Everton 1, Aston Villa 3 February 28th 1981/Attendance 31,434

Everton: Hodge, Ratcliffe, Bailey, Wright, Lyons, Ross, Megson, Eastoe, Varadi, Hartford, O’Keefe.

Scorer: Ross (pen)

Linny in Colorado remembers his first game as a three one thumping by Champions elect Aston Villa, at Goodison in 1981. The goal Linny refers to by Tony Morley, was indeed the BBC’s Goal of The Season, as Villa went on to pip Ipswich to the title that year. Oh the times when other clubs won the League!!!

My first match was 1981 (I think) against Aston Villa. The old man had
taken my brother to see the shite a couple of times and then it was my turn. I remember just how feckin' huge the ground was (how times change), how noisy and being confused by the sign 'do not throw missiles'- who would take something for shooting down aeroplanes to a football match? Anyway, it was 3-1 to Villa; I think it was Tony Morley who scored a great goal running down the left wing and them smashing it over a leaping Martin Hodge. Turned out to be goal of the season. The only other memory I have, was the Villa supporters (we were in the Lower Bullens near the away fans) chanting "on the dole, on the dole, on the dole" in our general direction. I guess there was a recession on at the time. Don't remember any of out other players but I guess it might have been Latchford, Dobson, Megson, Eastoe, Lyons, Jones, and King et al

Everton 3, Southampton 0. 31st March 1987/ Attendance: 26,564

Everton : Southall, Van Den Hauwe, Stevens, Watson, Ratcliffe, Power, Heath, Snodin, Steven, Clarke, Reid

Scorers: Wright (og-Kopite Prick), Power, Watson.

My first game I remember was something every fan would love to do. March 1987, just before my 7th birthday, my Grandad (a Comissionair at the club at the time) wangled it for me to be mascot for the home game against Southampton. Sat in the Main Stand with all my family, and we won 3-0 with Paul Power, Dave Watson and Wayne Clarke (I think) getting the goals for us. I don't remember much of the game, but beforehand I got a tour of Goodison and led the team out with Ratters on to the pitch. I put a clinical finish past Big Nev from about 2 yards (I am adamant that he didn't let it in). Anyway I met all the team after the match - Bracewell and Sheeds, who I think had broken legs at the time and I remember Alan Harper hobbling over for a photo as well. Got pic's took with all the team and Howard and Colin Harvey really looked after us. Got to keep the kit and a shit Southampton pennant and a video of the day/ name in programme. An all round class first time at Goodison, sorted out by my Grandad - a man who chucked Elton 'Sausage Jockey' John out of the players lounge in 1985.

Everton 5, Boro' 0. 17th February 1999/ Attendance 31,606

Everton: Myhre, Dunne, Materazzi, Unsworth, Weir, Hutchinson, Barmby, Grant, Dacourt, Jeffers, Bakayoko

Scorers: Barmby (2), Dacourt, Materazzi, Unsworth

The first match I went to was in November or December 1998, when we played Middlesborough. We won 5-0 and I cant remember the squad but I remember Gazza was playing for Boro!! It was an unbelievable night for me, the best night I have ever had. I wasnt really into football at the time, and only went because of my dad who supported Everton. Since that match I have never looked back. I'm a blue 4 life!!!

Everton 2, Aston Villa 2. 20th August 1994/ Attendance: 35,552

Everton: Southall, Jackson, Watson, Ablett, Unsworth, Limpar, Samways, Stuart, Ebbrell, Cottee, Rideout.

Scorers: Stuart, Rideout.

My first Everton game was the Everton v Villa game in 1994. We had travelled up from South Wales to watch and were staying in the Adelphi overnight (very plush for a 14 year old). It was the first game of the new season after we had beaten Wimbledon to stay up and we were full of hope for the game and looking forward to seeing our hero Big Nev and new signing Vinny Samways from Spurs for £2.2m.

We had tickets for the Park End which was brand new and it did feel strange to be sitting in the end we had always though of as the away end, but I quickly noticed that Villa (noisy bastards!) were in the Bullens Road stand to our right.

