Stick With Yakubu

E-MAIL From Blue Peter

With all the talk about a new striker coming for the new season, there is one that is still an Everton player who could do a job for us.  I know Yakubu had a bit of a fall out with David Moyes which resulted in him going to Leicester. But if we are honest I think Yakubu is better than most of the strikers that are being mentioned

So if Moyesy can patch up his differences with Yak he would be like a new signing. If he came back in the summer with a new vigour gets a dose of confidence early on. He wouldn't be a gamble like some of the names linked with us.

Unless we get a top striker and I mean a top striker I would stick with Yak. I for one think that Moyesy made a mistake last year when he allowed him to leave. I would love to see his smile in the blue shirt next season

If you want to sell your car put it in the Paper, Wanna sell most anything put it on ebay or the paper, so if you want to sell the Yak put him on display in the shop window at Goodison Park where if he does well and gets noticed the price will rise and we may get a bit more than half the money we payed for him.. if he doesn't then we can trade him for someone at a lower league club and where the Yak will be able to bang in goals...

I don't doubt his ability and never have...However i do doubt his attitude and work rate as a player. It took him a good 6months to adapt playing for us! If he changes his attitude and aplies himself properly then welcome him back. If not try flog him because he's a waste of a shirt otherwise!

If we're talking about bringing strikers of that age group back to the club then I'd rather have Sharpy. Younger and in better physical condition.

I like the yak but when you watch him play you can see that his heart just isn't in it.I think he knows his time has come at everton,so sorry to say it but let's sell the yak and move on.

If we can get him to full fitness and get him sharp again he is a proven scorer, but its getting him to that level of fitness and keeping him there that is the gamble. Although he played 20 games for leicester between Jan and May so perhpas his fitness is coming back. A full pre-season and who knows?

Thing is with the Yak, wherever he goes, be it Portsmouth, Middlesbrough, Us or Leicester or anyone else, when he first goes to his team, he wants to impress. Thats why he gets all his goals. Once he has his feet in the door, he gets lazy and cant be arsed. And that's the way he's always been. If he was that good why did all the other teams let him go, why didn't Leicester decide to pay his wages. I'm sorry, but he's too lazy for me. He needs to be kept on his toes and the only way to do that (for him) is by trying to impress at his new club. The best thing we can do for us and him is sell him and get someone with a hunger and a desire. I would sooner take a chance with Bothroyd/Mackail Smith/Long cause you'll get more from them than you would from him.

He's over the hill and everyone in the game knows it, that's why only Leicester and West Ham came in for him and even West Ham decided to offer a lower fee. Sad but true.

The Yak is certainly better than the players we are being linked with. His injury and that horrible sitter he missed in the World Cup knocked him, so a good pre-season, a kiss and make up with Moyes, and he'll be raring to go. It would be typical of Everton though to sell him for 4mil, buy someone shit for 10mil who manages about 9 goals all season, whilst the Yak bangs in about 20 elsewhere. The solution is simple: feed the Yak and he will score!

The problem we've got is that our strikers are expected to provide the first line of defence, hold the line on their own, and score 20+ goals a season. All for under £10 million if possible, and not expect the wages they could get at "giants" such as Newcastle, Spurs, even West Ham! I just don't think the Yak is dynamic enough for what Moyes wants, does not really contribute enough when up front on his own as his lack of movement limits us in attack, and also doesn't provide us with much support during the build up of play. When the Yak was scoring goals when he signed, he wasn't working hard, just that he was focussed on being in the box and scoring goals for us. Also, he always seemed to work better when he had someone like AJ alongside him doing the running for him. If we played with a font 2 pairing more often, we might have seen more goals from the Yak. I'd like us to go in for Long at Reading. Might have made a good partnership with the Yak, but I think as far as the Yak is concerned, the sun has set on his time with us - he wants to go, Moyes wants him out, and neither Manager or player seem the type to kiss and make up.

It's a tough one but I have to agree, Mickail-Smith, Bothroyd, Long, all names that don't exactly fill me full of confidence and yes they are all a risk, but so is the Yak we never really know which Yak is going to turn up, if his heart isn't it then we are going together any goals from him, so either way it's a risk, to be honest I ain't exactly happy with either scenario but I'm used to it I'm an Everton fan

How many Premiership clubs do you see trying to buy him - none ! The reason for this is that due to his achillies injury he will never reach the fitness levels required in the Prem. As much as I love the Yak, he just isnt worth 50k a week in wages anymore. I am sorry but he isnt coming back and once he drops his wage demands he is Chamionship bound.

If he could consistently put in performances similar to his last derby appearance then that would do for me.

