New Players

People must understand why it takes time in getting right type player at the club. Remember in the pass the flops we have had. Now the ones which have been talked about alot. Nugent, Koumas, Jagielka, Roberts all linked. Out of this 4 well jk seems a good buy, great engine, we need it. Roberts straight swop with Beattie. Good idea strong, pain in the ass to defend, Jagielka good player but with 2 if not 3 in current team can't see a reason for buying him. And Nugent true blue, class player, double the price of Roberts. I feel we have 2 excellent young players and AJ where can he go? What we need is a left winger that's where we are lacking. Kieran Richardson slots in well, scum still owes us for Rooney and no more keepers. Rosseneri. (28/06/07)

Lack Of Transfer Activity

I am getting slightly concerned with the transfer activity or lack of so far this summer, although I still have full faith in Moyesy. I feel it would be great to have David Nugent as an Evertonian playing for us, he would transcend the passion on the terraces onto that pitch. He is blatantly waiting for us making the move as if he just wanted to settle for premiership football at some nothing club like Sunderland he would have done so by now, but will we pay circa £7m for him? That is less than half the price Charlton are asking for M.Bent, so a bit of a bargain.

Also Jagielka was playing golf where I work today and we said to him that we have put some cash on him playing for a certain team that wears blue next year, his answer was 'it may not be the team in blue that we are thinking of', fair enough he had his agent 5 yards away from him but it didn't sound too promising! There are plenty of teams in the same situation as us regarding not making any significant moves in the market, I just hope Moyesy can work his ginger magic before pre season starts! Jamie - Evertonian Forever! (28/06/07)

Cheer up you Blue Boys

Reading all the E-mails about our lack of activity in the transfer market was getting me down. I was also depressed when the news of Bally came through. Then I realised.... 5 years ago before Moyesy, we were in a state of constant flux of players coming and going like in a revolving door. We were also crap! Then after stopping the rot..... at the end of last season I saw the emergence of Vaughan and Anichebe. two of the best young strikers in the premiership. Believe me that these two will save us £20 million each! We don't actually need Nugent as much as an Evertonian he is. Unless we can part exchange Beattie!

As well as this, we all know Arteta would grace any team. Look at the ages of all these boys. Don't forget that Joleon was also added. And Yobo and Hibbert are not quite pensioners yet. This is developing as a young team/squad.

Then I thought....we also added AJ...already one of the best strikers! Tim Howard has also proved a great keeper. Tim Cahill is another great buy.... Yes I know Carsley and Stubbsy are reaching the end......I also know that if Arteta gets injured we are lacking a real creative player. But look at it this way......we qualified for Europe again. Moyesy is building a young team. If we can secure Fernandes on a permanent and maybe get someone to replace Carsley, maybe Papa Bouba whateverhis name is?? Then the defensive answer is to put Joleon back in the middle with Yobo. Someone else can play left back! I am sure that Uncle Bill is doing his best with Moyesy to secure some good young signings. For the first time in years I feel really good about our young developing squad. So come on you Blue Boys ...cheer up! Things are definitely on the up! Be patient. All will be revealed!!! I am expecting a flurry of activity any time soon. Then again, my missus has always said I'm mad!!!! Always have been!! Derek Pulford. (28/06/07)

Same Old Same Old

Once again we are well into the summer break and once again no 'names' to show for it. this is worrying on several fronts.does the stadium development mean that we need more money in our working account to put up as some sort of bond? Our track record is not the greatest when dealing with stadium moves!! We have also been told that due to the Euro under 21s the players we are after are non contactable!!! Bills up and down the M6 like an Italian trucker and Moysie seems to be holidaying on that island with the little dwarf in the white suit and the lanky get with the tan!!! its all very well writing 'come on kenwright, get ur finger out' but he never does! year in year out its the same old same old. cant attract players while those we want all have talks with ginger then fuck off to the barren shites (Newcastle).

Recent good will towards Moyes and kenwright is wearing thin. Clubs are being sold to over seas investors and are leaving us well behind in the process. we are never even mentioned when the Yanks come a calling and although personally i suspect this foreign ownership malarky will ultimately be seen as the carpet bagging exercise it really is, wouldn't it be nice to be considered before BK churns out the same old crap to the tune of Z cars? i am shitting myself over this season. its usually one good one bad under DM but this could really suck as we are re now having to buy simply to stand still!!

