West Ham 2 Everton 3 / August 24th 1974 / Att: 22,486

Everton: Lawson, Darracott, Seargeant, Clements, Lyons, Hurst, Buckley, Harvey, Royle, Latchford, Connolly

Scorers: Royle (pen), Latchford, Harvey

This is not my first match, but my first away game following my beloved Blues. I remember it like yesterday, I was 17, and I faught like f*ck with my dad to let me go. He kept telling me West Ham was not the place to go for my first away game, but I was 17 going on 37, and I knew everything. My endearing memory was running like mad from the Hammers fans, and if I am honest now, bricking myself, but putting a brave face on it then.

The game I cannot remember much. I knew we won 3-2, but the goal scorers pass me by now, no doubt Latch was on the score sheet. Carried on for many years travelling with the Blues home and away, but now live in Cambridge, and sorry to say have not seen them for a good few years. Thank God for Sky.

Top Site, keep up the good work

How Much Would That Trio Be Worth Today

Everton 3 QPR 1 / May 12th 1984 / Att: 20,679

Everton: Southall, Stevens, Harper, Ratcliffe, Mountfield, Reid, Steven, Heath, Sharp, Gray, Richardson.

Scorers: Heath, Sharp (2)

My first match came when I was eight, against QPR, and it was the week before the 1984 FA Cup Final. Me 'al fella took me to the game, as compensation for not taking me to the Final. He pissed off down to London with his mates on the ale, I would do the same now if we got to a Final, my lad is three though. What I remember most about my first visit to Goodison was the low attendance a week before the Final. In those days the FA Cup was bigger than winning the League. Was happy to say got my dream in 1995, when I went down to Wembley with me mates to watch us do the Mancs.

My fave player at the time was Peter Reid, to me he was class. If you could find the attendance out for me, it would be superb.

Everton 5 Aston Villa 0 / August 31st 1982 / Att:24,026

Everton: Southall, Burrows, Bailey, Higgins, Wright, McMahon, Irvine, Heath, Sharp, King, Sheedy.

Scorers: Heath (2), King, Sharp (2)

My first match was against Aston Villa in the early 80's. We won 5-0 or 5-1 with Inchy scoring twice. That was when my love affair with the Blues started, and I have had many laughs and tears along the way. Undoubtedly the best night I had at Goodison was the memorable Bayern Munich evening, and the Wimbledon match will live with me for the sheer adrenaline rush, but I never want to go through it again. Top site lads.

A Double For Inchy

Everton 5 Finn Harps 0 / 26th Sept 1978 / UEFA Cup 1st Rd 2nd Leg

Everton: Wood, Darracott, Pejic, Lyons, Wright, Ross, King, Dobson,Latchford, Walsh, Thomas

Scorers: Dobson, King, Latchford, Ross, Walsh

This was not my first match, but my first European match, and I thought it apt, with the forthcoming Bucharest game in mind. It was 1978, or thereabouts, and we beat an Irish side called Finn Harps ten nil on aggregate. It was five in Ireland, and five at Goodison. I was eleven at the time, and I thought it was going to be a sell out, but the ground was half empty, with us already holding a five nil lead.

Still in them days, the team took a bit of stick, but I remember regularly qualifying for the UEFA Cup for a few seasons, and that was the European Trophy to win in them days.

Live in South Africa now, but I shall always remember great times visiting Goodison, and one day I shall return. Top site lads, keep up the good work.

Everton 3 Bolton 2 / 28th December 1997 / Att:37,149

Everton: Mhyre, Thomas, Hinchcliffe, Ball, Dunne, Tiler, Farrelly, Barmby, Ferguson, Oster, Cadamarteri

Scorers: Ferguson (3)

My first real match was when the mighty Blues of Everton beat Bolton 3-2, and I think my hero Big Dunc got a hat trick of headers. It was amazing to see my hero live up to his reputation and score all three. When Dunc scored I went mad I was in dreamland then 2 and 3 and I was so happy. The happiest moment of my life!

Hat Trick For The Big Man

Derby 2, Everton 3 / Baseball Ground / April 16th 1977

Everton: Davies, Robinson, Pejic, Lyons, Mc Naught, King, Rioch, Hamilton, Dobson, Latchford, Mc Kenzie, Goodlass.

