IS THERE AN HONEST MAN WITHIN THE CLUB?

Is there anyone within the structure of the club capable of telling the truth? The day before the recent Man U game dithering David was on the official club web-site singing the praises of Richard Wright saying what a good professional he was etc.Low and behold on arrival at Goodison Ian Turner is playing. Within the last few days the Football League have said in a published statement that Tim Howard was perfectly eligible to play against MAN U. Was it part of the Rooney deal that we would not put our best eleven out against Man U? Have the league any credence remaining after the West Ham saga bearing in mind what happened to Bury? Everton owe it to their fans to tell the truth and come clean on this evocative issue. Can the fans trust the club to be honest should it go to a ballot regarding a new stadium? It is understood that the same people who counted the votes in the recent elections in Scotland are going to count the votes on the new stadium issue. I ask the club to tell the fans WHY TIM HOWARD WAS NOT PLAYING? Will this be brushed under the bulging board room carpet? JACK WARNER LIFELONG EVERTONIAN. (08/05/07)

Moyes Will Bring Success

Being a blue since the age of three, visit all the Everton website's& I read all the Everton messages that are posted on them and, like all aspects of life, many people have very different angles on one subject. Now Mr M, has gone from hero to hate figure (in some eyes) and I have to admit that on occasions his decision making, tactics and style of play has had me cursing with the best of them. But recently having read many comments that Moyes needs to go and we are not achieving anything I have been amazed(and shocked at times) at how small minded some people are. 10 years ago - and before that we were a poor side fighting relegation each season, with some poor players and more managers than you can shake a stick at - from 1990 to 2002 we had (including caretakers) 8 managers (granted some have managed more than once, however a change is still a change!!) now that is not a healthy concoction, add to that Peter (twat) Johnson to the equation and that simply is disastrous.

Since Moyes has come in, we have finished 4th in the countries best league, played in Europe, had a steady financial ship (compared to recent history) and signed some very talented internationals. Now I agree, our style of play is at times painful, but we are 6th in the league, 1 point off 5th, and we have a very talented, if thin squad. We have spent a total of £55.4 MILLION in the last 5 years considering we spent 15million on 2 players alone, that is not bad at all!

So let me put this to you, would you prefer to have Moyes, how has brought us, Arteta, Cahill, Lescott, Johnson, Anichebe, Vaughan, Howard. Or go back to Ginola, Gascoigne, Cleland, Gemmil, Alexandersson and Gerrard, who Moyes inherited? No I did not think so.

It is fine to want to be the best, and get there as quick as possible, but I look at Leeds Utd, they chased the dream by throwing money at it…..and thank my lucky stars we are where we are. BORN A BLUE, LIVE A BLUE, DIE A BLUE – FOREVER EVERTON! Simon Harwood. (05/05/07)

Stick With Moyes

The world of Everton as improved dramatically since the arrival of Moyesy. All the bull shit spouted by the naysayers, diddering being one, changing players too soon, not changing players. It doesn't matter what. For Fs get behind the man. We are Everton not the boys from the red camp. COYB. John Lea. (05/05/07)

Phil Neville

In response to Lee's defence of Phil Neville (02/05/07). Lee, what Phil Neville do you watch? I thought Milly's assessment (30/04/07) was spot
on. Don't get me wrong he loves the club but that fades into insignificance when 9 times out of 10 he can't find a blue shirt. His distribution
leaves a lot to be desired for. The own goal against the champions elect summed up his season. Speaking of which, what the hell was he thinking!?? If we hadn't signed him from such a big club I doubt the 'pro neville' people would be as understanding of his lack-lustre performances.
Come on Phil - Get it together. Graham, Waterloo

Everton Youngsters

I was pleased to read how the Everton youngsters had reached the Final but at the same time very disappointed not to be made aware of the tournament beforehand. I was in Rome last weekend and had I known the Blues were in town I would have made every effort to watch some games. I visit your site virtually every day and cannot recall any notification of this upcoming event; it was the same with the Nike Cup – only discovering it on the Website after the event. Come on Everton, make us aware of these tournaments and these youngsters may actually get some extra support from travelling/worldwide Blues. Regards, Stewart C Fawcett. (05/05/07)

Europe?

