Competition For Places

When we talk about competition for places (signing the Yak et al) please correct me if I’m wrong but, has Moyesy ever bought a right back to compete with Tony Hibbert (discounting Neville and the other ‘utility’ men of course)? As the afore mentioned Hibbert was a midfielder in his youth and subsequently found solace in the right back position, presumably due to the fact he cannot deliver a meaningful pass to his own team if his backside was on fire, would we as a club not be wise to find him a place on the bench or even the stand and bring in a right back? Just wondering, Spirit of the Blues. (05/09/07)

New Players and completeing the Jigsaw!

If Fernandes and his agent have plotted their escape to another club, having given the Everton board assurances, then there is nothing the Everton board can do! Yes! it is disgraceful behaviour by the player and his representative..............but that's all gone now! If things don't work out for Fernandes at Valencia, or he doesn't progress into the player everyone thinks that he will be, and he rues the day he shafted Everton.....that's tough......he won't be coming back here! With regard to other transfer targets, we could do with a couple of players in! However, it may prudent to keep hold of the money and see what pans out in January 2008. We have enough bodies for the field of play, but some are young and inexperienced...........but what the heck.......give them a try. I would rather give a hard working young player a go, than chase players who 'betray' and 'back stab' the board, with their high flying demands! It would be great to have great so called 'star' players at our club.......and we do have some......but they are not Martyrs........and we don't want Martyrs! Good riddance Fernandes....if it doesn't work out......tough sh-t!

I believe the Board and the Manager are trying their utmost to give the fans a team that they deserve.....and we are two thirds of the way there. It may take time to complete the 'Jigsaw'..........but I have every faith that the 'Jigsaw' will be complete with a new ground in the near future! Mal (True-blue).........but not holdings! Only Evertonians can make a woman feel like a woman

On a recent transatlantic flight, a plane passes through a severe storm. The turbulence is awful, and things go from bad to worse when one wing is struck by lightning. One woman in particular loses it. Screaming, she stands up in the front of the plane. "I'm too young to die," she wails.

Then she yells, "Well, if I'm going to die, I want my last minutes on earth to be memorable! Is there ANYONE on this plane who can make me feel like a WOMAN?"

For a moment there is silence. Everyone has forgotten their own peril. They all stare, riveted, at the desperate woman in the front of the plane.

Then an Evertonian stands up in the rear of the plane. He is gorgeous, tall, well built, with dark brown hair and blue eyes. He starts to walk slowly up the aisle, unbuttoning his shirt ...

one button at a time.

.....No one moves.

.....He removes his shirt.

.....Muscles ripple across his chest.

.....She feels warmer, starts to breathe faster

.....She gasps...

.....He whispers....

"Iron this, and get me something to eat....and be quite while the football’s on"

Regards. Gerard Harrison. (05/09/07)

Everton v Valencia

Well just watched the draw for the Champions league and a couple of things crossed my mind....One was Maddys lack of respect regarding his transfer, he actually signed for us with the hand shake, trained with the players all week, watched them in the stands against Blackburn..and then got on a plane and went and signed for Valencia... Well the draw came out like this....Chelsea, Rosenbørg, and Valencia....Now we all know about Chelsea, Valencia, but Rosenbørg have been in the Champions league 9 out of 11 years....Mainly because they have won the Norwegian league on or about the same amount of years.. So with that, a thought just crossed my mind..what are the odds on Valencia getting knocked out? and then meeting Everton in the Uefa Cup? Wow! Would`nt that be some game...

