Captain's Armband

Would it not be an easy and (given our finances) an affordable way to have printed on the Everton's captains arm band, the legend "Brian Labone"? Thus paying a permanent and on going tribute to our greatest ever captain? Surely this cannot infringe any rules of the FA or league. Would it not install some more passion, commitment and pride to who ever wears it? No matter if we stay or move, (I'm a great believer in improvement). Nobody can take our great history away. Lets build on our past, but also realise the need to progress; and put our club back where it belongs. We are the greatest club in britain. The fans know it, the board I believe are now beginning to realise this. We now have one of the most committed playing staff for many a year. Let's reinstall the pride that has always gone with the royal blue. One name, one armband. It's a start. Lets get us back where we belong, feared by other clubs, envied by the rest. The great club we will be again. [ by the way. West, Wright, Brown, Kendall, Labone, Harvey, Husband, Ball, Royle, Hurst, Morrisey. Ring any bells? Steve. Widnes. (08/07/07)

Transfers In?

Again we dither and make excuses while nearly every other club in the premier brings in new blood. A lot of decent players have moved...some free and others at lowish prices...we just tread water again! We must have the most dormant bunch of no marks as scouts because time and time again we are too late. We have a great chance to make some money in Europe by being successful next season and consolidate the progress we made last year...lets face it, all top teams buy when they are at the top so that they can stay there while we have yo yo seasons because we have no real investment. It is obvious to even the most died in the wool supporters that we need replacements and squad members in a lot of positions. We have very little specialist fullback cover and we are crying out for a really good wide player. We create very little in open play and I dread the thought of Arteta getting injured because I think our goals would virtually dry up. I really and truly hope that the board at EFC make me eat my words and that they give DM the money he needs to keep us competing at the top level. I'm sick of counting points until we are safe.
Frustrated blue, Trev Lynes. (08/07/07)

Wayne Routledge

I can't believe Everton and David Moyes have not made more of an effort in t'window, to make a move on young unhappy Spurs winger Wayne Routledge. A talented, fast an skillful winger. Can be used left and right. Looking for a club to take him under their wing. At a minimal fee, the England under 21 player, would be an asset to Goodison. Hope someone out there can see the prospect of this young lad, and give him a future with the Blues. Many thanks. Richard Heath. (08/07/07)

Alan Smith

I had heard this one quite some while before it appeared on your site and was hoping it wasn't true. The guy is a complete duffer and it would be nearly as bad a mistake as Beattie was. Geoff Brunton. (08/07/07)

Old Everton Scarf

I'm after the old blue/white horizontal scarf. Any ideas where I could get one. Paul Cox. (08/07/07)

Splash The Cash

I look on a daily basis for some sort of encouragement that we are serious about taking on the top teams next season but as yet am disappointed on a daily basis. I hear the premier league is awash wish money at the moment. When will we see some evidence of this in the transfer market.
Nugent seems to be a true Evertonian. the type of lad we need instead of nearly man Beattie. Come on Moyesy, splash some cash.
Phil Buckley. (08/07/07)

Is Moyes Taking Lessons From scrooge?

Moyesy should be spending his money instead of sitting pretty while the rivals around us lap it up and either spend wisely or splash the cash. I mean its obvious that Jermaine Defoe is available, but he wont make his move, and although its paid dividends getting Lescott and AJ from the Championship, but is Jagielka the type of player to take us to new heights and/or continue our progression? Hard to say when big teams have been relegated from the respected leagues in europe, Celta Vigo have been swallowed into La Leagua B, borussia monchengladbach have also been relegated and with big teams failing to make europe last term, he has no choice but to scower the market, Leon Osman will be eaten alive over in the likes of Bulgaria and Russia (hopefully not Romania!) Basically it's do or bust i feel for the progression for everton football club, and it looks like its a frozen summer in the transfer market for the blues. Sean Cuddihy - Liverpool. (08/07/07)

Arteta & Cahill

I just heard that Tim and Mikel have just signed long term contracts, the best news I have heard all summer! Hopefully this will shut up clubs like West Ham and people can stop talking about buying probably our 2 best players. Happy Days! Once a blue always a blue! Mark R. (08/07/07)

Andy Burnham

I would like to offer my congratulations to Andy Burnham on his appointment and my claim to fame is that I also ran onto the pitch off of the North Bank then got chased by a white horse with a copper on it With a big stick Great days. Sean Whelan. (08/07/07)

Transfer Market

Thanks for putting my Evertonian views on Blue Kipper. I really appreciate that. Just want to ask you. Why is David Moyes taking so much time to go on the transfer market to get us some decent signings? I hope the Manager can find some good players to strengthened the squad. Thanks again. Keep it up. Great site. Cheers. Ashick Dankan. S-N. (08/07/07)

Silly Season

I am encouraged to see that David Moyes has been signing some young players for the academy already this summer and although they are completely unknown to me it shows us that some long term planning is in place.