With Reading's result in midweek, the strong probability is that we're going to be pushed into 8th by them and Spurs, even if we beat Pompey. If so top players who won't be prepared to come here over the summer ( even if we can afford them) and then, where are we for next season? I was slagged off by a couple of dinosaurs for wanting outside cash but I see that there are some who agree with me as well. It's no coincidence that the top 3 clubs have all got that cash. To be honest, although like most I thought we'd get the 3 from Manure at 2-0, we were outclassed most of the game. Now there's other clubs getting in there, Shitteh being the latest. If we don't join those clubs, we're just going to get left behind. Kenwright will not get that money in because he knows he'd have to go if he got it. He is the problem. As for the last 2 games, I'd like to see Neville at right back and Hibbert on the bench. Everton Geoff. (05/05/07)

Sick on Saturday

I dunno if there can be another team that is such a roller coaster ride than Everton. I was gutted on Saturday but I have to say that until the drop by Ian I was proud to be an everton supporter and was thinking just how far Moyesy has brought us. Some of the football we were playing was fantastic and was a tribute to the man. Sure we were getting pushed back but I still felt we had another goal in us. Living in the midlands, I was the only Evertonian in a pub full of Manure - (how does that work?) - and at least I had the great pleasure of watching them squirm for most of their game before they retired to happily sup there beer in the usual nonchalant and meaningless way.

Whatever people say, Moyes has done a fantastic job. He does take brave decisions, he does get the team fired and I have no doubt that he wants to build an empire at goodison (or wherever) as successful as that the Arse or Manure. I also believe he can do it. He seems to have the craft and guile for the transfer market and I look at the team now and realise he is steadily filling all the slots with quality and players who want to play for us. We will lose a few good ones to the four but we will also rake in some decent fees for replacements.

If someone had told me that we would have been beating Manu 2-0 deservedly in fourth position with 2 more games to go at the start of the season on merit I would have been chuffed to bits. So let's not get miserable, they got lucky and Ian has learned a hard but valuable lesson for the future. Loads of teams get beat by Manure so let's just get ourselves together and give the lads everything we've got to beat Pompey next up and realise where we are and what we've got. I'm really looking forward to the football we are going to play next season already. RodgerDodger. (05/05/07)

Contrasting Emotions

Well What A Week Of Contrasting Emotions. I Wake Up On Wednesday Morning To Hear Bally Has Passed Away Then Saw Us Blow A 2-0 Lead Against Manure! But More Upsetting For Me Than The Passing Of Bally, Was What I Saw After United's 3rd Goal. A Man Who Apparently Loves The Club As Much As We Do Dancing Around In Front Of The Park End Kissing The Oppositions Badge! I Have Never Felt So Betrayed In My Life, Fair Play To The Lad He Wants Trophy's Cause He's Got The Talent But To Come Back To Where He Was Raised And Act Like Such A Gobshite. I Wanted To Run On The Pitch And Kick The Fck Out The Fat Cnt. Once A Blue Always A Blue My Arse, Lets Hope This May Apply To Tiny, Mikky And Manny Though, Future Midfield. R.I.P Little Curly Alan Ball, You Will Be Deeply Missed. But I Still Think Instead Of Black Arm Bands, Our Players Should Have Worn White Boots. BRING ON POMPEY!! Wilson88 Southport. (05/05/07)