Well I would also like to comment on Tommy coming back, First of all Welcome back as we really do need someone who can stay injury free for a while, or at least until Tim gets back... The maddy thing left us with very little alternative but to do something drastic...either panic buy or do what Moyesy has done now..loan a player...WELL DONE DM, a spot of genius on your part...I know Tommy scored a Hatrick recently, but before that he was playing in the reserves and with the kids before that...so my only concern is, has Tommy still got what it takes to play in the Premier league at the top level? Only time will tell..God help Bolton if Tommy and the Yak play well this weekend....I just hope AJ gets to stick the ball in the net as well...I know he helps a lot but I still like to see him score... PS. Whats the score with the number 9 shirt..nobody wants it, Maybe Vaughany will take it when he gets back... Call Y'self an Evertonian? R. Styles (City of Everton)

Fernandes

I just wanted to outline some of the main points on the manny transfer to valencia. He is owned by a third party and there is a rule in the premier league saying that you cannot field a player owned by a third party, yes we all now that. If anyone should be blamed its the Premier league they had to overlook the transfer with great scrutiny and make sure its legit as they did not want another carlos tevez/ marscherano affair, this is why it took so long. Its not Everton's fault that in that period another team came in and bid, also i like to point out how no-one is questioning Fernandez part in this after apparently agreeing to Moyes he flies over on a plane and signs 48 hours later if he had the right attitude and desire he would have waited. Honestly I'm glad he didn't sign !!! Also the work permit situation it happens to a lot of players, nani and anderson of united and arsenal new boy da silva the fact is it happens the club weren't trying to mess us around as some of you are thinking its time to get behind them and give them our support for the new season !!! Breandan Clarke. (29/08/07)

Who Do You Trust?

Monday, so its true then?..Manny Fernandes chooses Valencia over Everton..and all this after promising faithfully, cross my heart and hope to die, that he would join the blues within 24 hours.....what a complete shit he is!...good player yes but as trustworthy as a rabid dog!! Its amazing what the power of money can do to ones scrupples isn't it? It would've been nice to see him back in blue shirt but that said I have to hold Everton and in particular the Everton board complicit in this abomination of transfer sagas.

I've said in an earlier mail that I could not understand how we could go from a position of not being able to pay beans for any tom, dick or harry to a place where suddenly Moyes has got nearly 20 million quid to spend...it sounded just too strange for words. I little bird tells me that Moyes threatened to walk out on the club if more funds were not forthcoming..not suprising after seeing target after target bugger off to lesser clubs...obviously the message hit home and Blue Billious and Fat boy shat their respective pants!!
Its a case of too little to late....in this respect Moyes has my sympathy..I know he's not my favourite chappie at the best of times but it puts it all into perspective when you see what backing he gets from those stingy bastards who call themselves the 'Board', should be called 'The Bollocks'.

So what now?..Yak should be with us by Wednesday, thats will be the 29th so that leaves just a few days for Davey boy to find that creative midfielder to help out Arteta....christ I hope he gets someone as the Blackburn match showed us all that the squad is creaking at the moment..just get an injury to Mikel and thats the season...poof!! Come on Moysey! there must be a midfielder you can get, one who will give good service to the club and push us forward.....just do it... As for Kenwright and the rest..kiss my arse!! Bugs. What The Hell's Going On?

I had not bothered to pester you lately as I had anticipated the signings of Fernandes and Yakubu. With these two in tow we would have been able to give anybody a run for their money. But now.........? Fernandes has apparently gone back to sign for Valencia and Yakubu would appear to have problems with his work permit. I now begin to wonder if we, the Everton fans, have been fed a load of bulls**t. Just how incompetent can we get ? We were aware of the problems with Fernandes third party ownership so we carefully wait until two, possibly three, weeks before the end of the transfer window and then decide to make an offer. Bloody perfect !

I will not be in the least surprised if the Yakubu deal now falters. The cynic in me is now beginning to believe that this may have been the work of our illustrious board in a somewhat cynical attempt to ensure the stadium deal went through. Surely not ? The proposed signings will have appeased a few of the doubters and now we are not signing at least one of the players involved I wonder how they feel ? We now find ourselves in the enviable position of having a loan signing, a free keeper and Phil Jagielka. Oops sorry forgot Luke whatsisname. And just to add insult to injury the transfer window will now close in 4 days time and we have bought sod all again. Rumour has it that Moyes was not over happy at the return of Fernandes. How can you not be happy at the return of one of the, allegedly, best young players in Europe ! The mind boggles. Mind you I suspect that they probably offered him thirty bob a week, £1.50, and all the Chang he can drink.

