So There

If we must move then so be it, but not Kirkby. If we're not within the city boundaries then whats the point of taking the piss out of Irish and Norwegian redshites? I may be from London, but my family are scousers an anyone with half a brain knows who the people's club in Liverpool is. Don't take that away from us. From Domingo to the Dock, kopite pricks can suck my cock. - JJF. (23/07/07)

New Stadium

I know I'm only young, but I've been going the match for as long long as I can remember and although some might think it would be naive of me, but I have only just come across the fact that everton (no matter what their argument) is not 'the people's club'. The people have made their views clear many of times and have been ignored, we wanted more players - the club decided we had enough. We wanted to play reliable systems - the club thought differently. Now we have made it clear we don't want to move to Kirkby but the club will not listen to us. They are not thinking of the great prie that evertonians hold, they simply want to get out of debt. I love my club, I love my city and I love the atmosphere that comes with combining the two, so why do I have to give up half of that? Rachael. (23/07/07)

Rabbit out of a hat

The real act of a great magician. On the day details of the fans vote is announced, Wyness gives an interview to the Post showing how the stadium will be financed. The land is free (nice gift from a council who wants us), Tesco want to give us £50million (every little helps), sale of Goodison £15million (is the land really worth that?) and the final piece in the jigsaw is 'naming rights' to the new stadium. This is obviously the most worrying aspect - is it really going to be the Tesco Bowl? Emirates or even Reebok isn't that bad - but this could really make us a laughing stock for years to come. But hey presto, we have a shiny new stadium at no cost.

We haven't placed ourselves in debt for eternity (Arsenal) nor have we have sold our sole to some foreign tosser for 30 pieces of silver (pretty much the rest of the premiership). The package is starting to look a lot more attractive. And maybe the long term, sustainable growth of our club can happen. More revenue, a couple of better quality players each year, finishing higher up the table year on year.

I will be very sad to leave Goodison, but do we really have any other options? Redevelopment of Goodison isn't financially viable, Liverpool Council don't want to help - and either of these options involves major cash outlay for the club, that we quite obviously don't have. From being one of the best grounds in the country, we have been seriously overtaken in recent years & just don't have the corporate facilities that others can offer (as much as Roy Keane was right to have a go at the prawn sandwich brigade, the 20% of seats that are executive at old trafford bring in 63% of match day revenue)

And now for the real sticking point - should we leave the city boundaries? Hands up those from Kirkby who don't think they're a scouser? Before the whole debate started, who realised Kirkby wasn't in Liverpool - honestly? Goodison wasn't in the city boundaries when it was built - Walton only became part of Liverpool in 1895. Some people will have further to travel, some people will have less, but who is really going to care if it means we have a stadium to be proud of, we are debt free, ownership is retained by a genuine fan (who I believe for all his faults really does have the best interests of the club at heart) income increases and the sustainable growth of our club happens. Neil Mulhearn. (23/07/07)

The Ballot

I am an exiled scouser living in Brighton. I was a season ticket holder when I lived in Liverpool. My kids (aged 8 and 14) are mad Evertonians and
we follow them when we can as members of the Everton South Coast Supporters club (ESSCA). I have been an Evertonian all my days. My mum and dad were passionate blues and spent their courting days at Goodison. My grandad, great grandad and great great grandad lived in Everton and followed them from Anfield to Goodison. Blue blood courses through my veins. But the eligibility rule means I cannot participate in the decision making at this pivitol moment in our history. It leaves me and my family disenfranchised. It feels dirty and inequitable. Another sickening action by the administration that confirms that the club is increasingly alienating its loyal fan base. Are we engaging in the slow, agonising, final death of the 'The Peoples Club? Is this what it feels like to be an Evertonian?

Ground Move

Most of my best days have been spent at Goodison, I had my wedding reception there for gods sake, so you know where I stand already on this issue - although I would say that I have nothing against Kirkby at all (in fact I really appreciate the fact they are interested). It is clear that there is only one reason we want to move, MONEY. One argument against staying is the fact we are currently land locked - has anyone seen the new plans ? On closer inspection, we would not be able to expand past the 55,000 that is planned, the plans prove the new stadium is land locked too. No long term plan there then ! Manure have expanded their ground by about 20,000 in ten years. If we had ten years of sustained achievement (I can dream) The Tesco Stadium would not be able to grow with us.

