Can Everton Say No To A Big Jagielka Bid?

E-MAIL From Billy Bullens

There are seven days left before that bastard transfer window shuts. The sooner the better for me. If am honest I still think we can pull a rabbit out the fire

But as time gets closer I'm really starting to get worried about Everton accepting a bid for one of our bigger and better players.

With all the tripe that we Evertonians have had to endure over last week or so, it would not surprise me if Everton accept a late bid for the likes of Jagielka

I know David Moyes has said it's up to him if anyone leaves but if Arsenal comes in with a late bid of say £18m or so will David Moyes and Everton be able to say no. I don't think they can. Jags has said to his credit that he'll leave it up to Everton

Arsen and Arsenal are going through their own crisis at the moment and they need a few big players to come in and help them through it. So whose players can Arsenal target? Everton's

He's been in for Jags before so he obviously rates him. So now he's even got more money to spend after the Nasri deal, I think he'll come in again for him right at the death.

I hope am wrong but the way things are going it just wouldn't surprise me. Please shut the window, it's getting very, very cold

If a decent bid comes in, then yes, he has to be sold. All the money would go towards servicing our £45m debt. We could quite easily clear our debt by selling players, however we still have a problem because without a new stadium there isn't a mechanism for generating increased revenue, which in turn means, over time we just end up getting into debt again, unless we keep the wage bill very low, which in turn means we accept a lower standard of playing squad. Again, as with so many of EFC's problems it all goes back to repeatedly failing to address the stadium issue. At the very least we should've started re-developing Goodison 15-20 years ago when it became apparent corporate boxes and a better standard of matchday experience for everyone would generate more money. Instead we stood still, carrying on thinking it was still 1985. Until the stadium is sorted out once and for all, EFC are always going to struggle financially because we can't generate any more revenue, and we can't attract any serious 'investors'. Meanwhile, Goodison costs more and more each year to maintain.

I can't believe there are some people out there who think ANY club can live beyond its means, that includes us. We all know the situation and have known it for years, we have to sell to buy and so does almost every other club. Aston Villa only got money when they sold half their team to City and United. Same applies everywhere else, anyone who thinks anything else is kidding themselves. Everton's balance sheet tells you all you need to know about what money there is and isn't for transfers. Anybody who doesn't know the situation after all these years is either ignorant or fucking thick.

Reality check!! All I hear is the problem lies with the board. the same board that sanctioned £12m for Yakubu?? Fellaini?? etc etc Moyes selects these players and the board go into debt to get them, 3 seasons on, Yakubu cannot be given away. Maybe the board is guilty of allowing over-priced players to be bought. Remember the Scandinavian centre-back?? played half an hour, couldnt head the ball and cost £5m. You cannot detract from what Moyes has done and would not dream of it. 2 glaring deficiencies though, he can't buy players outside of the bargain basement and his (our) team play like shitbags. We play not to lose a match rather than to win a match. Maybe Venebles like figure to attract players and help coaching...and all will fall into place, as long as we keep turning the kids out and hold on to them.

Why the furore over a possible transfer of jags , we sold the finest player ever produced by E F C to the mancs at the time we were told by the chairman it was to enable the club to survive, greedy arse Lescott was the same.Give Jags his due he wants to stay but financially we need to sell, and give moysie room to manouvre in the market with .some of the fee, loans etc he has done it since he arrived and he will do it again, of course we should be sad to see jags go but come on get real this iswhat is now required for the greater good of the club

Quite frankly, we HAVE to sell players, and for it to be worthwhile it will have to be our better players as they are on higher wages and command a higher transfer fee. It's not ideal, but it's realistic to our plight. I'd hate to see Baines, Ross or Felli leave, but anyone else that can command a high enough fee I wouldn't be too bothered about. I know people will say it will make no sense to sell our better players and replace them with inferior players, but Moyes has done this before and we are now talking about these 'inferior' players as our 'better' players. At the end of the day football is a business and that comes first, unfortunately. Moyes is the manager and he has to work with what he's got and find ways to progress, and the only way is to sell big and buy small.

Once again it all comes back to the integrity of our board. If they just told us how much the banks are looking for then I cannot imagine a single Everton fan that would have a problem with that, but of course they wont. Its just like Jeffers and Ball all over again. Manouvre the players out the door to cover the boards own incompetence. We are not delusional like our beloved neighbours nor are we fickle like several other clubs fans. We will support the club anyway we can, just dont treat us like shit or worse like we are stupid.

Bluemojo, you have a point. If the bank foreclosed and we had to sell for example 4 first team players, and we had to send a load of kids out on the field, it would galvanise us I think. The backs to the wall, never say die attitude would come to the fore and the fans would turn out in their droves. We'd be everyone's 2nd favourite club and we would have a serviceable debt and the ability to generate transfer funds under our own steam.

Wake up and smell the coffee - we're £45m in debt and the bank wants it's money. If Arsenal bid £15m, we take it, simple. If they want Arteta for £10m and Cahill for £7m, we take that too. Until we clear the debt, we aren't going anywhere. The test of a good manager is the ability to rebuild, look at SAF. As Moyes said, everyone's for sale.