Like all Evertonians I am sitting on the edge of my seat waiting to see what first team players we will sign this summer. There are a couple of names who I haven’t seen us linked with this summer who may be available at the prices we can afford and who would make excellent additions to our squad.

Mathieu Flamini from Arsenal linked to us before he signed for Arsenal but has only been a bit part player for the Gunners – an excellent young midfielder with a bit of bite. Also Nakamura from Celtic – rumoured to have a get out clause of £1.5m, very good from dead ball situations, creative and with European experience and has done well for the Bhoys, a good creative back-up to Arteta. Also Luke Young from Charlton, good going forward!

Of the players linked so far, David Nugent – has potential, but as of yet is completely unproven at Premiership or international level with a goal every three games in the Championship. An Evertonian and bound to be passionate about playing for his boyhood team but it remains to be seen if he is Premiership class – worth a gamble in my opinion especially if we can offload Beattie for £3 million and shell out an additional £3m for Nugent. I think Phil Jagielka would be a good addition to the squad as he is clearly committed and versatile and is still young and yet to hit his prime. Anyway I could rattle for another page or two but I won’t. Here’s hoping for a kind draw in the Uefa and a good run.

Cheers lads still the best Everton site by a country mile. Martin. (08/07/07)

Inactivity In The Transfer Market

What is going on with the blues and the apparent lack of spending in the transfer market for the up and soon coming season. Are we again to be panic buying has been players on the final day of the window I think we could end up doing so. We seem to have been linked with numerous players, Nugent, Roberts, Koumas to name but a few and I feel sure all will go else where if we quickly do not pull our fingers out. There I have to say seems a complete lack of urgency within the club and I feel all the hard work and efforts of last season will turn to shit if things do not change soon. Reading (what a fuckin joke) West ham, Birmingham fuckin Bolton, Sunderland for fuck sake are all out there buying and improving their squads and what do the Blues do absolutely fuck all. I think it time for Bill K to return to fuckin coronation street and to give up cloud cuckoo land because he clearly is in cloud cuckoo land if he thinks we can progress in Europe without any investment in the current squad. I feel it will be 2 games 1 home & 1 away and end of europe for the Blues if current trend continues. Lets just hope and pray it doesn't. Carl. (08/07/07)

Club Stability

No one can ever doubt the passion of True Blue Evertonians, and it is apparent the apprehension felt by all as the transfer deadline looms ever nearer!

However, it is always going to be difficult to provide the right assurances for the class of players we need to attract, frustrating as we already have European football to look forward to this coming season.

So what’s the problem? Look at the interest in other clubs for serious investment or take-over's, as an entity surely Everton must be quite a prospect? A major problem is the ground issue, until this is sorted, i.e. it’s actually built wherever, then and only then can the club begin to move forward! Whatever happens, this is going to be a draw on our already meager resources and this still leaves the thorny issue of where the ground should be!

All of this must be a nightmare for David Moyes; he can’t attract the right players and others that could bolster the squad (essential for the European campaign) seem to have over-inflated price tags, David Nugent is a good example of this, he’s totally unproven at the highest level, I love Everton, but it doesn’t mean I’d knock in 20+ goals in a season! Similarly Phil Jagielka, how much better is he than the player that Everton released a couple of years ago and remember that he was part of a side that was just relegated! Also look at the disappointment of Any van der Meyde, a couple of million shelled out for a player that just didn’t cut it! David will not be looking to get his fingers burnt again, especially as he’s probably not got much cash at his disposal! I think this is a given, considering that Manuel Fernandes was not signed permanently, he looked class and seemed to have really taken to the Everton spirit! The question has been asked before regarding the money due from the Rooney sale, where is it? One has to speculate to accumulate, Everton is not looking the golden investment opportunity it should be!

I know that in business, one plays ones cards close to ones chest, but the lack of information coming out from Bill Kenwright and Keith Wyness is really disturbing and quite de-motivating! What all Evertonians need to see is the long term plan, if there is a definite and committed roadmap, then I’m sure the fans can really get behind the club in its entirety! I can deal with "top ten only" aspirations in the short term, just as long as the end-game is real success. There's an oriental saying "The better the foundations, the higher the building". So come on Bill and Keith, share the vision, make the investment happen and get Everton back challenging for The Premiership and the Champions League, that’s where we belong! Remember "Nil Satis Nisi Optimum".

To end on a positive note, I agree with the email from Derek Pulford, Everton is in possession of some really exciting young players, they will grow, especially with the forthcoming UEFA cup! There are some good experienced players around them to enhance their growth, so the prospects are very good for sure. But a warning, as they grow, so will their expectations, don't expect them to hang around! Graeme Morrison True Blue in Devon. (08/07/07)

Have Faith In Moyes

I think we should be a little more patient. If you look back at where we were pre-Moyes and even early on in his reign, we were, however little we all liked it, a selling club. The sales of players such as Speed and Dunc the Legend broke us all and left us wondering where the wins were going to come from.

