Blackpool 1, Everton 2 / April 13th 1963

Everton: West, Parker, Meagan, Harris, Gabriel, Labone, Scott, Stevens, Young, Morrisey.

Scorers: Scott, Young

Help! It's all gone dark:-)) I can remember going to the game and the venue but I'm jiggered if I can remember the result, or who it was against.

It was early 60's and I was 5 or 6 and I remember being in the car going up the East Lancs and then the motorway to Blackpool-is this right? At the game the crowd were shouting Pickering and I didn't know who he was, I got scared in the crush when we scored and after being passed overhead to the front spent most of the game on the touchline leaning against the wall. I think we won 2-0.

I can remember the vividness of the Blue shirts-a real ROYAL BLUE-and the contrast with the white shorts they looked like gods. Even now I still love the moment they come out of the tunnel to Z cars even if I do appear to be kidding myself. Andy (30/08/04)

Everton 4, Aston Villa 1 / FA Cup 3rd Round / 7th Jan 1978 / Atten: 46,320

Everton: Wood, Darracot, Lyons, Pejic, Higgins, Ross, King, Dobson, Latchford, McKenzie, Thomas

Scorers: King, Ross (pen), McKenzie, Latchford

I'd appreciate some help in filling in the gaps in my memory for my first game at castle Goodison. It was an FA Cup 3rd or 4th round tie against Villa in Jan 1978 (I was 9 yrs old at the time). I can recall the subtle aromas of horseshit and hotdogs outside the ground and being overawed by the size of the crowd.
As for the match itself, went in the paddock. I think I can remember McKenzie as being one of our scorers. I can remember Herbie bombing up our left wing. I deffo remember that Andy Gray scored for Villa but we were already 4-0 up and the match finished 4-1. Everton has been the most constant thing in my life since that day. Mick (24/08/04)

Everton : West, Wright, Mc Laughlin, Kendall, Kenyon, Scott, Johnson, Ball, Royle, Hurst, Whittle

Scorers: Royle (4), Johnson (3), Ball

Nine years old and my first trip to Goodison with my sister and her boyfriend (now my brother-in-law). Not having a colour T.V. it was my first glimpse of Royal Blue and Alan Ball's red hair. 5-0 at half time and wondering if we would get another five in the second half. The Gladwys street singing we want nine after the eighth goal went in.

My brother in law's Dad gave me a glass of rum to warm me up back at his house after the game, but I was already drunk with love for Everton and I have remained intoxicated ever since. Gary McDonald , Now in Jersey (17/08/04)

Sat in the main stand with me dad, and must have been 6 or 7 years old.
We got beat, I cried , went to pub and me dad got pissed. I had crisps, massive bags then and lemo.
My love affair with the blues began at that point. It was a sat 3pm game, very cold and wintry. Will never forget it ever. Kev Perkes (01/08/04)

Everton 2, Arsenal 0 / December 31st 1977 / Attendance :47,035

Everton: Wood, Darracot, Pejic, Lyons, Kenyon, Ross, King, Dobson, Latchford, McKenzie, Thomas

Scorers: Latchford, Ross

After reading last weeks first match, it brought back some memories of my own, which was around the same era. We played Arsenal on a very cold and pissing down Winters day. Although the game itself is very hazy, I shall never forget it, as it was on New Years Eve. All my dad went on about all game, was my Uncle Jim's party, later that night. Its funny things you remember when you are a kid, and with me, it was Pat Jennings in the Arsenal goal. I was in the Lower Bullens, thinking it was the best place to be , not realising then, that you can actually see the game better, anywhere else in the ground. At some point in the game, one of the Everton players tried to chip Jennings, and with one hand, the size of a shovel, he picked the ball out of the air, like it was a cricket ball. The crowd as one applauded the keeper for an absolute act of genius.

Sounds daft after all these years, but I can't remember who scored our the goals, but I remember we won 2-0. If you could dig out the scorers, it might make the memory of my first game at Goodison a bit clearer. Cheers, keep up the good work. Great site lads (Steve Proctor, Queensferry 06/07/04)

Latch The Snatch

Everton 4, Newcastle 4 / Oct 29th 1977 / Attendance: 37,647

Everton: Wood, Jones, Pejic, Lyons, Higgins, Rioch, King, Dobson, Latchford, Pearson, Thomas.

Scorers: Latchford (2), Lyons, Pejic.

My first game, was in late 1977, when I was about ten or eleven. We played Newcastle in an absolute classic, which ended up 4-4. My hero at the time was George Wood, please don't laugh, as this was before Big Nev's time. Ally McLeod the late Scottish manager was there to run the eye over him for the Scotland squad, and he had an absolute nightmare. My dad took me into the Goodison Road, Enclosure, not realising that, that is where all the fuckin' loonies stood. The Latch saved the day if I remember with a hat trick, as we were on the back foot all the match due to George's clangers. Needless to say George never went to Argentina with Ally's army, but that was me hooked on Everton for life. Another hero of mine, who I met in later life, played that day, and it was Dave Thomas. He was one of the most gifted wingers I ever saw play, and Latch must be grateful to have played in the same team as him, as his service was incredible. Great site lads, keep up the fantastic work (Mike, Aintree 28/06/04)