The Yak will score goals whichever new team he goes to, unfortunately coming back to us is not an option, his heart wouldn't be in it whereas his new team will get a year/18 months out of him. No disrespect but a lesser team than the blues would build his confidence and reputation back up, west ham seem ideal! without trying to contradict my point though , I personally would keep a half asleep and unintersested Yak over an untried and only 1 year younger striker in craig m smith. proven premier league goalscorer - £3m scored less than Beckford in the same league - £3m seems like a no brainer!!

i remember one game last season against the shite were he tore there defence apart so give him a couple of games to build his confidence and then if he isnt bangin them in for us move him on in january

Eh? Banging goals in for fun for Leicester? He score 11 goals in a league lower than Premiership who play 46 games, he said he wants to go, so sorry but he need to go! i'd rather get Vaughan back

You say he won't be gamble like others but he is. If he doesn't play well and get the goals we need the new striker to then the gamble of whether to keep him or not hasn't paid off. I think we should get shot of him while he's still worth a bit and use the money to get a striker in who's not such a nomad and hard to please.

The crux of the matter is whether his heart is in it for everton. If it is, we all know what he can do, the goals he scored at leicester proves his sharpness is returning after that serious injury. He is like a statue for most of the game but give him the ball and he is capable of turning a game, feed the yak. I suspect he blames our intense style of play for his injury and wants an easier life elsewhere.

We should just cash in on him, and get someone in who is not bone idol and will at least move

Really don't know, as you say he could be a new signing but I'm sick of waiting around for the likes of him, Bily, Rodders etc to sort themselves out and start playing. This summer is an opportunity to make money out of those players and bring in ones that are actually on form and want to play for us. I think I'd take £3m for the Yak although he could, if he got back to form, end up being priceless to us.

I just want to mention that the picture of the Yak and Moyes inset is a brilliant shot of happier days! I think it’s how we all want to remember the Yak!

I think the Yak always struggled as he couldn't compete with Andy Johnson's work rate chasing down defenders and that could lead to fans getting on his back. He's definitely got the ability but I'm not sure he truly has the passion to go out there and fulfill it. He seems like he constantly needs an arm round his shoulder and to feel loved but unless you are going to put the effort in you're not going to get that love and respect from your fans. I'd love for him to stay and hit his peak form consistently for us again, but if he's not going to pull his weight we'd be better off spending his wages on Bothroyd or Mackail-Smith who might be gambles but would at least be hungry to prove they are good enough for the top flight. Sadly it seems Yak feels he is good enough and doesn't have to try hard to prove it.

At his best he was good for us and we were good for him. That's long in the past now and it's time for him to move on. That's just the way things work out sometime. There's no point in recriminations from anyone. I doubt if he could do a job these days because of his achilles injury.

The Yak where do you start. Love the smile and the goals who doesnt however he s a player whom needs his ego massaged quite a bit and I dont think Moyes has got the patience for it. Workrate and results are the bottom line for any manager/club and the yaks was 60% at times but a quality proven prem goalscorer which some of the names we are linked are far from. Still think we need pace and someone who can slot in to the team from the off, if Yak stays at least we know we ll get that.

I think even Yak would agree that it’s getting a bit silly now! I like the guy, but he's wanted out of Everton for years now so let’s just put him out of his misery! His form dipped well before his injury as a result! And if his heart's not in it then we'd be flogging a dead horse! Plus he'd be robbing places from our new strikers like Maggie or Becks! And all for 50k a week!? No thanks! Good Luck at Bolton Benny! I really really mean that!

i agree - no matter what you think of the mans work rate there is no denying his quality... he looked a new man when he wore the leicester shirt banging goals in for fun - granted it wasnt in as good a league but weve all seen the yak bang in 20 goals a season for awful teams like boro and pompey. if we can get him up to at least 75% of his best where hes enjoyin his game again then you will see a return of goals im sure of it! with himself and saha upfront u cant go wrong. and with the added pressure from Beckford and Cahill snappin at their heels its a pretty formidable strike force we have!

Got a point, I'd certainly have the Yak over Bothroyd and Mackail smith anyday. maybe going out on loan last season give him his confidence back and let him regain that bit of sharpness that was missing in his game when he came back from injury. lets not forget how lethal he can be, and how well he can play that lone strikers role

i agree 100%. i do not believe amokachi believes the same only because he is nigerian. yakubu is a top striker, wherever he go he will score goals. 10- 15 if he stays at everton, maybe more, i believe championship was good for him ,the injury is propably behind him. "Yakubu is better than most of the strikers that are being mentioned" 100% right. after all the money we are talking for his sale are really silly...

Can't help but agree, going back to the old saying "form is temporary, class is permanent" even though we've not seen the class for a while and he seems to have been bangin the meat and Artayter pies i think it's a matter of time. He does need someone along side him to do the running but i think thats Beckfords spot in the team sorted. F**k Anichebe off and buy someone that could be a better impact sub cos we've got no money to buy a striker good enough to start.

Sorry pal, he isn't an everton player of today for me. He never works hard for the team and how we set up under moyes, thats what you have to do as a front man. He is half decent but well behind louis and becks. Moyes will come up with something he always does. In Moyes I trust