Then the time always comes when we are scratching our heads usually November/december time thinking 'cant wait for the transfer window!'..... then once again its more of the same old same old! Armstr. (28/06/07)

22 Years Too Late

Can I just point something out? Seeing the Home James letter reproduced in Cod Piece 29, Europe 1985, we did everything that was asked of us within that letter. In answer to the question 'If the match were to be replayed the following week would the ferry companies, hotels and cafes etc welcome us back?' We all know that the answer is/was 'Yes'. I know, I know the police still dispute our winning goal in the town square and argue that officially it ended 29-29 but they never mention their centre forward (blonde hair, moustache, may help to narrow it down) who was 1.6 kilometers offside when the ball was played from one of their 7 midfielders over the heads of our back 12. So, why then if the answer is a 'yes' were we banned from Europe for the next 10 years?

We all know the answer. However, if you read this http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/lfc_story/heysel/ it could be argued that choice of a crumbling stadium, a chicken wire fence, a neutral area filled with Italian supporters and "The fact that fatalities might result wouldn't have occurred to the Liverpool fans when they ran across." you receive a balanced view not just a biased Evertonian view.

When asked by the new generation of red supporters, "What do the 5 stars on the LFC badge represent?" My answer upsets them when I ask, "Is it 1 star for every 7.8 people who died in Heysel?"

Yes I admit I'm bitter. I'm bitter because we're not allowed to mention the reason for our ban. We have to respect other disasters and are allowed to reflect upon their impact on peoples' lives, talk about them, discuss, listen, etc. but we're not allowed to mention 1985. It's always somebody else's fault and water under the bridge now; let's move on.

I was there in Rotterdam. We were proud of everything in blue that moved that day. We were champions, European winners, an FA Cup final awaiting us and in our eyes we hadn't peaked. There was more to come. Then everything was taken away from us. There was nothing we could do about it but listen to UEFA's verdict and accept it.

It make me angry when 22 years later UEFA make an announcement that we all smiled at 'officially they are the worst fans in Europe.' No doubt my generation of fellow Evertonian must have thought, "About time somebody actually said it to the press." The next thing everyone's forming protest groups to defend them. Probably all lead by that great man, spokesperson for the working class people of Merseyside Michael Howard or the Liverpool Echo.

Why can't they just accept UEFA's verdict as we did 22 years ago? What did UEFA do? They retracted their statement.

Is it any wonder why I'm bitter? Gwladys. (28/06/07)

Oh My God

What is going on? We have West Ham, Sunderland, Villa, Man City, Boro, Newcastle & Spurs all talking about big money signings. Lets get busy before we end up the last day of the transfer window with panic buys. Simon Mac. (28/06/07)

Money and Bills!!

Sharon Jameson (e-mail 25/06/07 Where's the Investment Bill?) makes a confused point about EFC and the involvement of Bill Kenwright. Her first point is about how do we go forward when Aston Villa, Birmingham etc are "bigger than us". In what terms are they bigger I wonder, certainly not recent league positions, and if it is wealth then how sustainable is that for them? She then says Bill has a plan for himself, maybe, don't we all, however if his plan was all about money for himself then investment in something other than a football club would have been in his best selfish financial interests - as it is he invests in EFC, to his own personal financial detriment surely in terms of what else he could do with his time and money.

Sharon then makes her most confused point by saying "go before we are a Leeds trying to keep up..". It is precisely our boards restraint and financial management that stopped us going down the Leeds route, in the Walter Smith era and the Johnson era that could have happened easily. Instead we have worked within our financial means. Of course that can be frustrating but we have still formed a good team within our means and we can only now wait to see what David Moyes buys with our transfer funds this close season.

There are investors out there and we have had money invested in us but the large investors don't just grow on trees and if you listen to Bill he has put out feelers but if billionaires want to put their money elsewhere then what can you do?

My belief is that the caution urged by Bill Kenwright and his allies kept us out of the nightmare of a Leeds scenario, we have a fairly stable financial situation at the club and we need to continue that. I would love a large speculative investment but until then we are doing okay with what we have got and despite your belief Sharon it is not Bill who is preventing investment.

