The Fan's View - Kings Dock Stadium Name
What
name do you think, the new stadium should be called?
e-mail Blue Kipper & your view will be published.
|
*CALL THE STADIUM ,THE PLEASUREDOME, AND NAME THE STANDS AFTER THE LEGENDS DEAN ,YOUNG, KENDALL, HARVEY ETC ETC. I WOULD ALSO NAME THE TOILETS AFTER AGENT JOHNSON SO WE COULD VENT OUR FEELINGS FOR THIS MAN BEFORE AFTER AND DURING A GAME. BOB FROM RUNCORN. (09/09/02) *the peoples arena!!!!! Tom. (09/09/02) *I
think the stadium should be called "The Blue Century Stadium"
Because of Everton's 100 years of top flight football. *I
don't think EFC should emulate Hamburger SV in the Bundesliga. They
named their new super stadium the AOL Arena, and now there is a huge
luminous blue roof on it with an AOL sign you could probably see from
Mars. What's even stranger is nearly all the seats are blue, with the
odd black one and white one. This is because, although HSV wear white
shirts, red shorts, and blue socks, they are, to the German mind, a
blue and black club... *I think a good name would be Dixie land in memorial to the goal scoring king Dixie Dean and then we could have a new anthem in the king elvis' song Dixie land very fitting for the kings dock another possibility would be The Nou Goodison to add a bit of European flair. Revo - Halifax. (09/09/02) *the new name for the new stadium should be: Goodison, Goodison stadium, kopites r gobshites, able xavier is a melon head. from Alex o'neill. (09/09/02) *I
totally disagree with having to take up the name of some stupid sponsor.
If all goes to plan & we get this new stadium it wont be altogether
our own anyway coz it will be gettin turned round for things like concerts
& *I
reckon the newground should be called "The People's Palace"
or has someone suggested that already? *I'd like it to be called Goodison Dock or Goodison Arena, Goodison is such a great name, would be shame to lose it. Kopites are gobshites. Dean. (06/08/02) *Lets not get carried away with stupid names. The new stadium (if it ever happens) should still be GOODISON PARK and the only possible variations could be NEW GOODISON PARK or simply GOODISON. Dave Barker. (06/08/02) *We
could call the new stadium 'The peoples theatre of dreams'. This way
it gets at the red 5hite, Mancs and...Bill Kenwright is sure to feel
at home. Rob. (06/08/02) *what the hell is neil,4/7/02 goin on about it should be called the mccartney stadium, my arse, that man is one of the richest in the world and he calls himself an evertonian, how much money has he gave us ? have u ever seen him at a match?and b4 i go i think the stadium should be called the waterfront stadium, gary blue4eva (06/08/02) *i
think "kings dock" sounds good enough, but if say pepsi or
coke are going to re-build the team just for *Sorry
to be a pessimist, but get used to the idea of staying at Goodison.
The new stadium will never happen..if it does I will be made up. Goodison
should be improved but have a massive empasis on heritage and uniqueness...anyone
who has ever been to Fenway Park in Boston knows being old and original
is seen as being better than the new modern stadium which all look the
same. *The name should be [THE PEOPLES STADIUM] to rub the shite up even more. TOMO(15/07/02) *mccARTney
- calling the stadium after him....? Not a cat in hell's chance now
I've seen his exhibition at the Walker. *We
now have John Lennon International Airport. Why not name the King's
Dock stadium as follows: "The McCartney Stadium" ? Politely
request Paul McCartney to kindly consider contributing, in order to
PROMOTER:"Hey
Bruce (Springsteen)! D'ya wanna play in Liverpool?" This is not tongue
in cheek, I'm very serious about it! Thanks for your time, regards,
Neil. (04/07/02) *The
new stadium name should be called, 'the Dixie dean memorial. Kopites
are gobshites. Home of the blues. *I think it should be called 'Dixie Deans Royal Blue Mersey kings peoples stadium' Or is that a bit too long. Chris. (04/07/02) *I think it should simply be called NEW GOODISON PARK, or GOODISON, or maybe an Everton nickname of old THE SCHOOL OF SCIENCE anything but a dreary name such as the waterside. Pete J Gaulton. (04/07/02) *Living
in America you se the commercial side of everything. As much as this
hurts Everton need to grab a high profile sponsor, to bring us back
where we belong, the red shite would sell the pennies off a dead man's
eyes so as Evertonian I have my wonderful memories , but that's all
we need to remember our glorious past , however if we are to compete
on the level of the top teams a huge cash injection is needed. We have
a great new manager and looking at the world cup our players have performed
well (Nic?).The American football team here is the Carolina Panthers
they have a state of the art stadium which they immediately sold the
naming rights to the highest bidder, that being Erricson phones, then
they sold the beer rights to Miller, my point is this was a start up
club with no history yet they were able to pull in a massive amount
of capital before a game was ever played. Keep sentiment in our hearts
but let's be realistic and bring back the glory days. Peter Morgan.