I can only hope that the club may make some sort of statement about this but I suspect that all we will get is silence. And loads of it !! Nothing from Kenwright, nothing from Wyness and nothing from Moyes. A very far from happy Blue. John.

Novel Evertonian

I know you sometimes put requests like this on the site, and I’d appreciate it if you would do the same for me. You know I’m a big Evertonian, because I’m the guy who won the signed T shirt in aid of muscular dystrophy last year. A literary agent has just put the first three chapters of my first novel on their website. The idea is that publishers are encouraged to use the site as a “Shop front” to find new, unpublished authors and casual visitors can read and rate the offerings available. The better the voting results, the more inclined the agency is to proactively market a novel. I would be really, really grateful if Evertonians would take a minute to vote by visiting http://mcarthurbaker.co.uk/syder.aspx and scrolling down to the bottom of the page. It’s as quick as that – don’t bother reading the chapters unless you really are at a lose end! By the way – the main character’s name is Gregory Sagar Dean Mercer Lawton Goodison Parker! Many thanks, Steve Syder. (29/08/07)

Everton

At the close of the 06/07 season, although extremely happy, i was also sad and resigned to be losing one of the games hottest talents (Manny) as he returned to his club. Had this remained the case, I would have been content as £12m at the time seemed a lot of money for Everton to fork out. Having seen the figures being thrown about since i think 12m would actually be a bargain for this guy. But thanks to recent events, i would like to voice my disgust at Everton's useless behind the scenes officials who have lost the bloody plot. And i'm sure they will turn around and say the league blocked the move....so why didn't we buy the other 50%? I'm sure Valencia wouldn't have paid 15m euros for 50% of a player? I cannot believe the fools did not do everything in their power to sign one of, if not THE MOST TALENTED up and coming youngster in the game. What makes me sick is that we nearly allowed this young lad to join our debacle.

What business in the right mind allows 35,000 (including myself) to vote on a massive event in the history of the club. So what if we voted no...we would have wasted the last 12 months plans and negotiations and be back to square one.... I voted for kirkby and am glad i am with the majority but I cant believe that the club almost jeapordised this opportunity by putting it up for vote...I personally thing that the man in charge here needs a slap, who cares what we say, do whats right for the club! If it is economically viable and we own the stadium for 999 then WHY? not grasp it with both hands? There seems to be a recurring theme here, that Everton pussyfoot about too much with decisions, from what I can see a lot more decisiveness is needed.

Also i would like to add, us 35,000 numbskulls i previously mentioned know how to pay a tribute, in the lower gwladys on saturday, excellent reception for Rhys Jones. RIP. From an increasingly irritated, yet supportive blue. Danny. (29/08/07)

Fernandes To Valencia

Hi lads. I just thought I'd leave you a message about Moyes' transfer policy. I've just read about Manuel Fernandes on the verge of joining Valencia and I am appauled on how Moyes has lost out on signing him. He should have been signed for us weeks ago, but once again Moyes takes his time and another club comes in for him just like what happened with Sissoko when we left it too late and Liverpool signed him. By what I've seen Fernandes is world class and only 21 and could have been a steal and add some class we lack in the middle of the park, but it looks like disappointment again. Never mind Moyes obviously believes his great central midfield duo of Carsley and Phil Neville will get us into the Champions League, but I'm not so sure. We need to buy these type of top quality players to move on and also keep or best players like Arteta happy otherwise we are never going to get anywhere. A very disappointed Evertonian :( Ant, Wirral. (29/08/07)

Fernandes

The club have done us again. Got our hopes up about signing him. How suspicious when we have had no money all summer then just before the vote nearly £20m appears. Whats the odds on the Yak deal falling though? Regards. Si. (29/08/07)

Oh Dear - A Bit of Gamble, David!