Site has been excellent even through the close season, keep it up!! Ian Seddon. (28/06/07)

What is going on at our club?

Smith, Nugent, Fernandez, Barton, Koumas, Jagielka, all appear to be out of our reach and heading to clubs that appear to have more ambition. Everton are slipping and for a club as big as ours to be mentioned in the same group as Bolton, Manchester City, West Ham, reading etc is embarrassing, but yet theses teams are out to improve buying while Moyes goes on Holiday and BK plans his next stage show. Personally I think it is now time for the two to depart and bring someone in with cash and fresh ideas. This will be another European 2 game experience and flirting with the bottom half of the table. Mit freundlichen Grüssen aus Solihull, Best Regards. Lee Cumine. (28/06/07)

Everton Picture Cards

I have a full set of these cards also they where produced by a newspaper just before the FA cup final in 1968. I think it was the Echo. md. (25/06/07)

OK. What the hell is goin on?

It's all gone very silent on the transfer front. Barton gone to Newcastle Nugent going to Sunderland whats going on? Kenwright give DM some money to spend or get someone in that has REAL MONEY. Sean Whelan. (25/06/07)

Gamble

I think we should take a gamble on Jason Koumas and David Nugent. David certainly looks a very pacy striker he'd be brilliant alongside AJ. What about the lack of transfer activity? where is all our money gone? Be a laughing stock if more cash doesn't appear, seriously need more people in.
I think a speedy midfielder is essential. Best wishes, Paul. (25/06/07)

Rock On

I’m an Evertonian and dead clever, me. And I’m up to date, dude. I can give you five types of things in a row and talk rock music and TV jive any time you want. “Big Brother” is cool with me and that’s a fact whatever the grey headed old farts say, man. It’s, like, dead right, and I get it.

Take that uber diva Claire Sweeney. Patch her in with super Iberian Mikel Arteta and you’ve got a dynamic duo made in our hectic born-again City of Culture, where Herbert the hairdresser is a kunsthaus icon and The Zutons use your sweat for inspiration in an Indy hip-hop middle class Brit Pop Post Punk Modernist mantra on the road to everywhere. You know it makes sense.

And how does that super swinger Gary Neville match up to the loquacious Gordon Ramsey on opposite wings of the untermenschen who inhabit Channel 5, geezer? Well, they don’t. Everyone knows Gary’s real co-realtors are none less than Alan Titmarsh and Fred Dibnah, those northern fame meteors who traversed the sky in the Stone Age and then left craters in Coronation Street and Harrogate. In comparison Ramsey is a comprehensive school nazi let loose on the kitschen zeitgeist. Who needs cookery except the overalls-wearing office boys that pass for TV execs?

The real magnetometer of the scene is no less than track 5 of the Snot Sniffers’ greatest album marque, “How I Had A Shit and Hid It From My Granny In Her Trackies.” Nobody of taste can forget its searing sub-mode – “Great Tits Of Venus And Garston.” This was urban angst at its most demanding, a sneering mix of primal scream, pouting Paddy, Catholic guilt and Jonathan Ross versus Graham Norton with a crouton of Mantovani thrown in. It heralds the New Wave of orchestrators mining the creativity of oppressed city interminglers and shakers. It’s a place where anything is possible on alternative roads to hades or valhalla: you don’t need the cranky advice of charlie to get you there. All you need is the talent and the lingo without a mobile phone. It’s George Bush in Florida and Ohio, Vladimir Putin in Chechneya, all over again. You might jeer at Hereford and Telford but how do you know how to do it properly until you’ve been there? The Snot Sniffers tell you how, and then some. It’s all coming down.

