Sell Jack To Move On

I read with total frustration yesterday your article on Moyesy not being able to raise the £6m down payment to bring Charles N'Zogbia to Goodison this summer without bringing cash in first from other sales.

Later in the evening I got my can of lager and settled down to watch our up and coming England talent in the U21 Championship, which included our very own Jack Rodwell.

Now I am no expert in the whys and wherefores of football, but I can see that Jack is a half decent player, not brilliant just adequate at his job. This season though I have not seen develop at all at Goodison, with Moyes deciding to go for Felliani when he was fit in the central midfield position instead.

Now to my point and it has been raised on here a few times via your comments or e mails. We are where we are as a club, ticking by, with hardly any cash and we have players who want to be bought by other clubs. In Rodwell all I can ever see is a capable player who will make a living in the game but who will never be a world beater. We have better players in his position, so if we need Charles N'Zogbia and I may add a quality front man too, Rodwell surely must make way to make these deals happen.

No doubt a lot of fans will be up in arms about selling our future, but that isn't the point to me. Our future is raising say £20m on Rodwell who in my opinion is an OK  player but not the future England Captain as some are making out.

I think Moyes is playing a good game 'bigging' him up, when he knows he is not the player some make him out to be, but a player he may get a king's ransom for. With Chelsea or Manchester City throwing money round like confetti, this may be our one summer to cash in with a deal like Lescott's that was way over and above what the player was actually worth.

If the Blues are too move forward, the only way is to sell Rodwell and take the club forward.

Thanks

Nathan Kendrick (Warrington)

Last point from me on Rodwell: Imagine if we spent 20-25 million on a player and all we got was him, would we be happy? For that kind of money we would want a megastar, someone to give us something we desperately need and he is a long way from bein that, so for that reason alone, I think it's vital that we sell him. The club is far bigger than a kid with "Potential".

Is football the only market place where people call you names for having no money? Since Liverpool is one of the poorest cities in Europe is it any wonder Scousers get called names?

Now for starters i dont think it is directly Kenwrights fault he has tried to sell us before. the problem is we have a board of about 10 people who all want top price for their shares and unwilling to negotiate, I agree with all die hard blues change and investment needed. Rodwell is a great player but even at the under 21's he wasn't the best player I have seen at the tournament, which he should of been with all his experience. now if we are to sell him we need to get this 20-25mil to build our team, because at the end of it, no one player is worth more than our great club. life without rodwell or life without Everton. i know what id rather live without.

Think people are forgetting the felli situation. Less than 2 years now on his contract if he goes into the new season. Unless he signs in the next few weeks it's him that has got to go we can ill afford another pienaar situation here cos this lads worth 30m to us. Therefore we have a ready made replacement in Jack and 30m in our back burners to sign messi! Ok maybe Defoe and Nzogbia

Rodwell is a strange one...Top managers and coaches seem to lavish praise on him and yet, along with most here, I've only seem play like he apparently can on a handful of occasions. Therefore he would appear to be a gamble: sell before he's found out and his stock falls, or hold on and watch him become the star he is forecast to be. But is holding on really an option? Would be play ahead of a fully fit Felli? And if not, where would be his second best position in which to shine? Surely not in the wide areas. So even if we held onto him, we may never know if he was going to be a great player because, ironically, we might not even play him. It seems that selling is the only option. Shame.

Rodwell could well be a very good player in 4 or 5 years, but the sad reality is we need 20 million now. We cannot afford to wait 4 or 5 years for him, we need the instant fix that sellin him would provide. Felli is miles better than him and don't forget only slightly older than him. - Felli has another 8 years in him easily. Rodwell, Bili, yobo and yak all going could make us in the region of 35 million. Imagine what moyes could do with 35 million? - That's the exact reason why me must cash in on Rodwell!

cant believe how fickle some of us can be its not jacks fault theres no money in the club leave the boy alone he will be a top player theres no doubt about that a few years back the bank of scotland called in the loans on the club and a deal was set up to pay them back over the years with a percentage of our season ticket money does anyone know if were still paying this debt off to these parasite bastards who incidenntly bent over backwards to help the red shite out.

we already have a good squad we just need 4/3 players i.e larsson (free) and long (5) carlton cole (6)/stanilsa (3)the young one from west ham. i say we need 3 players is that if we sell yak (4),yobo(4), vaughan (2.5), we need to replace them as we do not have a huge squad we have 10.5 there on top of pienaar (2.5) that 13m sold and 14m to but them in. what people do not relise we must have and this is proven one of the best youth teams around. we have got Vellios, maggy, barkley, duffy, baxter, wallace and the ones that have already broken through rodwell and coleman. all this we need taken over yes we do but if it doesnt happen this season so what we got a good enough squad and players braking through to mount a challenge for champions league nxt season. as i say we will have a good squad next season that will be quite big and full of quality youth and experience we just need to bring the younger lads through.

The best way for us to progress as a club is to get kenright out. I cant see this happening anytime soon unfortunately, but the selling of Rodwell is a must in my opinion. With 20-25 mill Moyes could completely alter the look of the side, and keep Fellaini, who looks like a much better player.

to be honest, yes this lad COULD be a world beater, but thats if he trains with the likes of Barca, Real or Man U, a massive club like that... Not Everton, we don't have the resources, or the coaching team available to make world beaters, yes we had rooney, but would he be exactly how he is now if he was at everton the period he's been at man united for? I don't think so. Id love us to be able to create a world beater but like i said, not good enough resources, not a good enough player. Get rid, 20 - 25m is good enough for me and ill pay for his taxi there.

I've said it before and I'll say it again....fuck off Kenwright & take the useless Billionaire board with you.10 years without a pot to piss in, is enough now. It's not even remotely funny anymore.Even Dave Whelan has better business sense.Just no taste in clubs.

