Everton v Man Utd / FA Cup Final / May 20th 1995 / Wembley / Att: 79,592 Everton: Southall, Jackson, Unsworth, Ablett, Watson, Hinchcliffe, Limpar, Parkinson, Horne, Stuart, Rideout. Subs: Ferguson (Rideout 51), Amokachi (Limpar 69). Scorer: Rideout (30) Who can remember the last time Everton and Man ure met in the FA Cup. Of course it was the Final in 1995, when we were all ten years younger, had hair and could handle our ale. Paul Rideout went into the annals of Everton folklore when his header past the Great Dane Peter Schmeichel, brought the Cup back to Goodison for the first time in eleven years. 30,000 plus Everton fans piled into the Wembley we all knew and loved, to watch Everton disappoint the critics, and take the Cup from the holders, and arguably the best team in the country at that time. Heroes were a plenty on the Wembley turf that day, with the likes of Joe Parkinson putting 'the guvnor' on his arse early in the match. Who will ever forget veteran keeper Big Nev, performing heroics in the Blues sticks to claim his second FA Cup Winners medal. Diamond Geezer who will eternally kick himself for not getting the winning goal, when his header crashed off the bar, Unsey shackling top striker Mark Hughes all match. Big Dunc and Ammo getting onto the turf to make their dreams become a reality in playing in a Cup Final. So lets remember as we face United this weekend, that ten years ago this May no one apart from the boys in Blue gave us a hope in hell. Ten years on, our paths cross again. Injuries, suspensions, a threadbare squad, against the multi millionaires of Manchester. Come on you Blue Boys (17/02/05) |