And it’s Everton on the up. I could give you five reasons in a row why. But it’s obvious to anyone with a tuned-in cerebellum. I can’t be arsed anyway. Contemporary Genius is temperamental and concise like that. And now if you’ll excuse me I’ve got a mirror to fawn in while I wait for the season to start. WHEN SNOT IS GREY. (25/06/07)

Transfers

The transfer season seems to be in full swing for the needy and the greedy, or shall I say the haves and have nots. Do we fall in the latter catorgory, fucking skint and paying for players on the drip or what. We have been here before the whole fan base expectant of top class players arriving at the club only to here of the journeymen pro's linked with this club for inflated prices. Koumas, Jagielka and Roberts are surely paper talk aren't they? We need not only to strengthen our squad for what might get a 60 game season but add quality to keep the current stars playing for Everton. So come on Kenwright and co use some of the 50 million its so called worth to play in the premiership to bring in top names and back the manager, staff and fans of this club now or take your operatic arse down the smoke for good. Ray. (25/06/07)

Transfer inactivity

Again and again I read all the sports columns about impending transfers to EFC without much confidence. All the usual movers are mentioned with Sunderland now in for Nugent !! We are almost dormant and I'm really afraid that last seasons good work will be followed by complacency. Many of our fans believe blindly that we have a really good team because of last seasons achievements but...many of our players are at the veteran stage and while we can have one or two in the squad to provide experience and help for the youngsters we must also have good cover and not just use Neville and Lescott as utility players. I sincerely hope that our youngsters continue to blossom and that we unearth some decent defensive and midfield players from the reserves. We need cover at both fullback positions and replacements for Carsley and Stubbs....we still need a decent wingman too who can cross the ball in open play. We rely very much on Arteta for dead ball situations but we don't create enough in open play. God help us if Arteta gets injured because no one else can provide flair. I believe Osman is not strong enough for the premier and Koumas would be a very good buy as he is a very good passer and dribbler...he could be a good replacement for Fernandez in midfield. Trev. (25/06/07)

Bad Language

I enjoy reading the articles posted on your site and most of them are well written and have a rounded argument well delivered but unfortunately even in these articles your contributors seem to think it is okay to use the F word whenever possible. It detracts from the piece they have submitted and it sounds and looks awful. I am not into censorship in any form but you could stop the use of poor language use simply by not adding them to your site, things would soon change for the better. Could you consider this or even just blank out offending words.
Regards Colin. (25/06/07)

Waiting Patiently

Is anyone else just a little bit worried about the lack of transfer activity at Goodison at the moment? I have this horrible feeling that we are going to here those immortal words that we heard prior to our last European venture. "The lads that got us into Europe deserve their chance and we are happy with the current squad" well i fucking hope not!! We have already reduced our squad since the season ended and with Fernandez unlikely to be around next season I believe we are at least 5 or 6 quality players short. Come on blues don't make the same mistake again. Newcastle, West Ham and Spurs are all splashing the cash and these are the teams we need to stay ahead of. Great site lads. Keep up the good work. Steve. Parkend. (25/06/07)

Hello!! Anybody There?

The season that was has finished, June is upon us and July is fast approaching. Activity on the transfer front has bubbled along quite nicely for other clubs that is! Everton, it seems, have decided to withdraw into their shell and alleged targets such as Nugent, Fernandes, Jagielka etc..etc.. etc appear to be disappearing over the horizon. I was led to believe that as Everton has qualified for Europe the club would become an attractive target for players, the lure of European football and all that. I've read one of the fans e-mails stating that the club is once again skint and that Moyes, Kenwright et all are trying to buy players on hp. Please God say it ain't so! If its true then the club really is run by a great sack of bollocks....just what the f'in ell is going on?

I know some of you lot will stand on your respective true blue soapboxes will shout me down. I can hear it now. 'He can't say that', 'you're talking shite', 'does he go to the matches' blah, blah, blah. My answer is get your noses out of the ginger wonders arse and actually look at what's happened once again. Last season we had a minute squad, this season it appears that instead of building a team of players to face the rigours of a prolonged (hopefully) European adventure we now have three players less!! Call me old fashioned but shouldn't the opposite be happening? If the useless Kenwright was any sort of man he would actively look for investment in this club, don't say to me its not there. It is. Can't sell though can you bumbling Bill, lose your little dreamland empire wouldn't you? Same for the jolly old directors as well eh?