FACT - We OWN goodison park, FACT this can be expanded maybe gradually I accept, but we haven't been evolving overnight since our last title in 1987/88 have we, FACT all clubs who have moved into a new stadium have struggled (even Arsenal currently).

If we redevelop over a timeline, it won't be as aesthetically pleasing as a brand spanking new stadium (personally I don't particularly like new stadiums), but it will be ours, just like Goodison is ours now. We take stick on how shite it is now but we all still get the goosebumps when we're there (would you rather be anywhere else on matchdays). Not just for the history of it (Bayern Munich, the 4-4 derby etc), but for what it represents in the now (the atmosphere against the shite and manure this year), you could say between the history and the now the common denominator is Goodison, because there were different people in the stands different stands for christ's sake. Lets do the Park End for now, include your prawn sandwiches if you like, let the council come to terms with the fact that actually there IS a reason to keep us in the city.

The new plans only offer us a stadium (no hotel as was in the Kings Dock Plan, etc) Goodison is a short journey out of town for people to go on tours, meals - who is going to travel 7 miles for a stadium tour or a meal etc on a non game day?.

Having said this, I support Everton Football Club wherever they'll be ten years from now Champions League, Premier League, League 1, Goodison, Kirkby, Speke, Widnes wherever. I personally don't want to see an open top bus tour of KIRKBY next time we lift the cup. Stephen Kelly

No Option

Like the many 1000's of evertonians who have graced goodison park I to would like to see the stadium redeveloped. But we need to look at the bigger picture. At the moment we are in the shadows of the red shite from over the park on the transfer funds etc. We just can not compete with the bigger clubs and the way it is going we never will. My point is that we need to move from Goodison Park. The shite are building a 60000 seater stadium with an extra 20000 seats for further development. How much of a shadow will we be under is we stayed at Goodison. The way the club is being run at the moment is not taking into consideration at the way we are becoming a laughing stock. We have a chairman who is a Blue, but would not sell because of his love for the club (you don't give things up if you love it). We have a manager who has done miracles to get us where we are, but when he comes out with comments like the transfer market has gone out of control make me think, what's going on. Is he the only manager not to know that all premiership clubs are guaranteed 50 million for the next 3 seasons. This is why middle table and lower table clubs are spending their millions in the transfer market.. We do need a new stadium, a new owner keep the manager and fingers crossed then we might be able to compete for some sort of silverware. Ango. (23/07/07)

Goodison

I started going to Goodison in the late 70s, and went to nearly all home games and a fair amount of aways till I moved to the east Midlands and later to London, where I joined the ranks (thousands strong) of the Merseysiders in London going to loads of games in the south. These days I live in West Wales, getting to a game only occasionally.

Concerning the proposed ground move, consider this... Goodison Park is one of the few grounds left with real architectural merit( in the same as Fratton Park, Roker & Spurs). It holds around 40,000. So does White Hart Lane- are the Spurs fans demanding a new ground? Would Everton fill a bigger stadium? Am i the only one who remembers 9000, for a league cup game and 16,000 for a saturday in the late 70s. Seeing the Emirates with all the twats in their hospitality suites is not the way I want to see everton go. Nor do i want to see some soulless shed like Bolton or Coventry. Arsenal lost ground on the others in the transfer market, spending all that dosh on a new ground- will it ever proove to be as successful as highbury? What will the Reebok look like in 20 years time? Will it last that long? It isn't long ago that clubs received masses of money towards becoming all-seaters. The stadia in the premiership are on the whole better than most in Europe. Let Everton redevelop Goodison bit- by- bit, as they always have. Live within our means, and spend our money on improving the team, so that we can do the important thing-WIN A TROPHY again. Eddie Dunn. (23/07/07)

Conspiracy?...Or just more shite...it's your call!