Woefully Average

After saturday's collapse at the hands of manure like tens of thousands of blues the recrimination of club, individuals and Golan mind bending tactics intoxicate your napper like a bender on tennants super strength. The simple fact is we are woefully average when we have key players out. AJ, Tiny and Howard represent a solid core that just wasn't there. You may get away it against Watford etc but even taken the mistakes on board, the signs didn't look good, with wave upon wave of attacks shredding all our nerves until the defence resembled shaun of the dead extras. Moyesy must throw away the (Kilbane is really Ronaldo tablets)and recognise Ossie and Hibbo will never play for England, Lescott is a centre half and substitutions can be made before the eightieth minute. Ray Liderth, Haydock. (02/05/07)

Alan Ball Tribute At The Game

The match on Saturday was a real disappointment in the end. I thought we were going to win it. Then once they scored one and Ronaldo came on I thought different. R.I.P. Alan Ball. The tributes at Everton were amazing on Saturday and I got Beattie’s warm up shirt thing. Thanks James! Callum. (02/05/07)

Bitter Sweet Blues

Been watching Everton since I was able to go the game. I remember my younger days Big Nev sitting on the goal post @ halftime v Leeds. I think that was at the point I realised what Everton was all about. The best team in the world at 1 point, then not even the best team in the top flight. It's hard to take for us all. But that moment will stick with me forever. I was young, we had enjoyed endless success, Titles, FA cup wins/finals, European trophy's. Then our dreams ended and so did the trophy's. Big Nev could see it all, he knew our dreams where over, his to. He was the best Goalkeeper in the world, playing for the best Club.

We had some really poor decision making, some really poor players, some poor managers, who tried hard but sadly lacked. And then came David Moyes. The best manager since Kendall without a shadow of a doubt. YES he has his faults, YES he's made mistakes and YES sometimes his tactical nouse with regard to subs lets him down. YES he's made some poor signings. But you think of how he's made us great again. The papers rave about how well we play, we as fans are surprised when we lose. We are fighting for a European place, 2 years ago we made it into the Champions League, briefly I know, but we made it and we beat the shite to it!!!!!!(Although as usual they tried to take the shine off!!!) Moyes is a legend. He's brought Tim Cahill to the club, he's brought Mikel Arteta and he's made us believe again. To hear people on phone ins, mainly on 96.7 kopite FM, saying how Moyes should go, he's took us as far as he can. Well it makes me angry. He's working with a limited budget and I think he's doing the best he can. I can't see another Person that would make me smile as much as he does. His 1st day "The peoples Club", Legend, he needs our support and he should get our praise.

Which brings me to the latest game on Saturday v Manure. Thought we would be lucky if we got a draw. Saw the teams, no Pretty boy. Thought we can have these, Stubbs scores!!!!!! £2.50 1st goalscorer @ 50/1, GET IN!!! Manny gets a peach @ the Gwladys Street. UEFA and Dreamland here we come!!! Come on Chelsea, we done you a favour, do us 1!!!! Then Ian drops a clanger, pretty boy comes on, Shrek kisses the badge, the last 30mins is all a blur, a painful 1 at that. Bolton get a point, not only we lose a grip of the UEFA, we hand the title to UTD. Painful doesn't cut it.

Go home, girlfriend has for once checked the scores. She knows I'm gonna be upset, I tell her about my win. "Surely the money makes up for the loss" She says, she has no idea..... So lets hope they can see out these last 2 games, we deserve to be in the UEFA, we as fans, them as players and Moyes as manager. The post is in view, will we sit on it or will we stand up and say THIS IS EVERTON. Fred Fiona. (02/05/07)

London Marathon

I wrote to you recently apart my participation in the London Marathon. I completed the run and have just about recovered from what was a very hot day. I would just like to thank all of the people who have sponsored me. In particular all of those fellow Evertonians who were kind enough to give so generously to such a worthy cause as the National Blind Children's Society. Anyone who still wishes to sponsor me can do so at www.justgiving.com/johndowens

I am already looking forward to doing it all again next year! Hopefully it won't be so hot. Good luck to the blues for the rest of the season - can't believe we threw the game away against the Mancs! Cheers John Owens. (02/05/07)

