Former Everton player Gary Ablett has died at the age of 46.
Gary signed for Everton from neighbours Liverpool in January 1992 for £750k. Gary played 128 league games and won a FA Cup winners medal in 1995. The only player ever to win the FA Cup with both Merseyside teams.
A statement from the LMA, said: 'On behalf of Gary Ablett's family the LMA has today confirmed that Gary passed away peacefully last night following a hard fought 16 month battle against non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
'Respected throughout the game by players, coaches and managers alike Gary will be sadly missed. The LMA's thoughts and condolences are with Gary's wife Jacqueline and children.'

R.I.P. Gary. Of all the memories, especially Elland Road, I'll never forget a shot you had against Southampton '95, with Beasant in goal, Park End, I was right behind it, you didn't half whack it, going right in the top corner it was, only for a super save from Beasant.....true professional who never gave less than 100%. Great memories Gary! I hope the fans chant your name the next home game. One Gary Ablett, there's only one Gary Ablett.

When both clubs get their act together and build their new stadia it would be a great idea for statues for players who represented both clubs populating the park between us.
Gary represented everything that is good about our game, fair , honest and hard working.
RIP Gary and thanks for the memories.

Merseyside has lost one of its footballing sons at an age which defies belief,46 is far too young to pass on. Such a waste of a talented man but the great memories you have given to us blues will not fade with time. The saddest of news today , met Gary on pre-season switzerland 92/93. Our eldest was in hospital in 95, Gary gave me his number to arrange a visit , went out of his way to come down to Oswestry and when visiting made a great day for some very unfortunate children. Spent the whole day making a point of speaking to each and every one of them and making them feel important , met a few times afterwards and was always happy to spend time and chat, could never thank him enough for the impression he left with everyone there , sometimes there is no justice for people to suffer such a horrid illness , nil satis Gary one of a few I give honest respect to, god bless your family , they have your memories to hold on to

I was shocked when I read on text on tv, that Gary Ablett had passed away. He was one of the best defenders we had and played an important role in the games that led us to Wembley and not forgetting the F.A. Cup final itself, on that historic day in 1995 of when we won. He was a legend in his own right and such a nice guy and will be missed and remembered and never shall be forgotten by Everton and Liverpool fans. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family at this sad time.