Please excuse the typo in my previous post! The Hammers spent 4 mil on Nobly Nolan. |THEY'VE STILL GOT 33 MILL TO PLAY WITH THOUGH! We've got cupons I think!

As I've stated in the past week on these pages, I'm firmly in the " Sell Rodwell" club. With the exeption of a handful of games over a two year period the lad looks decidedly average to me. As for sending out a bad message to the other young players at the club, why ? The young players all get a fair crack of the whip with Moysie, if your good enough you get a run, if your good enough and a mega rich club wants you. . . You get a lucrative move and we get to fund a few decent signings ? We're skint FACT, if we can get £20+ million for an average player great. If it was Felli or Bainsey it would be different, we would ALL be up in arms because those two are world class not average hopefuls !!!

How interested are the big money clubs now anyway? Surely if people here can see his lack of progress and inflated price tag then so can the scouts and managers. Man Utd were meant to be keen but they got Phil Jones in instead! I do think Rodwell will be a quality player one day, but we need several quality players NOW. If we can get a good fee surely it would be best for the club to sell. The problem may be that our valuation is too high for the money teams to gamble on.
Drew, Cardiff, 7:16 PM 16/06/2011

How can it be wrong to sell an over-rated player for an over-inflated fee? Sell him before he's truly found out and use the money to buy 2 quality players. I want BK to sell up as much as the next man but let's be realistic...... Also did Utd selling Ronald send out wrong signals? Did it heck.

I am really concerned about the lack of patience in some fans.... I appreciate that just sitting comfortable in the table is not a great experience for the fans, but this talk of take-over at any cost and get rid of Kenwright / Moyes is dangerous. Despite his relatively shallow pockets compared to other potential investors, but this prudence will secure the long term future of the club. Wreckless ownership could put us in Pompey's position very easily. Might be nice to have Man City's owner but that could all end in tears when he gets bored. We might have another Glazer to ruin the club and, face facts, we couldn't support that kind of debt for a bit of glory. I like seeing the team punching above its weight rather than under-achieving with all the money in the world like other clubs in the NW!

So Jack Rodwell is a vastly overrated player is he? That's why probably the greatest manager in football is willing to pay £20m for him, get a grip you lemon heads, the lad is going to be a hell of a player may I remind you of the form he was in before he had all his injuries, he hasn't played well for a number of reasons, injuries and playing with a team low on confidence being among them, if we sold him yes I would be gutted but could we really turn down £20m probably not, but if you really think that this lad is overrated then you seriously need to give your head a shake, mark my words he will be a class player sooner rather than later, it's just a shame that he will more than likely be doing it away from Goodison

Reluctantly I have to agree. If you take away the fact he's one of our own, Just ask yourself would you spend 20 million+ on him?? There's not one player in the under 21 worth over 10. We'd be miles better off with 3 decent players around 7/8 million.
Jonny, Burnley, 5:35 PM 16/06/2011

Do not sell Rodwell. Let us first dispose of Yakabu, Yobo, Vaughan ( done ) Heitinga and Billy. Before we get to selling crown Jewels. This should raise £25m

can't agree more, cash in while we can. He's been pretty much out of his depth all season when he's played...just keep it quiet though

When I see the likes of relegated West Ham splashing out 33million on just Nolan and then watch us struggling to scrape up 4.5 million (half the full amount) for a striker. It makes me wonder WTF is going on at our “TOP 10 Premier League” club! It’s official! We’ve gone from the Mersey Millionaires to Premier Leagues Paupers! But to add insult to injury; we have a Billionaire on the board who “officially” won’t contribute a bean until we’ve got a new stadium! Like we’d need his cash if we did have a new stadium?! If we could, I’d get rid of the Earl and tell him to shove his catch 22 where the sun don’t shine!

If we've got to sell someone, then it makes sense for it to be Rodwell, as we'd ge most for him out of the 'non-essentials' we have at the club. Fellaini's better than him in his position and we can't really afford to have a £20m reserve, even with Fellaini's injury problems. But it'd be good if we can keep him, because he's a decent player. He's not lived up to his potential this season, but that doesn't make him useless. I'd rather we stuck with him and saw how he improved, if we can get cash from elsewhere.
Rory, Portsmouth, 4:57 PM 16/06/2011

Totally agree. It's sad that we're a selling club but we shouldn't hold onto a player we don't need when we're crying out for wide men and strikers. I'll be sad to see him go but happy to bring in N'zogbia and Larsson (fingers crossed). Hopefully raise another £15mil with the sales of Yakubu, Yobo, Bily and Heitinga to spend on some strikers...

Which club got bought out last season that splashed cash ? I agree we need taking over but no one has come up with the cash simple as ! I'd sell Rodwell too !

Nathan I am not sure that Rodwell is as average as you suggest. However, all this doom and gloom spouted by everyone that without a huge investment (from our financial fairy godmother) then all Everton will be is a 'dog and pony' show, is doing the club a huge dis-service. Remember without a fully fit first choice striker we came 7th. Next year Becks will improve more, Saha and Timmy will be fit. Our midfield is strong (not top four, but strong) and our back line is up there with the best in the premier league. So yes six is in our grasp without selling the family silver. However even if we did sell Jack what would you get for £20M = Demba Ba £3M sign on and £3M a year for 5 years. Just rejoice that you are a ‘Blue’

Here here. vastly overated player. Looked out of his depth at Under 21 level last night. He doesn't seem to have the fire in his belly. Get the money now before he has another bad game. !

I disagree the only way too move forward is for kenwrong to sell instead of pretending he wants to!! Don't tell me there's no buyers either because how many takeovers have happened this season!! You can't buy if there's no seller! Selling jack would be a bad signal to other youngsters at the club!