Phil Neville Great Captain

Can I just say that Milly's comment - (Phil Neville has been rubbish since we signed him, he's got no class and (worst of all) its a disgrace to our football club that we play him and make him captain) - is the worst assessment of a player I have ever had the misfortune to read!! The guy has played his socks off for the club, shown class in abundance and fully deserves the captaincy. More signings like him and less like our mate Per and we'll be well happy!! Lee, Wales. (02/05/07)

Steven Christopher Murray

I am trying to locate my half-brother - Steven Christopher Murray (born 1963); to let him know that our Mother (Patricia Reffell, nee Murray) has passed away and that the funeral is next week. We lost touch some time ago, hence the approach; he is an ardent Everton fan from Liverpool and the last information I have places him as a bus driver in the London area. I don’t know if you are in contact with all the official and unofficial members clubs in the UK, but if anyone knows of him, could they please pass along my contact details and ask him to call me. Regards. Brian Reffell. (02/05/07). Please contact info@bluekipper.com

Moyes - Next Game is a Must Win!!!!

Just been reading David Moyes' comments this morning, what he says is "We played West Ham and it was a must win game for them and we played Man Utd on Saturday and that was a must win game for them, so maybe next week against Portsmouth it is a must win game for us" Now I don't want to criticise Moyes too much because on the whole I believe he's applied himself well, with limited resources, but reading statements like this really does perplex me. He was taken aback by the crowds reaction after the Spurs game and to be fair I haven't seem too much of those tactics since but I've a bit of advice for you Davey mate, when you get into work in the morning have a look up at that big badge, read the motto and understand it: EVERY game is a must win game for us and always will be. We've been in the top flight for this long because the extended Everton family really do believe that nothing but the best is good enough and on Saturday we said goodbye to someone who really believed in that. One final point, can those dick heads who throw things on the pitch find somewhere else to go on match days, Willey picked something that was thrown on the pitch and you know he'll report us for it. Can't believe Evertonians can be so stupid with Europe at stake. Colin Fitz. (02/05/07)

Sad Day

CAN I JUST SAY ON A DAY OF TRIBUTE TO A TRUE BLUE AND LEGEND, WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT IT WAS TO SEE A SUPPOSEDLY ONCE BLUE, SCOUSER AND FORMER PLAYER WHOSE FATHER AGAIN SUPPOSEDLY ADORED ALAN BALL ANTAGONISE EVERTON FANS AFTER SCORING WITH HIS BOUNCING AND KISSING THE MAN UTD BADGE. IF THAT SCUMBAG ROONEY HAD ANY DECENCY WHAT HE SHOULD HAVE DONE WAS THOUGHT AHEAD BEING THE PLAYER HE IS AND BEING CAPABLE OF SCORING IN ANY GAME, TOOK HIS BLACK ARMBAND OFF AND HOLD IT ALOFT. THIS WOULD HAVE GAINED THE LAD A LOT OF RESPECT FROM ME AND A LOT OF EVERTONIANS ALL OVER THE WORLD NEVER MIND THE SUPPORTERS OF OTHER TEAMS. John Day (02/05/07)

No Brainer

Any Premiership club that has serious aspirations of being in the top flight would not have the number one choice Goalkeeper on loan from another Premiership club. It puts 6 points at risk which in this day and age can make a huge difference in league standings. Peter Fletcher. (02/05/07)

Give Moyes Credit

I like Bluekipper a lot - but you really do spoil all credibility at times by publishing mails from a Chris Simpson. (What you think - post Man U match). He is so anti Moyes to be beyond belief. His latest post is just another joke saying that David Moyes picked Turner in goal because of good reviews at a lower league club ahead of an experienced keeper, Richard Wright.

Come on Mr Simpson - if the score had been the same and Wright had played in goal you would have been saying our manager was a fool for picking a washed up keeper while we had a young lad playing out of his skin out on loan!! You know it and it's all about your hatred of Moyes no matter how well we do.