Although I've been previously under whelmed by our transfer activity this summer (although getting Arteta and Cahill on board was solid business), I did at least feel that our money wasn't being wasted unduly by the board. I took it that Moyes & Co saw something negative in Nugent, Smith, Richardson etc. to make an investment of a few million not a good idea (I'd say with their current form this might be quite shrewd). I think getting anything for Beattie was a bonus, and it we can just get rid of Van der Meyde, I'll be more than happy. I'll also assume that the Fernandes deal is still on, as I think that is good business too (although it's all gone quiet in recent days?). However, I was worried a few weeks ago that we weren't quite up for it up front once Vaughan got injured. Don't get me wrong - I like AJ's work ethic, but am I the only one who thinks he's actually been living on his derby game brace of goals a bit too long and needs to up the strike-rate quite considerably? I really think he needs a striking partner of some stature and skill to take the workload off him (especially with Tim out for the next few weeks).

But I have to say that I am very, very worried about our possible record-breaking purchase of Yakubu from the Boro. After overlooking several decent and cheaper options earlier on, it all smacks of panic and I am still not convinced the Yak is worth the money and has the Everton work ethic within him. I honestly hope I'm wrong, and I'll stand up and admit it at the end of the season if I am - but I think we have massively over-spent on a good, but inconsistent striker, whose behaviour at Boro in recent weeks suggests a player who thinks more of himself than his team-mates. Living in the Teesside area, I've seen how much he drifts in and out of games and how cumbersome he can be at times. There's also that whiff of 'Jimmy Floyd Hasselbank' about him (i.e. if the ball's not to his feet, he's not interested!). Doesn't strike me as being an 'Everton' type of player really.

I really hope he and AJ create a superb strike force this season and that he learns about the 'Everton' way of life, but I really fear the Yak could end up being Moyes's greatest folly (and make Beattie look like good business). Please, please, prove me wrong! But, if he doesn't - you heard it first here! COYBs. Paddock Boy (suddenly in 'the glass is half empty' mode!). (25/08/07)

What’s happening?

We are told by the main man himself, Mr Moyes, that the deal for Manny is nearly complete, then sudden silence, no media reports let alone anything from Goodison. Once again all quiet on the Yak front, whispers the deal is off, they will not take it in 50p installments I guess. I realise that these deals are sometimes long and protracted these days, but are we always to be kept in the dark? Dave (A disillusioned, but always a blue, its my religion) Ford. (25/08/07)

Too Little Too Late

Great news that we have captured a good youthful talent in Leighton Baines for the going rate. Like most Evertonians that signing will have relieved a bit of the pressure we have all felt in the last couple of months. But if we take Davy Moyes literally, if he really has had the money to spend and held off signing players because as he says over inflated fees, what does the Davy Moyes fan club think now? Everybody who reads and inputs into this site has their own opinions, and the diversity is awesome, but I do wonder about the people who constantly make excuses for Moyes and jump to his defence an say get off his back, let him manage the club ,he won't buy shite cause he's been bit before. Well what's he fucking doing now throwing money at players like a lottery winner with 24 hours to live. Who says he's the best available, who says he's the best manager since kendall? Bollocks! He's the most indecisive fucker on the planet. Show me any cup run, show me consistency we've bin up and down like Cynthia Paine's sunday best. Come on he's shitting bricks now and suddenly there's wads of cash to spend. Do you really want yak and manny at 20million. Just have a look at what the big four have brought in, why have we not recruited that quality with 20 mil to spend. Because bungle and zippy would not buy a ticket in the raffle, like the title says too little too late. Raymond Liderth. (25/08/07)