This season, we’ve Europe to look forward to, young internationals throughout the side, (only Neville, Stubbs and Carsley have less than 5 years left in them) and a crop of improving players across the board. Importantly – even when, if the paper talk is to be believed we DIDN’T sell AJ and Mikky when the Egg offered us £30m – brilliant. Obviously we need to hang on to these players and buy more in order to launch challenges on all fronts next season. We also of course have people like Scott Spencer and the Lukas kiddie on their way through. I vaguely remember hearing something about a second 5 year plan submitted to the board by Moyesy, if that bear as much fruit as the last years have, I for one will be very happy.

I have faith in Moyes – we do need players but we don’t necessarily need to rush into things, I know it’s useful to have them early, as was proved by signing AJ, Roger and Timmy when we did last season but don’t rush in. We have another 6 weeks before the season starts and we don’t need another Kroldrup. You never know, Biffa, jimmy Mac, Shandy – if any of those start to produce their best form for us consistently we may need to buy even fewer players. Realistically though, on that one, I’m not holding my breath. Kit. (08/07/07)

Top Midfielders Needed

Getting frustrated at the lack of transfer activity at the club. I am sure you have had plenty of similar emails all stating the same as me, but I genuinely believe we could be close to something really big with the right signings, ie two top class midfielders alongside Tiny and Arteta. Why Moyes is considering bids for defenders and centre forwards beggars belief, we are already well covered there. when you look how far Moyes has brought us and the excellent players he has bought we are so near to being the side that will break into the top four, especially when you consider our results against Liverpool and Arsenal last season and the uncertainty taking place at those clubs at the moment. Whilst I have criticised Kenwright in the past, overall he has done a great job for our club and looking back when you consider how he has supported Moyes through poor results, particularly 03-04 and 05-06 I honestly don't think Royle would have had to leave if he had of been in charge instead of the gobshite we had, culminating in the worst five years that I had seen at our club. Come on Moyes and Kenwright, sort it out, then it will be Champions League football we will be watching rather than the UEFA Cup! Once again fantastic site, first site I look at! Keep up the great work.
Oz Blue. (08/07/07)

Jagielka Is Not Enough

A couple of weeks ago I wrote in about the deafening silence re : Everton in the transfer market. Well nothing has happened yet and I am beginning to panic. Rumours abound about this player and that player but still..........nothing ! Having read the latest batch of mails I can see I am not on my own in this respect. I really do not understand the Jagielka business at all. Perhaps somebody could enlighten me as to where he is going to fit in, and strengthen, the side. Then there is the ongoing Nugent saga. He is unproven in the Premiership and we have AJ, Victor and James Vaughan already ? We also still have James Beattie. I personally would prefer it if we signed Diop from Fulham. He looks a bit of a handful and could well do a job in the Carsley role if not a bit further forward. Anyway it must be time for a bit of action Mr. Moyes. No dithering and no more Scottish players please. An ever hopeful Blue. John. (08/07/07)

1967 FA Cup Tie

Is there a video of Everton vs liverpool of the 1967 FA cup tie when Everton won 1-0 when Alan Ball scored the winner? Thank you. Tracy. (08/07/07)

Where Are The Toffees?

I need a little bit of help. I'm getting married and I wanted to get some Novelty chocolates or even toffees for the guest as table treats. Now I wanted them to have Everton wrapping on them. I need about 300. When I got onto the megastore they said if there not on the web page they don't have them?? If anyone could get me a contact number or web page of some shop that could help. Yours. A Cork Blue. (08/07/07)

1960's

In response to your article by Scotto on the picture cards I too have such a set of cards. I've been a fervent blue since 1965, and went to Goodison whenever I could until finally getting a Gwladys Street (standing of course) season ticket for the first time in the 1969/70 season when I was 15. I remember getting the cards and seem to remember they were a set based on collecting tokens in the Liverpool Echo, which I will have read when I was doing my paper round in order to finance my trips to Goodison Hi to all the Ashton In Makerfield Blues especially Barry Cross! Keep up the good work lads, fabulous site! Alan Robinson. aka Everton Joe. (08/07/07)

Tim Howard

Everton fan, in Mexico City. Watched final of Gold Cup. Much praise to our man Timmy Howard. Pulled off a stunning save in the final minute from point blank to keep USA in the lead and go on to win the tournament. Pretended to sympathise with the gutted Mexicans, but secretly glad that a Toffee is performing so well on the world stage. Up the Blues. Rhys Williams. (08/07/07)

Gray Everton Shirt

I'm looking for an Everton jersey to buy but don't seem to see it for sale anywhere. It is grayish purple with orange areas around the arm seams....it says Chang on the front and has an everton patch... Any ideas of where I can find one..if not...do you know what year it is from? Alice. (08/07/07)
