Quality In Numbers

Injuries to key players such as Cahill, Arteta and Osman has effected Everton's form, as the players brought in to replace them have not been of the same quality. Moyesy wants the board to back him with cash so he can get in more players, but quality players.

Moyesy says: “We do need to increase in numbers. Quality will always be first priority, but quantity is also required. I want us to be strong and I want us to progress and I think that we would need to have an even stronger squad from the start of this season. I think when you lose players over a lengthy period then it affects your form. When you lose your better players it impacts.

There is no doubt that we strengthened the squad and that has shown from the performances that we have put in this season. But since January onwards there has been a little bit of a drain on us and you learn from it and hopefully we’ll do better next season.” (03/05/08)

Buy Quality

Moyesy says: "I would say that maybe we don’t need more players, just more players with quality. But I am happy with the numbers here, just that one or two have not worked or offered enough to the squad, that has effected things. We have always been looking to add to the numbers, but mainly to the quality." (06/04/07)

Young & British

Moyesy says: "When we took over at Everton it was to avoid being in the bottom six; now our buying is to be in the top six so our buying had changed a little bit. The players that we brought in to keep us out of the bottom six have gone on to prove that they can all be part of the top six. So we mustn’t look at that market and I am very keen to keep bringing in British boys. That’s why we put a lot of effort into scouting in the UK to see if we can find the right players.

I am very keen to have young players consistently come through and as we well know the Manchester United group that came through 10 years ago were well known and that helped their football club. I keep saying that if you want a game of football in the first team and you are good, we are liable to put you in the team young and early and try and get you through and we have done that.”

For many years Everton haven’t really been able to compete as closely as we’d like but we are now on the shoulders of Liverpool and a couple of other teams and we have got to try and stay there.” (27/04/08)

22. Modeste M’Bami

Everton's quest for a long term replacement for Lee Carsley may take them to Marseille. Mo (to his mates) is a defensive midfield player with 25 Cameroon International caps. The 25 year old won Olympic gold for his country in 2000. According to his agent every club is after him.

Mo's agent Jean-Christophe Thouvenel says: "There is not only Everton. I am speaking about four English clubs, that are not part of the top four but that are just behind them. Portsmouth and Manchester City are good clubs, and a Spanish club is also interested.

Marseille are interested in extending his contract by a further year, or maybe two, as they do not want to see him leaving as a free agent next year. His deal expires in June 2009. He has shown his talent in the last six months at a position in front of the defence. There are two options: he can extend his stay or move, and for him it would be logical to join an English club." There are quite a few Brazilians with the nickname 'Dudu'. Lets hope we don't get the Brazilian Coffee maker. Dudu Cearense, real name Alexandro Silva de Sousa plays midfield for Russian team CSKA Moscow. If he's played there, the climate here would be a synch. Rennes midfielder Ste (to his mates) is after a move. By the sound of it, the Cameroon International doesn't care who he goes to as long as its a move.

Ste says: "There are contacts with Manchester United, Manchester City, and in Spain there is Barcelona as well. For the moment I'm not thinking of it and I will stay with Rennes. I'll rely on people like general manager Pierre Dreossi, who knows me and my parents very well." (24/04/08)

Sheffield Wednesday are worried that if they get relegated, then they will have to unload a few players to survive. Mark(to his mates) is a 6ft 4in cultured defender who has played for England U19's. The word in Yorkshire is that Everton are favourites to secure his signature.

Mark says: "It was nice to look at newspapers and have my friends tell me that there were Premier League clubs looking at me. Some of the time I didn't believe them, but I always felt I wanted to play for Sheffield Wednesday. I didn't want to move a really big club because I think when some players move to Premier League clubs their performances dip as they might be playing in the reserves. Here I've been playing in the first-team regularly so my development can progress over the next few weeks." (20/04/08)

Speculation in the media over the weekend saying Everton would be looking at bidding for the Blackburn midfielder, could be wide of the mark. The 27 year old Republic of Ireland International has played 21 games to date and not scored a goal this season. (13/04/08)

Moyesy made a trip to Holland last night to watch Michael Bradley in action as Herenveen clashed with Ajax. Mickey ended the season with a hugely impressive eighteen golas in thirty six appearances for Herenveen as his Dutch team finished fifth in the League. Moyesy has been tracking the six foot one midfielder for a while now and a bid we are told in the region of £4m won't be far off. (06/05/08)

Mickey (to his mates) wants away from Holland and would like to join a top Premiership club.

Mickey says: "I strive to reach the highest level. It's time to make the next step. I don't think the Dutch way of playing football suits me. I see myself as a box-to-box midfielder. Apparently a journo saw that Kim had 3 kippers against his name on the site and asked the Swedish International if he fancied moving to Everton.

Kim says: “Maybe, it’s a great championship so why not? But at the moment I’m concentrating on playing in France. Lyon is a great club and I hope I stay there for a long time. It’s the first time I've heard anything about Everton's interest so I don't know actually. But why not? Why not? It’s a great club that plays at the top of the Premier League so why not? With the end of the season only two months away, Moyesy is planning already for next term, and is said to be interested in Lyon's and Sweden's left sided midfielder Kim Kallstrom. He has scored seven times for his country in fifty two appearances and this season has performed superbly for Lyon in the Champions League. Kim is 26 in August and will be coming into the prime of his career, so as they say watch this space. (19/03/08)
