After a press conference at Goodison this morning, Moyesy just wanted to talk about the forthcoming Leeds game. Reluctantly after many questions concerning the future of Franny Jeffers, Moyesy confirmed that he will no longer be welcome at Goodison. Under FA rules though, training facilities must be provided for the striker, so it looks like the youth team will have a new training partner till he returns to Highbury on June 1st. Listening to Arsene Wengers comments as well, it definitely looks like Jeffers will be looking for a new club there as well. Below are some comments that have been sent to bluekipper.com. Official Club Statement says: "Following a misunderstanding with regard to team selection for the game with Tottenham, Everton can confirm that Francis Jeffers held talks with manager David Moyes on Friday night. During the course of that meeting Francis made certain statements with regard to his future, indicating that he no longer wished to play for the manager. In an attempt to resolve the situation David Moyes met with Francis for a second time on Saturday morning, giving him the opportunity to retract his statement - something he chose not to do. Francis Jeffers' loan spell from Arsenal will end on June 1 when he will return to Highbury." (12/04/04)

Arsene Wenger says: "I don't know what has happened but what I do know is that Francis Jeffers is on a year's loan at Everton and cannot play for us. Anyway the problem concerns him and Everton and not us. I've not spoken to him at all because he is not our player again until the summer. I've not spoke to David Moyes either, but if he wants to me then I will obviously do so. It is a communication or disciplinary problem, which only involves Everton and not Arsenal." (12/04/04)

Jeffers Debate

* I've read Mickey's comments about the ears. I would like to add one or two other comments of my own. I was disappointed when
Jeffers was sold although greed is not a characteristic I admire in youth. I believe he was more likely to have left because of the poor
relationship Smith and Knox had with the younger players at the club, e.g. Ball, Dunne. I don't believe you should sell your best players, we've done that a few times and lived to regret it (I still can remember the day we sold Alan Ball). Jeffers seems to have gone
backwards since joining Arsenal, maybe he was spoilt by all the passers in their team. I think Moyes must have lost some faith in him with the two misses against Fulham in the FA Cup replay. When the ball is played out of defense he is too often beaten to the first ball and consequently the ball comes back upon the defenders all too easily. He must compete for the ball more vigorously and learn to hold the ball up for longer to allow the midfield to support the front players. His supposed worth is in his eye for a goal. In the
past two years he has missed too many chances to be allowed this caveat. He needs to make a larger contribution to the team. In respect of the dispute between the two men one must really admire Moyes' capacity for fairness and willingness to move on and one must also accept Jeffers' assertion that his disappointment was based on his desire to contribute positively to the team. Pragmatism must be the order of the day, what benefits the club and team most must determine the outcome. I think Jeffers can play a vital role when fit in the future of the club, he is an Evertonian at heart. The interest of Rangers and indeed originally of Wenger himself is evidence of his ability. We will need top class strikers when Campbell and Ferguson's contracts are up in 2006.

* Jeffers as a case study is a real lesson in the motivations of career progression being grossly disproportionate to the actual abilities and realities of the man himself. One comment from Hansen on MOTD that he is "the new bergkamp" seemed to create a stunning disbelief that he was better than all around him, and whilst no one would doubt he did have a good season then, he was a frequently injured player just making his breakthrough into the premiership. History, as always, paints a clearer picture of his actions, and provides motive for his career options, i.e. delusions of grandeur, and of course money. The decision to move was a personal choice
and if we were offered the same deal I'm sure we'd all leave our jobs and do it too - what grates on the nerves was his return with the "I have been wronged" stance, claiming he never asked to leave, which was clearly bullshit. There is an argument that the modern nature of the game itself has ultimately eroded what was once tremendous potential, but you have to entertain it to begin with if its going to have any real effect - there are plenty of players who have kept their feet on the ground and worked through
their initial fan fared arrival to battle through losses of form and confidence to become superb professionals. Jeffers is not one of them. If a man cant count his blessings that he's been disgustingly over paid for doing next to nothing for years and then get his chance again with a club he professed to love, then may god have mercy on him because absolutely nobody else will or should. He is an embarrassment and a professional comedy. If anyone behaved like that in any line of work they would be put in their
place immediately - the real tragedy is that whilst every fan curses his attitude, character and the shame of such a waste, he probably still feels like he's the victim and that the world owes him a living, all the while collecting his weekly kings ransom.

* Good riddance to bad rubbish. Jeffers has had chances this season on the pitch and in front of goal and he has missed them.Six starts he has had, I wouldn't have even let him into the ground. Nobody has ever left our club and returned a better player. The likes of Chadwick, Clarke and Osman must feel it when they really want to play for the club and are prepared to harness their skills on loan with other clubs to better their chances. * I had mixed feelings when I heard Franny was coming back. On one hand i thought, he's a natural goal scorer, an Evertonian and an England international. On the other I remembered how he enjoyed shafting us a few seasons back when Arsenal beat us 4-3 at highbury, and how he's been a shadow of his former self since he left. He may not have been given alot of chances since he got here, but why not? He hasn't been good enough, he's been injured and he's missed a few sitters when he has played. If you used to get the Evertonian years ago when it first came out (yeah, I know but I got it for my lad and when you live in the south you don't exactly get maximum publicity for the blue boys in the press down here so it seemed like a good idea at the time), Franny had a diary in there whilst he was at the FA Academy and it was everything you wanted to hear. True blue, just wants to play for his beloved team etc etc...just like the rest of us, except he got the chance. So what happens. He gets big ideas and leaves his beloved blues for a bench at Highbury. Now you can just about forgive that given the footie (or lack of it) we were playing at the time, but when he gets a second chance with a manager who's got more character, backbone and principles than Franny will ever understand, and he blows it, then he's shown up to be what he really is - and it's not what is represented by him kissing the badge on the rare occasions he scored for us since his return. Go away, grow up and pray that one day you'll be lucky enough to be invited back for a third time to play for the club that the rest of us would willingly offer up just about everything we've got to spend just 5 minutes playing on the ground where Dixie, the Cannonball Kid, the Vision, Bally, Reidy, Nev and the rest gave us so much to remember. * I don't think at the time it was a gamble to bring Franny back to Goodison although I am disappointed to read some of the comments that have allegedly been made.

I have always been a big fan of Jeffers and although I was disappointed could see why he decided to leave for Arsenal when he did. When I saw him line up up front with Rooney for England I thought it would be great if the two could link up front for Everton especially as Ferguson, Campbell and Radzinski are all knocking on a bit and with Franny being a supposed die hard Everton notably as he openly admits not as much as Rooney but still it made perfect sense to bring him back when Moyes did.

How shit did he look though when he played on the few occasions he has this season! Sure he needs a run of games but he's done nothing at all when he's played to put himself above any of the others in the Goodison pecking order. We have not seen the player who left Merseyside for North London, Arsenal have took the natural aggression and passion out of him and tried to fine tune him into being another Ian Wright, this has not helped Franny!

* Was Moyesy consulted in the whole sorry affair, when Jeffers came back to Goodison. Was it the money men again tinkering in team affairs, doing a deal with Arsenal, on the money we are still owed. If so, why did not we insist on the cash off Arsenal, and put it towards a player Moyesy genuinely wanted, instead of bringing him back from were he wanted to be. It was obvious Moyesy was not keen on the player from day one. I am led to believe that this has cost Everton financially, in the region of £1.5 million big ones.
