics, I have to give credit where it is due and I think that the way we started the game, in such a positive manner, we were able to put them on the back foot for that all important first 10 - 15 minutes. You could see they were more nervous than us, the club and indeed their fans had bigged the game up for almost two weeks, and apart from the Giraffes effort in the first half which Howard was equal too, I thought we handled their 3 pronged attack very well.

On a lesser note, I would have liked us to try to step forward 5 yards, particularly in the last 15/20 minutes when I thought they may spawn the game 1-0, but we did not let them get behind us apart from the Pennant cross near to the end, so in all fairness well done to the manager and the lads, I suggested in my last correspondence that we " should stand up to them and be firm" and we did, I thought the space that they left in midfield with playing 3 up front allowed us to, on the odd occasion to play the ball out of defence. I can only hope now, that on the back of this result, that we can push forward, we only have two home games between now and the end of March, it is absolutely imperative that we win these two games, and go to Watford and Sheff Utd and try to pick up at least 4 points on our travels, if we do, I can see the 6th spot beckoning, and with it more cash from SKY.

We all know that the UEFA cup actually costs you money to participate in, BUT, what it does do, is get the name of Everton Football Club on the map again in Europe, what we need is an excellent run of form until the end of the season, our record at present is not too bad, we have only lost 1 in 7 in the Premiership ( and that was at Shitteeh, when really we should have taken a point ) so lets get behind the team from now until the end of the season, and help us to finish in that all important 6th place.

On one final note, the remark made by Benitez, personally I am trying, really trying to hope that his comment "small team" etc was somewhat lost in translation, but if he really meant it, well all it has done is add to the burgeoning hatred between the two sets of supporters, we all know it has been there since the Sixties if we are all honest, but is now part and parcel of following both local clubs, I think what Moyes said "this is the peoples club" when he took over the reins has never really been forgotten by the "Moores", and in some ways you could say that this is there way of trying to achieve "payback". The difference of course is that Moyes was and still is correct, and Benitez is indeed very wrong !! ( 4th most successful English League Club ever ) The Busy Fool

Small Club

I thought that we did"nt care what the red shite say! Turns out that we fucking well DO care. I"m no less pissed off than everybody else but don"t you think that perhaps we " protest too much " ? After all even with our history we have really done bugger all for the best part of 20 sodding years. Yes that"s right TWENTY years ( apart from 1995) of failure. Let"s at least admit the truth to ourselves - if we had"nt become a "small " club we would"nt have had the crown jewels pinched from us and we would be now getting ready to plonk our arses down in the best stadium in the country on the King"s dock. And those facts can"t be hidden. I for one have had a basin full of it. John de Frece. (06/02/07)

Bad Blood At The Derby

Great result, silly remark about "small club" childish at worst better to have ignored it. A pity that once again the occasion was spoilt by our so
called supporters, the extremely offensive remarks about Steven Gerrard's family were out of line, however the chant in reference to “ The Thirty
Nine” was a new low even for us. Lets not fall back on the old excuse that it was only a minority, its wasn’t I was one of the few who didn’t “Stand Up for the 39”. Thanks to Mr Benitez remarks, the comments in the Sunday newspapers seem to have been missed by most people, one said kindly I think that the chants were “below the belt”, three other more accurately said “sick”, is it any wonder that Barton turned us down after the personal abuse directed at his family during the Man. City game. If Mr Wyness wishes to retain the moral high ground the club should add something to the website condemning the chants. Oscar King. Wavertree.

skysports news

Had the following e-mail read out by Paul Boardman (son of totally unfunny Stan) on Saturday night on skysports news. With regards to small club big club status.

Everton have won 9 championships the last one coming only 3 years before liverpoo's last one. We were founder members of the football league, pioneers at every stage of football (first team to wear numbers v Man City 1933 cup final, first team to have a purpose built stadium, first team to play under floodlights, first team to have double decker stand around all of the ground, first team to have undersoil heating, first team to have amassed 100 years in top flight football and the only team to have had a goalscorer Dixie Dean score 60 goals in a season) etc etc etc. We where the first team in liverpool, we won the league when we played at anfield and have won a major trophy (fa cup or league) in every decade except the 40's. The size of a football club does not come from two decades of glory, but from a number of things like HISTORY and fan base (when things haven't gone well we've still pulled in 35-40,000 supporters regularly.

Benitez is an ignorant man with a sour streak, how dare he comment on something that he knows nothing about (mind you, he does that every week). I hope he remains in charge of liverpoo for a long while, because they will NEVER win the premier league while he is there. But I suggest that the new owners will not put up with him for long, as they will not want to hear about what liverpool used to win. Liverpool have not won a league for 17 years so does that mean that they are not a big club ????

To which a reply from a Shite fan in Hull questioned Moyes' People's club comment....... Even Boardman's fellow news presenter had to re-iterate that the e-mail came from HULL - are redshite really that thick???? Born a blue, Live a blue, Die a blue. Ste Kelly. (06/02/07)

The Shite are Shite

What a great performance from the Blue Boys against the Shite. It was'nt pretty but who gives a fuck. How many clear chances did the dirty red twats create in 90 mins? Not one. With a bit more luck we might of stole it, but never mind A.J, you did more than enough when we beat the fuckers 3-0 at Goodison. How dare that cheeky twat benitez insult us calling our club small. He must be munching on a very bitter bunch of grapes. 3 hours of football and no goals against a solid Blue defence, take a look at your own Shite (crouch pennant fowler finnan) before you judge others you cunt. Special mention to Stubbs Yobo and Lescott who were outstanding. Show this kind of spirit and determination every week and Europe will be a real possibility.Ste OConnor (06/02/07)

Brave Evertonian

If you can, could you put something up about this little girl; she's one of the bravest Bluenoses you're likely to see. Thanks anyway gents. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/north_east/6316415.stm Hope the hangover is better!!! Rich Welsh Blues. (06/02/07)

Sour Grapes

So Rafael thinks we're a 'small' Club. Maybe he should speak to any Liverpool fan that was around in the mid Eighties when we were top of the pile in this country. For some reason we were kicked out of Europe (slips my mind why at the moment). They say that success breeds success. Well that opportunity was wrenched from our grasp through no fault of our own. If I recall correctly the behaviour of the Everton support had been described as impeccable by the Dutch authorities following our ECWC win in Rotterdam.