I'd like to think that no-one will leave but it is inevitable that we will lose one of our crown jewels in the next week. My personal view is sell Fellaini. He's going to leave us soon enough anyway and we have plenty of cover in his position. Alright, he's the best centre mid weve got but Rodwell may well develop better without Fellaini, either that or sell Rodwell....go on then...start the outrage........just not Baines or Jagielka

#2 Sell Jags and replace him with Heitinga Kael? Championship here we come then! #1 No, I think is the answer Fellaini's Afro. Things aren't that bad y'know folkes, remember when we had Preki, Ward, Barlow and Brett Angel in the starting 11? Now that was a bad time for us Evertonians; still it's scant consolation when we have footballing millionnaires simply not trying for our glorious club.

Any of you saying yes to selling Jags are quite frankly IDIOTS!!!

By the way I'd sell Jags, Arteta, Saha, Billy, Heitinga, Hopefully that could wipe the 45mill, look at the kids we have to step in to these shoes, Barkley / Baxter - Arteta Duffy / Dier / Mustafi - Jags Vellios / Silva / Hallam Hope (future one) - Saha Forshaw / Gueye - Billy Wallace / Lundstrom (again Future) - Heitinga and out of that list Billy and Heitinga aren't even regular first teamers. I'm actually beginning to convince my self that everything will be fine and rosy and a cup is on its way. COYB

If our finance are as dire as people are talking about and the bank is calling the debt in, then I don't see any other way to pay them back but to sell players. At nearly 30 18m for Jags has to be looked at and with the way Rodders is playing in midfield at the moment maybe Moyes knows what he's talking about when he keeps saying the lads a defender. Everton football club is bigger then any one player and if we need to sell a few players to wipe the debt then so be it. I'm thinking it might be time for a fresh team to be blooded anyway when you look at the age of our first team and we do have a few decent kids. Horrible time for us blues my heart says no to this but my head says what else is there to do..........unless anyone knows a billionaire who doesn't mind wasting a few 100million just to get us up to standard.

Kenwright will give Moyesy about £10m and bang the rest to Barclays to keep them happy. Will he do that because 'it's the right thing to do'?No.He will do it in the hope of keeping us happy and keeping the club his.Assuming that this despicable sale does happen.I sincerely hope it doesn't.

I don't think the club could afford to refuse a bid in the region of £18-20m for Jags..However, if he goes it has to be on the strict understanding that at least half the money will be spent on bringing someone in..The rest can be used to pay off some of the debt..

More to the point how much would Moyes get to spend? Would he spend it wisely? With the exception of City and Chelsea every player at every club in England has there price, end of. Look at Ronaldo at Utd, he had won several titles the CL, league cup and FA cup yet he still wanted to leave. Arsenal as noted above have consistently secured CL qualification yet they cannot keep hold of there players and Spurs had a decent run in the CL last season, narrowly missed out this season and yet the likes of Modric has stated his desire to leave. Why do some fans think we are unique? There is talk of Arsenal wanting Arteta aswell as Jagielka for 25 million. Sunderland being prepared to part with 10 million for Cahill. If Moyes was allowed to spend around 30 million of that, and he spent well, (which is debatable!) then that could genuinely do wonders for that team. Defour,Weitzel and a striker and we would be looking at genuinely competing for a CL place.

If I had the choice I would keep him, however, if there is money to be had ( and I will assume the majority of the cash is to be re-invested) the order in which I would sell would be : 1) Rodwell 2) Arteta 3) Jagjielka 4) Fellaini for no less than £30 million 5) Baines for no less than £30 million. It would kill me to see the last two on my list leave ! I think we would get by without the first three and their inconsistent displays . . . . as long as we strengthened the team with the proceeds !! It would kill me to see the last two on my list leave ! We could quite easily get by without the inconsistent form of the first three on my list. . . . as long we strengthened the team with the cash generated !

Moyes has came out and said that if a bid is big enough he will sell, as he doesn't want his stubbornness to put Everton in more financial trouble. I honestly think that if an 18mil bid came in we should accept it! His price will only drop from here on and the club needs what they can now to allow us to lend in the future.

I think it all depends on whether Arsenal go through tonight on how much cash they'll be spending. Up the Udinese!

The thing is though could we buy someone of the same quality with the '15m' apparently being bid, and another player too improve the squad? I dont think so, jags is a future captain at goodison and if he jumps to the sinking emirates ship then so be it, i wouldnt boo him when he returned to goodison. Id take 25m, but that wouldnt happen (due to lescotts selling price) IMWT

'Can we afford to say no?' in short yes. Why sell our best centre back then buy shite to replace him with, because let's face it we aren't going to get all of the £18m to spend. Just keep the squad we have, and get one or two frees or loan signings, with the wages paid for by the sale of Yobo!

I love the lad to bits, he has given so much to Everton and he plays with his heart on his sleeve, but 29 and an offer 15m+ in our situation how could you say no. If he does go Rodwell may drop into centre back and finnaly find his position. Otherwise we gamble keeping jags and hopefully finish with Europe this season.

I would sell Jags for £18m then play Heitinga along with Distin.

If he's going to be sold will Moyes get any of the cash from the sale?
