Wolves 1 Everton 1 / September 9th 1971

Everton: West, Scott, Newton, Kenny, Kenyon, Darracott, Royle, Ball, Johnson, Hurst, Whittle

Scorer: Royle

Well, it was at Molineux (as my family lived in the Midlands at that time). I was watching Villa most of the time (being only 14 at the time, transport to Liverpool would have been out of the question) but a school friend's Dad invited me to go and watch Everton at Wolves and if I remember rightly, we drew 1-1. I remember it being a fine day weather wise, quite an entertaining game and good practice for controlling my emotions when sitting with the home fans. I went to watch the Blues at Birmingham the following season, but didn't see them at Villa Park (wrong division!)

I have no idea who scored and I don't know what the team was that day so it would be nice to find out.

West Ham 2 Everton 2 / Feb 13th 1995 / Att: 21,081

Everton: Southall, Barrett, Ebbrell (Limpar), Ablett, Watson, Unsworth, Horne, Stuart, Ferguson, Rideout, Hinchcliffe

Scorers: Rideout, Limpar

A bit of a late starter to watching Everton live (having been born and raised in South Africa), I found myself over in London for a year in 1995 with a mate if mine, who is also a Blue. At the earliest opportunity we went to see the Toffees, who took on West Ham at Upton Park in an evening match in about February of the 1994/95 season.

It was pouring with rain and the pitch was pretty waterlogged, but we managed a 2-2 draw after twice coming from behind. Scorer for West Ham? Tony Cottee, one of my favourite Everton players of years gone by, who got a brace! Paul Rideout squeezed one in from a tight angle to equalise the first time and then Anders Limpar made it 2-2 with a deflected shot.

I remember thinking that the sight of Big Dunc in full flight was awesome (yeah, he ran around back then!) and my mate and I tried to join in the chants, even though we had no bloody clue how they went....

Great night out that will stick with me forever......

Cheers, Nick Said, Cape Town (14/03/06)

Man United 2 Everton 5 / October 20th 1956

Everton: Dunlop, Donovan, Tansey, Birch, Jones, Farrell, McNamara, Gauld, Kirby, Fielding, Eglington

Scorers: Kirby (2), Donovan, Eglington, McNamara

I remember going to this game in the fifties when I was at school.

Can you remind me about it? I remember that Tony McNamara sent over some excellent crosses from the right wing and I think it was Bobby Charlton's home debut.

It was an unexpected result as, pre Munich, Man United had a strong side - on paper.

Everton: Davies, Bernard, McLaughlin, Clements, Mc Naught, Lyons, Jones, Pearson, Irving, Latchford, Connolly

Scorer: Clements

Hope this isn't too long to put in- got more and more nostalgic as I was typing

I think it was 74/75 season- I was 7. After badgering my Dad to take me for weeks and weeks this particular Saturday morning my Mum had been down to Garston Market and got me my blue and white scarf- "You'll need this for the game !"

I remember the excitement- I was finally going! "Who are Altrincham" I asked my Dad as we took the 82c from St Mary's Road on the first bus of the journey. I didn't recall ever seeing their name pop up on the Grandstand vidiprinter- he must have thought it was a banker for my first match!!

"Where is it Dad"- where is this magical place of my dreams- And then finally out the steamy top deck window "look... at the end of the streets"- the sheer sides of the main stand came into view, (its all coming back now). I was literally shaking with excitement.

My Dad, a smouldering woody in mouth, led me down by the arm- the smells, the crowd, the noises, other young uns' in Birmingham bags with their Dads just like me! "Watch that horse shit son" every Dad would say, and then into the ground- up the escalator. "An escalator!!"- Main Stand just behind the radio commentators- "Everton EvertoNN EvVVERRTONNN EVERTONNNNN," as the chant began to go round the the ground. Oh yes I belted my little lungs out- sausage roll in hand as the team took to the pitch.

What was that tune over the tannoy?- I didn't know but it made me shake more as my Dad gave me that reassuring look and a wink. The royal blue shirts- the shorts and socks- so white. The lights blazing down through the gathering fog (I'm certain it was foggy) it did not matter everything was amazing and I was there at last. The score, I think it was 1-1.

3 full seasons later we moved up to Scotland and the games became special occasions (FA Cup final v Watford- the finest day of my Everton life!) Though the memories fade- the love will never die- God bless you Dad- John Edward Hanley 1928-2005

Everton 2 Wolves 2 / March 25th 1972

Everton: West, Scott, Mc Laughlin, Kendall, Kenyon, Newton, Wright, Buckley, Royle, Lyons, Morrissey

Scorers: Lyons, Kendall

I started going the match in March 1972 (Wolves at home, 2-2), just before my fourth birthday as we were playing out a February-to-an-end-of-season sequence of one win in 16, including a 4-0 thrashing at the shite.

I think my mum was working and so it was either take me or miss the match for my dad.

On the way to the match I was in the front seat and messing about and ended up opening the door - falling out and twating my head.

My dad gave me the magic sponge (he wasn't going to miss the match) and we headed to the old supporter's club on city road.

I spent few seasons in the corridor looking at the old pictures of players, (I'm not sure if kids were allowed in the main lounge which was a mass of pissed up old fellas and a fog of smoke), or upstairs watching the lads playing pool. At least I wasn't left outside with the proverbial pop and crisps.

I also got given a signed picture of Roger Kenyon scoring against Palace in the Cup sometime that season in the supporters club, can't remember who off.

Can't remember a thing about the game, but in English we had to do a diary and a picture of our weekends and mine were always 'went to the match with my dad...' along with a piss-poor picture of a player, all barely indestinguishable bar a defining feature, such as Andy King's wristbands or Martin Dobson's curls.