I think we have heard enough of the negative stuff from this man - if we were in Leeds position he would probably be blissfully happy deep down, I'm happy with what David Moyes has brought to us (of course things could be better but on the whole he has vastly improved things).

Again - great site people but you really do give this wobbly Evertonian a lot of air time. Regards. Ian Seddon. (02/05/07)

The Real League

Hi lads, I thought you might like to know about this thing I saw on sky sports this morning - it's a 'Real' league table with all the pens we should have had included in the table - we're already in Europe!

The Peoples club

I've been all over the place over the last couple of days - 46 years old, father of 2, and a right old mess. Anyone who owned a pair of white boots in the early 70's will feel the same. This Everton thing is something else, I'll tell you. This clubs defines things for you throughout your life - I remember more about blues matches than most other things that have happened to me.

I cry buckets when I read the RIP section; and my bottom lip wobbles when I read David French's pieces. This is not a bit of celebrity culture that we all despise, but get sucked into. This is real. This is what belonging is all about.

I remember the great goal that Duncan McKenzie scored against Leeds circa 1977; Andy Gray's sliding header in the cup in 1984; Joe Parkinson tackling Juninho so hard at a Boxing Day match that the little imp disappeared. I love you Everton - you have caused me pain, and you have let me down. You have also made me feel joyous and alive. I love you.

Let's finish this season in absolute style - let's define who wins the league. Moyesie, tell Mikky and Manny that they are the dynamic duo and they owe it to our our heritage to play like they've never played before. We are EVERTON. We are the Peoples club. We love you. Gravesy, Stoke Poges. (30/04/07)

Alan Ball

I never saw the legend that is Alan Ball play in the royal blue jersey. The only time I did see him at Goodison he was wearing Arsenal or Southampton colours. The stories and memories being recounted by Blues fans on your site tell the story of a Goodison giant. Players come and go. Some players never leave the hearts of the Everton supporters and become part of the massive family that is Everton Football Club. Some players kiss the badge. Some players don't have to. Bobby Robson summed it up perfectly in his newspaper column this morning, when he asked his readers would the players of today be remembered so fondly as players like Alan? God Bless Alan Ball. Eddieparkend. COYB. (30/04/07)

Moyesy On The Right Track

Hugely disappointing result after the fantastic and moving tribute to Alan Ball showed Everton at its very best. We played superbly until a blunder from our young and inexperienced goalie and a freak own goal from Phil. What never ceases to amaze me is that after one poor result in what is likely to our best performance in the league for donkey’s years we start to hear criticisms of Moyes who is far and away our best manager since Howard’s great spell 20 years ago. Let’s try to stay positive and resist the urge to moan that so many seem to find hard to resist. COYB and thanks for another great year and superb effort from Moyesy and the team. Cheers Mark. (30/04/07)

Tactics

For my mind there was too many players, Fernandes, Osman, Arteta who were uncertain as to their position and what they were supposed to be doing. For the majority of the first half we gave Scholes the freedom of the park and were lucky not to concede from all his prompting's. At the start of the 2nd it looked as though Fernandes had been detailed to sit on Scholes which he duly did with good effect until we gifted them their first after that our midfield appeared to disintegrate not sure whether to attack or defend and Fernandes disappeared. Moyes I thought was slow to react to the change of events, scenting a lifeline after the 1st Ferguson immediately brought on Skippy we desperately needed to change our shape which was being pulled from pillar to post but dithered until they equalised and then changed the two front men which changed nothing. To me our initial set up was wrong, why play Osman up front when there are 2 forwards sat on the bench he never looked comfortable all the time he was on the pitch although he tried hard. Why play 2 covering midfielders when we normally only play with one, Fernandes needed to be in the middle but spent most of the 1st half roaming around not sure of were he was supposed to be. Much better to have started with Ossie in his usual position wide in midfield , Faddie up front and Neville on the bench should the need arise. Would have given us a much better shape and the opportunity to play Fernandes in an influential position. For me Moyesy has done an unbelievable job but his tactical nouse around substitutions could do with some improvement hopefully he lives and learns. Nigel Peters. (30/04/07)

Referee, what referee?