Okay Johnson, Lescott and Howard arrived and are good players. Great. Arteta and emergence of Vaughan another plus point. Injuries once again come along and all that use is negated. Moyes says though, "Its okay I'll just call on other quality players in me squad to fill in. Oh shit!. I knew there was something I had to do during the summer!!" That's right Gollum get your arse into gear and actively go out and buy players for the club. Use money this time cos I find that trying to win players in arm wrestling competitions doesn't quite cut it. There better be activity on the transfer front quick. I want to see at least four players into squad covering midfield and defence. You have have to earn your corn all through the year. It doesn't stop for hollies in the sun. I don't want another season of utter shite like the one before last. If your buying Jagileka DO IT FOR CHRIST SAKE!!! If you're seriously thinking of Nugent then do something other than considering swapping bald headed footballers of the 70's cards in trade for him. GET HIM!! WAKE UP BEFORE ITS TOO LATE. Bugs. (25/06/07)

Nothing Happening

Why is there nothing going on in the transfer market? All the Evertonians I speak to are worried about this. We missed out on Joey Barton and now Manny's gone, we're going to be very light in midfield, (not to say up front). I hope they have the sense to go in for Tommy Gravesen. He could do some really useful things for a year or two. I remember how the results dipped when he left. Geoff Brunton. (25/06/07)

Silence

The silence coming from Goodison Park is deafening, once again we have a chance to push on and once again Moyes is letting it slip away.
We will soon lose Nugent to Sunderland, a lad who loves Everton, a future England star who can score with both feet as well as his head,
its insanity. His value will double in one season as has AJ's. Fernandez too is slipping away while Moyes does nothing. Just what the hell is going on? From Simon from Chester. (25/06/07)

Spend Spend Spend

I'm sick of seeing all the same shite spending & getting quality players, while we continue to look at cheap tied old buggers who all of a sudden want to play for Everton ! Put up the money who ever has the Nod, lets get some silverware, & let all these other bastards know we're here & we're here to STAY. Jim (Cambrian Blue). (25/06/07)

Everton Are Broke

I have also heard from a reliable source that the club has no money to spend on transfers this season. Everton have a low wage bill, relative to the majority of top half clubs in the Premier League. Added to this the amount of television money coming in to the club and finishing 6th in the league, I find it hard to understand why we seem to yet again be broke.

If Everton aren't able to add to their squad with at least five new players, then we won't be able to compete with Spurs, Villa, Newcastle and will be competing for mid table and against possible relegation rather than for Europe. Jon Posener. (25/06/07)

Everton Master Card Season Ticket Offer

I'm writing to you just to give a warning to you and all other blues who could be in my situation. I bought my season ticket for next season using the Everton Credit card, taking advantage of the « pay nothing until December 2007 » offer. Basically, I also use the card to buy other things as you do. The season ticket appeared on my bill for May along with all the other shopping I’d done with the card. I paid everything off my bill for May, except my season ticket.

Yesterday, I got my bill for June, and as expected they’d messed it up, as I was charged 4 quid interest for the season ticket. I rang them up and they said: "Oh don't worry that is a mistake by us, we will credit it back on your next bill." But I just wonder if it was only a mistake because I spotted it. I don't want potentially 1000s of blues paying interest on it when we bought the season ticket in good faith of this offer.

Also, to make things worse, I paid off everything on my bill except the season ticket, but they told me that they took my payment as being a payment towards the season ticket and not for all the other things. As a result, they had charged me interest for not paying for all my other shopping. Apparently, I was meant to include a note saying something along the lines of this payment is not toward my season ticket, but for all my other items purchased, something I now have to do every month. I told them I paid the bill over the counter at a HSBC, to which they said: " nar mate, you've gotta send it to us by post including this note."

To finally cut a long story short, I was told they would not charge me the 4 quid interest, credit it back to me, and as a gesture of good will not charge me for the 2nd amount of interest they had charged me. Hope this helps. Here’s to another blinding season! Andy Mc, Huyton, Lower Gwladys. (25/06/07)

Where's The Investment Bill?

WITH BILL KENWRIGHT THERE. HOW THE HELL ARE WE TO GO FOWARD. ASTON VILLA, POUTSMOUTH, WEST HAM ARE BIGGER THAN US NOW AND BLACKBURN, MAN CITY, BIRMINGHAM ALSO LOOK LIKE GOING AHEAD OF US. (25/06/07)

Everton 1966

Why don't we see more of the 1966 FA cup. That was the best final. All the sports writers never say anything about it when they talk about great finals. Never mind I was there. It will all ways be my greatest day as an Everton supporter. John. Kirkby. (25/06/07)