Anyway, just when the silly money started to come into the game, we'd fallen by the wayside. We still haven't recovered from that kick in the nuts. So think long and hard before you spout off Rafael. We have a long and proud history at this massive Club of ours. Sometimes events occur, over which we have no control. Just ask you own supporters. Apart from that, it was great to take our fourth point off them yesterday. Not bad for a 'small' Club eh?? COYB. Eddieparkend. (06/02/07)

Moyesy's Orange Shoes

Did anyone else notice the rather loud shoes Moysie was wearing against the shite?! Brown almost orange they were - matched his hair perfectly!! Cheers keep up the good work - calvo. (06/02/07)

Spanish Waiter

Forget about the result. Lets think about what the "Spanish waiter" called us......."A small club." How can we expect a foreigner to know anything about us. Even "The Great One" said he had great respect for EVERTON FC, Its manager and its supporters. Nothing less than The Echo, Radio Merseyside, Radio City and the rest calling for an explanation on how he arrives at this conclusion will do. Send him our history. And just as an aside...a few words from an article in The Guardian earlier in the week. The sh### have a unique ability to twist the long arm of the law. Last season they got a berth into the "Big Cup" even though they weren't entitled and now their incessant whinging has forced FIFA into letting them sign Mascherano despite the rules. And that BLUEKIPPER is the case for the prosecution. Blueernie. Southport. (06/02/07)

Saucer of milk table two

What a fat pompous twat beneathus really is. We had the best chance in the first half when hibbo should have scored then we had the best chance of the game when aj nearly settled it fair enough they had more possession but what did they create fuck all. They play 3 in the middle and 3 up top because they don't play the ball in midfield. They just hoof it up to the 3 ugly bash st kids up front and hope for the best. So to deflect attention from this clueless attempt at football, he insults a side he has failed to beat this season, a side who battered them at Goodison, a side they never scored against or looked like scoring against. What a fuckin clown. Sour grapes, saucer of milk table two. He should take a walk around the city and ask the people on the street who is the big club. He would be surprised mate. The shite in South Wales, Dublin, Devon and Mecca but not in our fuckin city mate. What a big fat waste of donkey sperm he haw he is. bluestar. (06/02/07)

Bright Lights

The reason players are choosing Charlton ahead of us is simple, they are based in LONDON not the Northwest. The only players joining local clubs are ones not wanted by the LONDON clubs, Portsmouth is only an hour from London that is why players are choosing them nothing to do with Redknapp or the size of club. These players are attracted by the bright lights. Si .Wigan. (06/02/07)

Signings

Well that's one "summer" signing out the way .....and a good one too.Tim will not let us down. I suppose we will have to wait until the week before next season for another. However I am getting worried about this "undisclosed" fee creeping into our dealings. Could it be that we will not be told the fee for our outgoing transfers in an effort to stop us adding up and thinking we have £millions to spend on incoming players? When David Weir left he deserved all the plaudits given by us and if he did leave on the free would it not have been possible for Rangers to have made a donation to the Charitable fund? I am sure David would have been delighted with that gesture and it would have left a lasting legacy for a man who is now a "True Blue". Blueernie. Southport. (06/02/07)

Tim Howard

The plan is coming together the goalkeeper signed good work, we are on our way, exciting times lay ahead thank you to the staff of Everton, we will start on a journey never seen in Everton's history COYB. John Lea. (06/02/07)

Barton v Fernandes

On Saturday we had our first glimpse of Manny Fernandes in a Everton shirt, two words spring to mind, pure class. He made everything he did look oh so simple, no hustle and bustle no sprinting from one player to the next no mad tackles. He seemed to glide across the turf without much effort a sure sign of quality. If and its a big if we can sign him I think he could be on of the best signing, not just by Moyes, but Everton as a club have ever made. I know this might sound a bit over the top after one game but sometimes you just know when a player is special and I think Manny's very special indeedy. With the extra money all clubs are getting next season lets spend ours on him, believe you me if he keeps this up, the really big Clubs Man U, Chelski and the Arsenal will be sniffing. Don't forget possession is 9/10ths of the law and at the moment we have possession.
On the other hand another player we could get is Joey Barton, probably half the price and in my opinion quarter the player. I wouldn't touch that prick if he was the last midfielder on Earth, his tackle on Mendes on Saturday night was cowardly and disgusting, up till then I wanted City to get at least a point, after that I thought bollocks we'll beat Pompey to Europe anyway. Barton would bring nothing but trouble to our club. At least Big Dunc did it to peoples faces or throats in Freud's case. Regards. Kevin Jones. (06/02/07)

Blackburn Game

Good solid display, let down by lack of goals which their play deserved. Fernandes was class and like arteta is a touch player with possibly a bit more steel. Van der meyde is a fancy dan i;m afraid adds little in the way of real craft. one or two more class players in the summer and another couple of good pro's we really do have a team who can move up the league. top ten 3 yrs on the trot, now that is progress, well done moyes.
