Daniel Amokachi

After a starring role for Nigeria at the World Cup in 1994, Everton manager Mike Walker snapped up centre forward Daniel Amokachi from FC Bruges for £3million. After Walker’s departure in October 94, Amokachi was in and out of the Everton team; new boss Joe Royle used him mostly as a sub.

Amo did have a brief hero status at Goodison Park when he netted a brace in Everton’s 4-1 FA Cup semi-final victory over Tottenham in 1995.

Even after sending Everton to Wembley, Amokachi, a qualified lawyer could not hold a place down in the Everton team, and after another season on the periphery, was sold to Besiktas for £1.75 million in 1996.

Unfortunately for Amokachi his career went very much downhill after his move to Turkey. He needed three serious knee operations and is now a player/coach at Nasarawa United in the Nigerian Premier League.