The history between, Mr Wiley and Everton is well documented, for his comments some seasons ago when at Arsenal he was the fourth official, as Duncan was about to enter the fray, and his remark was " Watch him", the reason I brought that History up was in my opinion Wiley on Saturday should have had a red kit on, his display was abysmal, I am not, for one minute saying his decisions were the final reason we lost but on reflection, he was so biased its not true, a good example was the fiasco by the corner flag with minutes to go, and the time wasting, sorry for berating a referee, it's not ethical. Norman Merrill. (30/04/07)

Man Utd Game

How fitting that the Memorial match for Alan Ball should be played against one of the great teams of the last 50 years. How fitting then that Everton showed the same old faults. Neville shouts attack attack yet struggles to defend, once again he scores an own goal as he did against Liverpool. He is no central midfielder at a push play him in place of Hibbert, who can't go forward or cross and now shows he can’t defend . Turner showed that he will probably never make it at this level. 2 appearances I sending off after 11 mins one gift goal which led to a panicky defence. Why did we not play Howard? We have bought him, he’s not on loan. We must now beat Portsmouth no if’s or but’s and then with a bit of much needed luck we may get into Europe by the back door via the Inter Toto. Badge. (30/04/07)

Eleven Good Players That's It

We really let ourselves down against Man United we were in a great position in the league before the West Ham game and yet again we make it hard for ourselves. It was a terrible mistake by Turner, but we should be relying on our more experienced players like Phil Neville who has been absolutely rubbish since we've signed him from Man United, he's got no class about him whatsoever and I find it a disgrace to our football club that Moyes continues to not only play him but choose him as captain game after game. He summed it up with that appalling own goal. I thought we were unfortunate going in to the game with our lack of fit strikers and felt that we may struggle when vaughan got substituted because we would lack pace and strength upfront without Anichebe and Johnson as options. But Moyes worked his magic bringing on Beattie to continue his fantastic contribution to the team and goalscoring record for the season. We haven't got a bad team, but I continue to believe that beyond our first eleven we have lack the quality to succeed and desperately need funds to improve the squad. Personally I think we should sell Beattie and Phil Neville and bring in some energetic younger players to the team and build for the future. Milly, Wirral. (30/04/07)

Once an Actor always an Actor

It was without doubt, very disappointing, our rapid capitulation against ManUre. I, as did many others, presume that it was "nailed on" at 2-0.
So obviously, I was a bit down afterwards, more so when the later results followed. From being favourites to finish 5th, there is now a strong possibility that we may not get EUFA football at all. Then in the evening, I see Kenwright fucking about on BBC on this "Any Dream Will Do" bullshit. What's the matter with him?? The season is in danger of going tits-up and he has spent the majority of the week arsing about with his luvvie theatrical friends. Now, a business man with a bit of savvy as Chairman I can stomach, But at best, Kenwright is an ex-Corrie theatre impresario who happens to support Everton. He has as much idea of guiding the club into the 21st Century as (No disrespect intended) Liz McClarnon, Norman Wisdom or Amanda Holden, whom whilst being pleased that they are Evertonians, I use for comparison. Once an Actor.................... Bring on Terry Leahy. Best Wishes. Dylan Morgan (a very cross Evertonian). (30/04/07)

Neville's Character Not In Question

Can I just make the comment that Chris Simpson's assessment of Phil Neville not shoulding have of played because he has affection for Man Utd a total spew of bollocks from someone who can't have any idea on the character of the lad. Nev would have been totally gutted to lose and to put though his own net, totally gutted. Chris, everything else I agree with, but don't make yourself sound like a divvy half way through mate. Carl. (30/04/07) p.s. is 'shoulding' a word?

Everton are 130 years old next year.