Just thought I'd add my two-pennyworth to the ground debate, especially as the illustrious gate keepers to our beloved club have finally announced the ballot! My theory is that, as most blues believe, this already a done deal and that we'll be heading off down the M57. I also believe that Blue Bill and Bully Wyness are fully expecting a majority vote against the proposed move to happen. Expecting this, Blue Bill will then resign from the board as to not loose face (...and to answer further questions like where's all the TV millions gone and why hasn't Davie had any of it!) in order to make way for new owners to steam roller in, with their new vision for the future, including...and you've guessed it!...the building of a reworked stadium in Kirby with or mates Tesco...well every little 'elps! For me, well after a long hard deliberation, it's lets stay at Goodison and redevelop her! Two fingers, to the council and of course, all those horrible red shithouses across the park! Nice one! keep up the good work Kipper! Wazytheblue. (23/07/07)

Please Say No

Everyone is talking like we have no alternative but to move to Kirkby or that it is an either/or situation between developing Goodison and moving to Kirkby. Personally I would love to see the old stadium redeveloped but don't know enough about the obvious problems to know if they are insurmountable, so am prepared to accept the argument that maybe that is not viable.

However, to move out of the city and leave it to the Reds is absolutely unthinkable. How can any blue blooded person possibly consider the idea. We have been told by people in the council that there are potential sites within the city borders and if people vote 'no' to kirby, they will be forced to consider them.

And can anyone tell me why a move to Kirkby seems to be a pre-requisite for the financial support from Tesco? Surely there must be other sites within the city that could prove to be a good financial prospect for them. Not that I'm desperate to remain linked with Tesco but if they are the only willing investors, couldn't we entice them somewhere else more mutually acceptable.

Whatever, I urge you, please don't take our club out of the city. It would be an irreversible mistake. Julie

Keep The City Blue

I know am only 17 and i haven't seen Goodison or Everton in their glory days (hopefully returning soon) but i cant see why any blue would want us to move. I have read alot of the e-mails that have been sent in on this subjectand most of them seem to want to keep Everton in Liverpool. But also there is a large number of people saying we should move and alot these people are only reacting to what the council have acted like. Forget the council were the heart and soul of this city, not them or those Norwegian bastards that come for the weekend. Pricks! Why cant we re-generate Goodison? do what the mancs did and look at their ground now. If that is not possible, there are loads of other places to build in the city not in the middle of bloody nowhere! If we move were surrendering the right to call ourself the peoples club, we are surrendering the city to those wankers across the park. How can we when we win a trophy parade it around Liverpool if we move? Keep OUR club in Liverpool. Keep OUR city blue. Great site lads love it keep up the good work. COYB. Tiffa. (23/07/07)

Move

I cant understand what all the moanings about, Kirkby's 4 miles away from goodison for fucks sake. every single person in kirkby is a scouser. kirkby is in liverpool, who cares if its not under the city boundaries. I bet you'd never get a kopshite sayin there beloved stevie g larr's not a scouser, he's from huyton, also under knowsley council! its about time we all pack in crying an think about whats best for Everton. forget about all those who are jumping on the band wagon an making out Kirkby's the other side of the world. Who's to say in the next few years the boundaries aren't gonna change again! Liam. (23/07/07)

Ground Move

The majority of us don't want the move to kirkby, but the way things are going that will be our new home and the fans will not take kindly to this. Knowsley council at least are giving time to find somewhere to move us to and actually name where we will be placed. Unlike Liverpool City Councils saying they have suggested places that we could move to and not telling us where. The club itself look all set for the move to kirkby.

I'm only 16 but I'm a season ticket holder in the top balcony, and Goodison Park is not just our home but a very spiritual place watching the greatest team on Merseyside play football. I have to admit Goodison park it getting on and the possibility of redeveloping looks slim but that what the fans want redevelopment and as we are the peoples club I believe we should have the biggest say in the whole matter of deciding if Everton should move or not.

Liverpool City council clearly haven't been bothered about Everton, they could of found more spaces to move Goodison elsewhere inside the City boundaries. I have found 5 suitable areas where our new ground could go such as the most obvious, Walton Hall Park or Newsham Park (Not really but possible site), lower lane-stoneybridge lane (a park in between these lane), a public open space opposite Rupert Lane Recreation Ground, or Trafalgar Dock where the summer pops that the only problem oh but wait why don't we just hold the summer pops.