Scorers: Latchford, Mc Kenzie, Goodlass

Being brought up in Devon, there wasn't much opportunity to catch the boys in action, until I went to visit my grandparents in the Midlands. My fellow Toffee cousin and I jumped on the train to Derby for our first match. We could only get tickets in the Derby end and got lots of stick when Latch had a goal disallowed for offside in the first few minutes. From then on Derby took control in the mudbath at the old Baseball Ground and went 2-0 up at half time.

Gordon Lee must have given a rousing half time talk as the lads came out second half and took Derby apart, to win 3-2. I seem to remember Mike Pejic getting the winner. Lots of great memories from following the Blues round the country in the 80s but you always remember "the first one". Once a Blue always a Blue. KP. (03/09/05)

Latch The Snatch. Didn't You Just Love Him

Everton 2-0 Aston Villa / 19th August 1961 / Att: 52,292

Everton: Dunlop, Parker, Thompson, Gabriel, Labone, Meagan, Bingham, Collins, Young, Vernon and Fell.

Scorers: Bingham, Young

I remember my first game at Goodison vividly. First game of a new season it was a glorious summer’s day. It was the highest attendance in the country on the opening day of the season a near full house. I was standing with a school pal against the wall next to the players tunnel.

I was an impressionable 10 year old at the time and my friend and I walked to the ground from Huyton (saving our bus fair for sweets and a programme which I still have). I think we set out about 6am? My friend had been a couple of times before with his dad but for me this was my first game which I will never forget. I do remember Everton playing well and Villa poorly. The Villa’s keeper Sidebottom was outstanding.

The one thing that did stand out to me in this game though was the performance of the Villa Centre forward Derek Dougan, Yul Brynner hair style et.al he absolutely oozed sheer class and charisma, best header of a ball I ever saw (that includes Alex Young and Wyn Davis). Dougan was absolute magic.
Needless to say I there after became a great fan of “The Doogs” and followed his career with great interest over the years and I still collect memorabilia pertaining to him to this day great great memories why o why did Everton never sign him. Philip McCrudden

The Golden Vision The Secomd

Everton 1, Tottenham 4 / August 25th 1984 / Att:35,630

Everton: Southall, Stevens, Bailey, Ratcliffe, Mountfield, Reid, Steven, Heath, Sharp, Bracewell, Richardson

Scorer: Heath (Pen)

My first game was the start of the 1984 season after winning the FA cup,
which was paraded around the pitch before kick-off. I was amazed by the
stadium and spent most of the day looking around going 'Wow!', we were
sat in the Gwladys Street upper stand and it was amazing. The game
started well with my favourite player Adrian 'Inchy' Heath slotting home
a penalty. But that was the only thing to cheer about as we were well
beaten by goals from John Chedozie.

The one thing I will never forgot from the day was walking around the ground at the end of the game talking to me dad about the game, I mentioned the scorer Chedozie had scored 2 goals and me old fella said 'well son, he wasn't very dozy today, was he!!' absolute comic genius, well it was at the time, I was only 8.

We might well of got beaten that day but I was to enjoy a championship winning season as I was taken to lots more games that year.
Thus starting my love affair with the Blue boys!!

Inchy Scored

FA Cup Was Paraded That Day

Everton 3 Chelsea 4 / December 22nd 1984 / Att: 29,887

Everton: Southall, Stevens, Bailey, Ratcliffe, Mountfield, Reid, Steven, Gray, Sharp, Bracewell, Sheedy

Scorers: Sharp (2), Bracewell.

My late grandad took me to my first blues game after I'd got hooked at school on the Isle of Man as a 9 year old lad (My Dad is not into football so my loyalties were formed late on). I remember going mental in our old lounge listening to 1485am Radio Merseyside to THE Kevin Brock backpass for Oxford that Inchy latched onto and slotted which was THE turning point!!

I was really excited to be going to my first blues match, I remember the place seemed massive and the escalators went up for ever! We must have been in the main stand.

Game itself wasn't that great as I think Kerry Dixon got a hatrick for them and by the time we were 4-1 down, my grandad decided to leave early to avoid the traffic.

Of course, in the last few minutes Sharpy scored a couple (one a pen?) as we listened to the roar from outside the ground.. Gutted. Never ever, ever, ever have I left a game early after that (even despite some of the dross games I've seen)

Still manage now to get over for a few games a season, made it to the Arse couple of seasons ago 2-1, which was bloody brilliant atmosphere, and then the last home game a few seasons back where we spanked the Hammers 6-0 and Super got a hatrick. Also saw the 4-0 vs Leeds with Watto's hatrick, so we do pick some good ones!

Keep up the good work, fantastic site