BLUES GIRDLE THE GLOBE: BALLS OUT TO MONGOLIA WITH THE RUSIAN TOFFEES

Part 1: September 2006-The Idea

You know how it is, you’ve had a few beers, there’s nothing on the telly apart from Big Brother’s garden makeover from Hell so you boot up the PC and log onto the Kipper forums to see what’s what. Scrolling down the mostly deranged threads in the as yet undedicated Everything Else forum (Paul Mac was still with us then- RIP Paul) I spy a thread posted by a lad called Kenaldo titled “The Coolest thing in the World”. You can’t ignore a title like that and it turns out to contain a link to a website detailing something called the Mongol Rally. This is an anarchic, balls out, trans continental, non race to Mongolia using seriously crap cars. It also aims to raise tons of money for Mongolian charities as the cars are auctioned off for said charities when they finally arrive at Ulaan Baataar in Mongolia and teams have to raise a pound for every cc of their car’s engine capacity. Wow, thinks I and with the cut and paste abilities of a 40 year old computaphobe I forwarded the link to a few mates with an “Anyone fancy this then?” sort of message. The next morning I got one solitary reply from an old, dear and rarely seen mate called Jay- we used to play in pop bands together when we were younger and better looking. The message read “Well up for this, when are we going?” Now Jay is indeed a top bloke but he does have a certain well earned reputation for a) professional quality drinking and b) slight unreliability. The two may be connected, who knows?

Part 2: March 2007- It Gets Serious

Six months later and we’ve both squared it with our wives (ace groveller me!) and Jay, proving my doubts to be ill founded, is really committed- most importantly he has deliberately told EVERYONE he knows about our plans so will find it impossible to bale out. All we have to do is to blag one of the 200 rally places and Team Scraz (we’re in a hurry you see) is GO! The places are to be released in batches of 50 in one of those mad scramble internet free for alls so beloved by Glastonbury festival etc. The link goes live but after 10,000 hits per minute the rally server crashes. Hmmm, not looking good, 10,000 into 200 doesn’t really go does it. The 1st 150 places eventually go in 20 seconds, we don’t get one. After loads of moaning from non broadband folk the organisers release the last 50 places by lottery and at midnight I get a call from Jay to say we have fluked a place- we are jammy sods and will remain so almost to the end.

Part 3: Preparation

1st job, get a car. Ebay provided a 1991 Lada Samara in decent nick for £210. Despite major mickey taking from everyone this proved to be the 2nd best decision we made. Ladas are fantastically strong cars and yes, I can prove it. Next the car needed prepping for a 7-8000 mile dash across Europe and Asia so after a team meeting we ‘agree’ a whopping £200 budget for this. Err, that should do it says Jay before jumping into his nice SAAB car and driving away at speed. I decide to keep my mouth shut, cross my fingers and toes and take control of car matters pronto sharpish.
By calling in every favour I have, I manage to persuade Aldon Automotive to set the car up on their rolling road. Other friends provide parts FOC, without Paul Matty, and Dave Kriesel we wouldn’t have made it past Belgium- ta fellas. Jay chips in with a free pair of rally tyres from local specialist Dowsett tyres, nice one! Friends and family along with the local Bingo circle and some serious hustling by Jay provided the £1300 charity donation and we were in business.

At this point I made our 1st best decision- I decided to make contact with the Russian Toffees using contact details posted on the Bluekipper main site. After all, this was a great way to meet Blues in far flung places and a fellow Evertonian is worth 20 gobshites any day. Enter Andrey from Krasnador in Southern Russia- fanatical Bluenose and driving force behind the Russian Toffees. Andrey got back to me straight away- and offered to do anything he could to help. I haven’t actually met Andrey but speaking to him on the phone you quickly draw two conclusions
1) He is a Top Evertonian
2) He is almost certainly insane
I thought I was an out of towner coming originally from St.Helens and now living in Malvern but Krasnador- Wow! Andrey, we salute you.
We were planning to travel via Moscow which is far from Krasnador so Andrey put me into contact with another Evertonian in Moscow, enter Pavel Kirillov. Pavel offered to arrange to meet with the other Moscow Evertonians “in a pub somewhere” and also to arrange rental of a reasonably priced apartment as Moscow is an expensive city. Impressed? I certainly was. All True Blues know that Everton is a truly special Club but things like this make you realise the truth in this. As Bill Kenwright once said “There are no Everton supporters, only Everton fanatics”. Never a truer word spoken.