The game itself whizzed by - Graham Stuart gave us the lead with a nice chip then I think Fash the Bash equalised for them on his debut. Paul Rideout scored at the Gwladys St for 2-1 but Saunders made it 2-2. Not a bad performance and I would never have guessed it would take us till November to win a game, still we ended the season with the cup so not bad !

Great day out, great city and I have been back loads of times since. Once a blue always a blue.

Everton 3, Luton 1. 9th May 1987/ Attendance: 44,092

Everton: Southall, Stevens, Van Den Hauwe, Ratcliffe, Watson, Reid, Steven, Heath, Sharp, Snodin, Harper.

Scorers: Steven (T) (2 Pens), Sharp.

My first match is the source of much shame and embarrassment, and above all regret. I cannot remember the exact date off hand except to say that it was May 1987. As a confused 6 year old yet to discover the beautiful game I was taken to Goodison by my Dad and Grandad to watch the Blues lift the League Championship. I was completely and utterly uninterested! Psycho Pat had clinched the title the week before at Norwich and we were playing Luton for fun in the last game of the season. We were sat in the Park End which was housing home fans for the day (plenty of room, what with Lutons 7 away fans!) The match is a complete blur, although I do have a vivid image of the sheer amount of green grass I saw. My dad recalls me being more interested in the pigeons housed in the roof of the stand than watching Rats, Reidy and co lift the league championship. Luton were defeated 3-1. It was another couple of years before I was hooked on all things Everton, and although I still take some kind of pride from the fact that I have (technically) seen Everton lift the League Championship. It is now sixteen years later and not a sniff of a Championship win since, so that day back in 87 when I was more concerned about getting home to play with my train set is still the source of much regret. FA Cup Final 1985

Everton 0, Man United 1 (AET)

Attendance: 100,000 (It always was)

Carl Flint's first match was an FA Cup Final, unfortunately for us Blues, it was a losing one. We went into the match, bidding to become the first English side ever to win the Treble, having secured the title weeks earlier, and winning the Cup Winners Cup a few days earlier. Carl was twelve at the time and he will also remember the day for smashing his head on a metal bar. Serves you fuckin' right, first match, a Cup Final. I fuckin' paid £50 (A Kings Ransom in those days), for a £7 ground ticket.

Everton: Southall, Stevens, Van Den Hauwe, Ratcliffe, Mountfield, Reid, Steven, Gray, Sharp, Bracewell, Sheedy.

United: Bailey, Gidman, Albiston (Duxbury), Whiteside, McGrath, Moran, Robson, Strachan, Hughes, Stapleton, Olsen.

Referee : P. Willis.

F.A cup final 1985 vs Man Utd. I was 12 at the time and we got there about 2hrs early and was excited as fuck!! Got into Wembley and stood at the top of the stand(this was when it was all terraces)Bolted down to the front as quick as possible and SMACK straight into a metal bar you lean on! Broken nose, knocked out cold and the red twats won 1-0, Bad Start!! Great site. Carl Flint (09/03/04)

EVERTON 7 - 1 SOUTHAMPTON

Attendance: 35,669

November 16th 1996

Everton: Southall, Barrett, Hinchcliffe, Unsworth, Watson, Parkinson, Kanchelskis, Stuart, Barmby (Twat), Grant, Speed.

Goalscorers : Speed (3), Barmby (Twat), Kanchelskis(2), Stuart.

My first match at Goodison was when I was 2 and I got stuck in the turnstiles! But my first match as a child was in the season of 1996 I think, when we hammered Southampton 7-1. What a game to go to! I was in Lower Bullens and I remember the atmosphere being brilliant. I remember after the 4th goal going in the crowd went absolutely mad! I was 9 at the time. I think that was when the Saints got one back. Straight away we fired in another 3! It was brilliant seeing all my heroes at that time: Neville Southall, Andrei Kanchelskis and Big Dunc. That is a game that I will never forget, thanks for the memories Everton!! (30/01/04)
