Some added comments addressed to Blue Bill in addition to Eric's excellent assessment.
OK so this season has been a disappointment, but is this a reason for all the doom & gloom around EFC at the moment? Let's look at the positive facts first. We're still in with a shout of a Europa place. We're playing good football, just not scoring enough and last summer although there were not many new signings of note, the effort and money was spent on keeping our current squad.
Last August before a ball was kicked we were happy with this. Bill, you have shown a lot of faith in Moyes and he in turn has been extremely well paid for the excellent job he has done. Did I read once that his 5 year deal was worth 4m per annum? Well good for him, he's been worth every penny.
Moyes is our hero, he has everyone's backing (or at least should) and he is not to blame for the clubs finances, unlike the fat Spanish waiter's legacy.
Now the negative. Before Christmas, on this website and several others, were many posts asking Pienaar to sign a contract extension or do one. He eventually leaves are we're depressed. Why? Ok he did well for us but it's just one player.
Yak left, again we're all depressed and I don't understand why. He hasn't been the same since his Achilles injury so I was glad to hear he was going. We could do without the expense of a well paid bench warmer.
Let Chelsea and Arsenal and Man U admire our better players. All clubs admire other players, all fans do the same. Can we just get back to supporting our team? The more we do on the pitch, the better the future will be.
In the short term, our future is fine. Being short on cash is not news; it's been that way since 1991. As Donald Sutherland said in Kelly's Hero's, "enough with them negative waves.