The originals still in the premiership are: Everton, Blackburn, Villa, Bolton & maybes this is their position in the league on 27th April 2007. 3 Derby, 4 Preston, 5 West Brom, 6 Wolves. Then there is: Stoke, Burnley. And the oldest member Notts County. How about a bit of pressure in the year of culture to have a KO Competition with all original members of the football League. And Accrington Stanley Celebrating the year of culture and Everton’s 130 years. Played in Liverpool. They could be arranged as pre season friendlies. Many thanks you know it makes sense. Tony Grant. PS Alan ball rip (simply the best) (30/04/07)

Alan Ball

Would any of you have a copy of the Granada Reports programme on Alan Ball that was on from 18.00-18.30 wed 25th April 2007? I missed it :o( I turned on the TV at 18.30 expecting the prog to begin, instead there was a Party Political broadcast on instead! Grrrrrrrr. Regards. Sheila. (30/04/07) e-mail info@bluekipper.com

Evertonian In Auckland

Hi, I'm an exiled blue living in the lovely city of Auckland. Just wondering if there are any other blues in the city who would like to get in touch and chat about footy (all anybody wants to talk about over here is egg chasing….) If so, get in touch via my email, scouseefc85@hotmail.com Kind Regards. Andy McEgan. (30/04/07)

110% for Bally, Lads!

Like so many other Evertonians (young and old) I added my tribute to Alan Ball to the website earlier this week. However, I have been overwhelmed by the warmth and sentiment of everyone else’s heart-felt contributions and have had tears running down my face reading many of them. The recurring theme of it somehow marking the end of our childhood for many of us middle-aged fans is an amazingly poignant one. It also demonstrates what a real mistake it was selling him back in 1971 (the current board please note that our real heroes should never be allowed to go!). At times like this, the Blue Kipper site is especially essential in coming to terms with such situations and realising that you are far from alone in the views you hold about what it’s like to be an Evertonian for life. Thank you for being there for us. I am so proud to be in the company of such people and yourselves in following such a great club through thick and thin. There really is something special about Everton which history or current form can’t ever explain and I think it shows itself at times like this. There is a special magic about the club and it’s important that today’s players and all the staff continue to be aware of that and play their part in maintaining it. You see it with some of the players (AJ, and hopefully the likes Cahill and Arteta), but sadly we’ve seen those who don’t make an effort to buy into it (I won’t mention names…we know which ones). Whatever his supposed limitations or failings, Bill Kenwright has blue-blood running right through him as much as any of us, and it would be some comfort if the sad death of Bally emphasises to him and others that the best long-term interests of Everton must always come first with such issues as the new stadium, future investment, players etc.

I’m really looking forward to the Man Utd game! I don’t know if the players will be able to raise their game as much as we will want them to, as a fitting tribute to Bally, but I’m sure that all Everton fans will sing and chant their heart-out during the match to boost our lads and scare the living daylights out of Utd (remember the atmosphere last year!). If Moyes ever had something to help focus the player’s minds on in the pre-match dressing room, beyond our usual need to beat Utd, our UEFA Cup place, and the potential to destroy their title ambitions, then giving 110% for this match in memory of Alan Ball is the perfect rallying call. I want every one of our players to have run themselves into the ground for this one – and I’ll be watching those who don’t, as they’ll hopefully be surplus to requirement this coming summer!

Can I also say that I, and many others, support the idea of sustained applause and cheering for a minute rather than silence. I’ve see it work so well recently, and it does more to express the great memories of Bally we all have, rather than focus on the obvious grief and sadness. I would hope the family would realise and appreciate such a gesture. I don’t know if we could get everyone chanting ‘Who’s the Greatest of Them All…Little Curly Alan Ball!’ but you never know.

Come On You Blues! – Win, lose or draw this weekend – at least let’s show the world what it means to be an Evertonian both on and off the pitch – by having the passion that Alan Ball had in such abundance and hopefully sustaining it for the full 90 minutes. That’s not much to ask, is it? Paddock Boy. (24/04/07)