See I'm only 16 and I can find suitable place where Everton can move to but Liverpool City Council can only find two, of course they have more knowledge about the city than me and the areas I have selected but they aren't even bothered if we crash and burn but they will come out and say that they are bothered. Below here is a picture of Walton Hall Park. Chris from Huyton.

Keep Everton In Our City

Why? Why take a perfectly good team out of THEIR city? I'm not saying that we can't move. I'm just stating the opinion of most if not all Everton fans when I say 'We need to stay in Liverpool.' It's not right for a city team, especially one that is in Europe to move away from a city which has been their home since the 19th century. Keep Everton In Our City (KEIOC) Joe Verdin (21/07/07)

First In The City

We will not go to Kirkby. Everton were the first team in liverpool, don't be first team to leave liverpool. LIVERPOOL, NOT KIRKBY, Anon (21/07/07)

Goodison Forever

Stay at Goodison we are the club not these come day directors, it is our club and our heritage, it is sacrilege to leave Goodison and the city boundary. Listen to what Dave Kelly is telling you, redevelop Goodison who cares what it costs kenwright and co Have had enough of our money. It is ok saying it does not matter what Liverpool supporters say, but any true blue will tell you that it does matter. They would love to see us move out of our city and we would get it rammed down our throats day after day. True a stadium for nothing would be great and 10 million every year to spend on players sounds fine, but at what cost would it be to Everton supporter. VOTE NO to Kirkby vote yes to stay in our city. Ron Proffitt (21/07/07)

Why Not Kirkby

Why not Kirkby? Do our fans really believe that this would not put bums on seats?

Info on Kirkby

Proposed site - Kirkby Station - 18 mins on train from city centre - 30 min drive from city centre. Pubs a plenty buses available every 5 mins to city centre.

Kirkby HAS A LIVERPOOL POST CODE L32 & L33 (current abode is L4)

Goodison Park does have a lot of history but I do believe this is the way forward. After seeing the proposed plans its more exciting to see the club making positive moves after the team getting behind us and getting us into europe. We dont have a lot of cash to splash about and with the proposed deal with tesco its very feasable for the club to move forward with this and not run up a huge debt.

Think about it - revenue = cash to spend = more players = winning trophies

I read before that if the stadium was in Kirkby fans would not travel to it. Why?

Surely a true fan would travel to the ends of the earth to watch their beloved team and I think our fans have done that in the past.

So all in all I do see what the fans want but is it the right choice? As a club we have to move with the times and that means a bigger ground if we are to stay in the top flight in the premiership (and bring back the glory days that the fans so much deserve)! Paula Lockyer (21/07/07)

No Thanks

Become a small town club in a stadium designed for a small town club. No thanks. J Morgan (21/07/07)

Great Move

This would be a great move for EVERTON lets move forward and stop nit picking about moving 3 miles down the road. Logisticly we would in shouting distance of the motorways M57 M58 M62 etc. Parking no problem plenty of room, better than parking in side streets and walking 2miles in the rain. Goodison park has been great and has many great memories, but time marches on so lets say goodbye and move on. Maybe we can stop penny pinching and attract investors into the club and come out of liverpools shadow. Wynne Jones (21/07/07)

Stay Put

Almost every single Evertonian lives in Liverpool, because Everton play in Liverpool, and we were the first team formed in the city. Kirkby isn't in the city, so there will be less supporters travelling to games, so what's the point in building a stadium with more seats than Goodison Park, (which is of course in the city of Liverpool) when there will less fans at the ground than at Goodison? It will end up looking like Manchester City's stadium, with thousands of empty seats every Saturday.

Another reason for staying at Goodison is that all of those "There are two teams in Liverpool: Liverpool and Liverpool reserves" jokes will be true! Toffee Mad (20/07/07)

Who Are They

As I believe it the Keep Everton In Our City Campaign asked for the restrictions on who voted in the ballot that means jack shit, because the deal is done anyway. My question is who the hell appointed these people to tell Everton who can and cannot vote in this arse of a a ballot in the first place. I did not vote for you. By the way I want to stay in the city boundaries, but until Everton get some money it will never happen. Get real some people and come into the financial reality of Great Britain today. Kennyblue (20/02/07)

Evolution Not Devolution

“Deal of the century”, that’s rich coming from a board who have traditionally had a reputation for being financially inept. It’s got to be a ‘No’ to Kirkby:- our board have not made the best decisions in the past so to trust them with something as fundamental as this would be suicide for the club and for the area. Everton should not move.

