Albert Johnson R.I.P.
R.I.P. Albert Johnson

The clubs oldest former living player Albert Johnson sadly passed away this week.

Albert would have been 91 next month and he played for the Blues in the mid to late 1940's with the likes of Ted Sagar, Harry Catterick and Joe Mercer.

Albert played nine times in the Royal Blue shirt with his debut coming on Christmas Day 1946 in a 4-1 win against Derby County.

Our deepest condolences go to Albert's family and friends and his funeral will take place at St Bede's Roman Catholic Church, Weaverham, Northwich on Friday 1st July at 11am.

I taught at St Nicholas High School for a couple of years in the early 1980's. I did not realise that I was living and working in the " stamping ground" of a great Evertonian. Very sad to read that our oldest former player has passed away - one that but for the war would have played many more times for the club. We tend these days to forget the sacrifices that Albert's generation had to make to preserve the liberties that we enjoy and sadly take for granted.
