6 Coventry 0 / November 26th 1977 / Att: 43,309
Everton:
Wood, Jones, Pejic, Lyons, Higgins, Buckley,
King, Dobson, Latchford, Pearson, Thomas
Scorers:
Latchford (3), Dobson, Pearson,
King
Taken
by my Dad to Goodison during 1977, playing against Coventry City,
Bob Latchford scored a Hat-Trick on the way to a 6-0 win. All
I can remember was being totally in awe of the bright lights,
the size of the stadium and the shear noise. We were sat in the
Park End stand, because my dad want to take me to the quiet bit,
being only 6 years old! And I assume it had a wooden terraces,
I can remember the noise of people banging with their feet. Cant
remember any of the team except Latchford.

2 Chelsea 1 / February 26th 1966
Everton:
West, Wright, Wilson, Gabriel, Labone, Harris, Scott, Young, Pickering,
Harvey, Temple
Scorers:

I
can remember being taken up the endless stairs in the old Goodison
Road stand by my Dad. We were a little late so the crowd were
already singing. I blinked and missed the first Everton goal but
I certainly heard the noise.
Most
of my attention was taken by the sheer size and sounds of the
place. I learnt a few new words at the age of 9. In the second
half Chelsea equalised and the last half hour was end to end passing
football. Alex Scott our number 7 was not having the best of games
and so I thought it was very unfair (9 year-old loigic!) that
he was being given so much stick.
Derek
temple scored our winner with the last kick of the game-imagine
the noise! Unforgettable; and Liverpool (the shite) lost that
day, having Ian St John sent off.

Everton
0-0 Queens Park Rangers / September 6th 1986 / Att 30,173
Everton: Mimms,
Harper, Power, Ratcliffe, Watson, Langley, Steven, Heath, Sharp,
Adams, Sheedy
My first match watching Everton was at home to QPR in 1986 aged
7 in the Gwladys Street. The only time I remember standing up
at the famous end. I remember sharing a a metal bar with another
kid sat on top so we could see the game and my twin crying because
he couldn't see anything.
All
I remember about the game was Adrian heath going clean through
and hitting it straight at the QPR keeper at the Gwladys St End.
I was upset because i didn't see the Blues score but that feeling
has stood me in good stead for the rest of my Evertonian life.

Everton
4 West Ham 0 / April 11th 1987 / Att: 35,731
Everton:
Southall, Stevens, Power, Ratcliffe, Watson, Reid, Steven, Heath,
Clarke, Harper, Sheedy
Scorers:
Clarke, Reid, Stevens, Watson
My
first match was at Goodison against West Ham around 87-89 not
sure exactly but I was 7-9. I think it was 4-0 to the blues. A
Scottish 'friend' of my ma took me and my elder brother and got
us seats (they still had terraces) on the half-way line, so we
got a great view.
As part of the deal we had to accept celtic scarves off him as
gifts (small price to pay we felt). From what I can remember it
was pretty one-sided and it was capped off (I think) by a long-range
beaut from Peter Reid. If you could flesh out the details though,
that'd be great.
Keep
up the good work, especially the humour and let's hope for 4-0
again
this season!

Everton
3 Coventry 0 / League Cup / October 26th 1976
Everton:
Davies,
Darracott, Jones, Lyons, McNaught, Kenyon, King, Dobson, Latchford,
Goodlass, Telfer
Scorers:
King (2), Lyons
You'll
have to check details for me but I think it was 1976 and an evening
kick off in the League cup. I think we beat Coventry 4-0 with
George Telfer on the scoresheet. I was 9 years old.
The match/score/team etc is a bit fuzzy but other things are crystal
clear. Firstly the excitement when my Dad picked me up from school
and told me we were going. Then the journey to the ground from
my home in Bolton, seeing the traffic steadily get thicker and
thousands of people all heading in the same direction. I remember
the smells, the hot dog stands, the stale booze, the laughter
and getting jostled by the crowds.
We got inside and I could hear a crowd but couldn't see one we
headed up some stairs (we were in the upper tier of the Park End
I think) and I remember seeing an entrance up some stairs where
there were bright lights and where the noise was coming from.
The very first time I got to the top of the stairs and saw the
Goodison Park pitch bathed in light was magical. I'd never seen
a floodlit game before, even on telly.
I can't remember much of the match, I was too busy taking it all
in. Watching my Dad shake his head when various choice chants
were going up like 'You're gonna get your f**king heads kicked
in' etc etc.
I remember standing next to some big men in the toilets at half
time having a piss and thinking how brave I was and having the
tastiest hot dog ever on the way out.
Anyway enough of me getting all misty eyed, keep up the good work
on the site lads.

Scorer:

My
first match is a bit of a blur. I was sat in the Main Stand with
my Dad and Uncle and the opposition was Coventry in the latter
part of the 1976-77 season.
Bruce Rioch put us 1 up, but with minutes to go
I seem to remember Dai Davies making a howler allowing Coventry
to equalize. It wasnt his first nor his last for us.

Everton
5 Blackpool 0 / November 10th 1962
Everton:
West,
Parker, Meagan, Gabriel, Labone, Harris, Bingham, Stevens, Young,
Vernon, Veall
Scorers:
Young
(2), Bingham, Gabriel, Stevens
My
very first match was against.... not a clue! It was around 1962,
I was about 10 and it was an evening match. It was either some
sort of European game or exhibition game or something.
The
things which stands out for me had nowt to do with the game (thats
obvious) but the whole event. Going out late at night with me
Dad and getting pushed and jostled by the crowds outside the ground,
climbing the never ending stairs in the old main stand and then
coming out into the stadium. The sight is with me to this day!
The
pitch looked miles away and the steps leading down to the seats
seemed far too steep... I remember thinking that if I didn't hold
on tight I'd go right over the edge. The floodlights were just
amazing and everything was bathed in a bright, bright light which
made the black night sky even more of a curtain.
When
Everton came out the roar made me jump about 2 feet and the team
looked fantastic. The Royal Blue shirts against the emerald green
grass was magical and that's when I fell in love. I think at half
time there was a display by some Italian performers who wore original
"olde worlde" Florentine costumes and swirled around
the biggest banners and flags I'd ever seen before... throwing
them into the air and spinning them about... a really magical
night.
My first big match proper... well the first match my Dad let me
go to on my "own" ( my mate who went with me was only
10 and I was 11 ) was against Blackpool during the 1962/63 Championship
winning season.
It
stands out for a number of reasons. I asked my big brother for
directions on how to get to Goodison and he said, "Get the
bus to Seaforth Sands, jump on the 62 and when everyone gets off...
you get off. Just follow the flow of people along the road who'll
be chanting "Everton, Everton" and you'll be OK!"
The
other reason was that we left early before the end to avoid the
rush and when I got in Dad asked, "Who scored?", when
I told him he said, "Who else??".... the Blues had scored
2 or 3 more after we'd left.
It's all a bit blurry now but I'd love to know who played, the
scorers and the attendance. Any info on the first game mentioned
would be a bonus as well.
Keep up the great work. Kayeff (29/10/05)