Stage 4: July 2007- The Journey

With a HUGE hangover from last nights family farewell and a body full of adrenaline we set off from Hyde Park for Mongolia on the 21st July 2007.
After 6 days solid driving we, now with 2 other rally teams in tow, pull into a Moscow petrol station to meet a smiling Pavel complete with massive Russian Toffees flag. We ditch our cars and stuff at the lovely apartment Pavel has arranged and immediately embark on the 1st of what were christened ‘Pavel Tours’. Powered only it seems by beer and cigarettes Pavel sets a punishing and relentless pace in a tour on foot of the immediate area. We eat Georgian food washed down with vodka (delicious), visit parks, cross bridges over the Moscow river, drink beer in bars, walk a bit more, see the Russian Parliament and Foreign affairs buildings, buy more beer etc. etc. The man is a machine and we are relieved when we are finally home and off to bed.

The next day Pavel Tours shows us the rest of Moscow (all of it, yes really!) before meeting another Rally team in Red Square and eating lunch (more beer), visiting a cafeteria bar with a huge picture of Brezchnev (more beer) and finally arriving at a rather nice café/bar where we meet the other Russian Toffees. The next 5 hours are a total mystery to me as at this point the Russians deployed their secret weapon – VODKA. Many Everton songs were sung, gifts were exchanged, the bar emptied of respectable patrons, much, much vodka was consumed. Jay (a supporter of THAT other team) was serenaded all night by the Russian Toffees male voice choir’s melodic rendition of “Kopites are Gobshites” – it was becoming a legendary night. Until. More Vodka Appeared.

Fellow Blues, this is no place for a full account of what happened next, but I personally woke up several hours later in a Moscow gutter, wrapped in an Everton flag, still completely ‘refreshed’. Jay was missing in action complete with apartment keys. Eventually all the group were reunited outside the apartment having, it would now seem, gone their separate ways after leaving the bar. One of the Rally teams had even enjoyed the hospitality of the Moscow Police but Pavel was reassuring, calmly explaining that in Moscow this was a “perfectly normal night out”.
To the Russian Toffees of Moscow- Thank you for a legendary night and for teaching 8 Englishmen to NEVER, EVER, EVER drink vodka with Russians. You may think you’ll be OK, but you won’t, trust me, you just won’t.

The next day was mostly spent dealing with the aftermath of the night before but by 5pm or so we were ready to move on. Yuri, one of the Russians present at the previous night’s massacre had offered to meet up with us in the Siberian city of Ulaan Ude, a week’s relentless drive from Moscow at best. With this in mind we continued on via the Lada factory near Samara, Omsk, Tomsk, Novosibirsk and finally rolled into UU (as it is known) a week later looking filthy and a little worse for wear.

Yuri fortunately is considerably more sane than either Andrey or Pavel and came complete with the steadying influence of his lovely wife Sveta. As a consequence we had a stay in UU unsullied with alcohol fuelled incidents. Instead we enjoyed two days of good food and local culture, a perfect antidote to the previous week’s slog along 3000 miles of dreadful roads filled with suicidal truck drivers. Once again the Russian Toffees came up with the goods and once again we thank you. The remaining drive to Mongolia was pretty uneventful if very beautiful. When we arrived at the finish (a bar in the centre of town called Dave’s Place) on the 8th of August we were chuffed to see that we were only the 8th team home out of 200 even though we had played it for laughs from day 1.

The first match of the season versus Wigan was on the 11th. Maybe, just maybe... Jay managed to crown our finishing celebrations in Dave’s Place by gashing his arms, head and breaking a rib (his blood is brown not red by the way) so was also happy to get home ASAP and so at 3pm on Saturday the 11th of August I sat down with my son Lewis in our seats in the Lower Gwladys, z-cars was playing, Goodison roared! It was a great trip, legendary even, but God was it good to be back.!
Come On You Blues! Dave Richardson. (The Baron) www.teamscraz.co.uk (25/08/07)