Our football clubs have always had a symbiotic relationship with their local communities, they become entities due to the local support in the early formative years and then grow from there … the heathens have now abandoned that traditional support and opted for the “who pays wins” approach. Question is, ‘do we want this as well’?

I really do not want to sound ‘Royston Vasey’, but it’s within the locale that Everton's tradition and identity come from, you can’t quantify or put a value on it, you can’t put dimensions on it and you certainly cannot identify and market it. It is this intangible ‘something’ that sets us aside from the heathens and the rest of the dross in the premiership, it always has and this is who we are. The club is a reflection of the people of the area and the club moulds the local community and the local community moulds the club. All we need is investment and no strings ……

Everton should also have the courtesy to ballot the local businesses and residents. After all, it has been we who have bore the both the good and bad of Everton football club over the years, it is also to us that they owe a say in redevelopment or relocation and not to some season ticket holder in living miles away in the stockbroker belt. Both local businesses and residents will be affected. Once again our community, which has been recently highlighted as the poorest nationally will suffer the most. Moving a major employer out does not sound like a positive step for a depressed area. There are many business who are dependant on match days just to keep them afloat;- so to those ‘supporters’ wanting a move, do us a favour, go and support the heathens across the park if all you desire is a shiny stadium and the associated, sanitized, corporate beer n burger garbage ….. If we do move, I’ve no doubt that nobody except Tesco will have rights to sell anything at any future stadia …. Its either that or Tesco will levy extortionate charges on those vendors wishing to sell at match days.

I hear some idiots saying “well this is the way it is today”, does that very lame argument mean that we now going to ‘accept’ that this is the face of football … we are not spineless cockneys or thick geordies. Do we accept that being pushed around by a minority of men in suits and their associated corporate entities is now the norm, do we meekly acknowledge that any deed done in the name of finance is justified? Or can we raise our voices in protest in true scouse style and force our board to back down from the brink and listen to common sense.

A quick message to all those blues who won’t be getting a vote … apathy is not an option. I’d suggest that barricading ‘fat boy’ Wyness in his car at the next home game might send him a serious message. On a more positive note, Wyness should be sacked and we should disassociate ourselves from Leahy and this poison chalice.

Lastly, has anyone noticed a trend? It’s mostly these ‘supporters’ who don’t live in Merseyside or it’s the ex-pat brigade who are writing in and telling us all here what is good for us and that we should move … personally, I don’t care how long you’ve supported the club or what your effin claimed loyalty is:- the heathens are already having a laff at our expense and I wouldn’t expect anyone who doesn’t live here 24/7 to understand it … so please shut the funk up, it doesn’t affect you. There are two teams in this city always will be and NEVER forget it.

We want evolution not devolution. Kev Purdy (20/07/07)

Not Kirkby

Most definitely NOT Kirkby. I am absolutely certain that the club are grossly underestimating how many season ticket holders will cease to be so if we move to Kirkby. I honestly believe it will be the beginning of the end of Everton Football Club as we know and love it. Paula McGlynn (20/07/07)

Lengthy Letter

Not Kirkby, there's plenty of other options within the city boundary. EFCBLUEPJS (20/07/07)

Talking Shite

Wyness says if we stay at Goodison attendances will go down? Who is he kidding? If you move us further away from our fanbase and lose our links as Liverpool’s major Club, THAT will cause attendances to dwindle, not redeveloping Goodison. If we move, our fanbase will shrink by a third in ONE generation. Resign now, Wyness and get back to Aberdeen. They were more your level. Clown! Eddie Nimmo (20/07/07)

What Does Bully Know

'If we have to carry on at Goodison, there will be serious issues. Attendance numbers will go down' Wyness, quoted on Blue Kipper news column, 17/0707. Erm, what's to say that attendance will go down?

Last time I checked, I went to Goodison to watch a game of footy between the Mighty Blues and A N Other, not to cash in my clubcard points for a cheapo George Foreman. I agreed with him up till that divvi remark n all Chris SJ, Jerk-in-bed (20/07/07)