(26/06/02) *I agree with what seems to be the majority of views on here in that it should be called THE PEOPLES STADIUM. A nice touch would also to commemorate a stand each to a few of our heroes. Maybe a Dixie Dean End or a Kendall Stand? Si P. (26/06/02) *I
think the name for the new stadium should be "The Blue Stadium"
Home of EFC. This will stop all the arguing of who, what and where.
We are all blue to the core and this makes the most sense. I just hope
we are not being conned. Great site, keep up the good work. We need
more people like "Kipper" Blues. Thanks. John.
(26/06/02) *Why
not sell the naming rights for as much as poss. £100 m or so.
I don't think it's too important what it's called. But with our share
of that cash we could do some serious rebuilding. Maybe then we'll be
known for the football and not just a nicely named stadium. Who would
care about the name if the footy was Shite????? Rob.
(20/06/02) *I think it should be named after 'Dixie'. Fionna Hennah. (20/06/02) *I think the new stadium should be called one of these names(1)King Goodison (2)New old goodison(3)The kings dock stadium or my favoriute name Kick shit out of the kopites. Bluenose Del.(20/06/02) *I agree in part with Neil Mac. But it should be called The "MERSEYSIDE ARENA" Mike Kendrick. (05/06/02) *We
used to be known as the school of science, seeing as tho SFX are putting
shit loads of money into the project y not call it "School For
Xcellence" therefore giving SFX the recognition it deserves for
giving us the worldwide acclaim we will acheive! *The
new stadium is a great opportunity for the club to give itself a strong
identity. Its so annoying that people hear a scouse accent and instantly
assume that you support the shite. Lots of people don't even know that
Everton are a City of Liverpool team. We need to claim ownership of
this city back. Naming it 'The (insert sponsor) Mersey Arena' would
help us to do this. Neil Mac, (25/05/02) *I
THINK EVERTON'S NEXT STADIUM SHOULD BE CALLED THE DIXIE DEAN STADIUM,
BECAUSE KNOWONE THINKS OF HIM. HE'S HISTORY FOR EVERTON. 77 GOALS NOW
THAT'S SOMETHING ISN'T IT, DIXIE SUFFERED SOMETHING BAD THEN SADLY PASSED
AWAY IN HOSPITAL I HOPE ITS NOT ONLY ME THAT THINKS OF HIM I HOPE YOU
DO. *Ideally
I would like the whole site to be renamed Goodison Dock (I work next
to the site on the Queens Dock and hardly any reference is made to 'The
Kings Dock' because there is currently nothing there.....apart from
a few pigeons). But realistically, with Liverpool City Council being
involved an agreement will need to be struck so why don't we follow
the lead of our manager.......ladies and gents, I give you:- THE PEOPLES
STADIUM Cheers. Wes Cartlidge.(27/05/02) *Thinking about names for the new stadium I keep going back to the same ones Dean arena, The stadium of kings, The bakayoko dome, but this is my fave 'The theatre of kings' Come on you blue boys. Chris McKeown.Bootle.(27/05/02) *YOUR GEOFF'S LETTER 09/07/01- HE MUST BE READING MY MIND- HE'S GOT IT SPOT ON. STADIUM OF KINGS IT IS AND HE MENTIONED THE STANDS BEING CALLED THE GOODISON STAND ETC BRILLIANT AND NEITHER HIM OR ME ARE GENIUSES. LETS GET SERIOUS ABOUT THIS 'WATERFRONT' IS FIT FOR MIDDLESBORO, SOUTHEND GRIMSBY OR L/P**L RIGHT. IF WE WERE BUILDING AT THE GLADSTONE OR HUSKISSON ETC WE'D BE KNACKERED THERE FOR A NAME. TAKE A LEAF OUT OF SUNDERLANDS 'STADIUM OF LIGHT' WHICH IS NOW A BYE-PHRASE IN BRITISH FOOTBALL AND IT'S BARELY WHAT 2 OR 3 YEARS OLD. DON'T LET THIS OPPORTUNITY PASS US BY THIS STADIUM (OF KINGS) WILL LIGHT UP THE SKYLINE IT COULD WELL BE THE MOST PHOTOGRAPHED STADIUM IN THE WORLD SIMPLY BECAUSE OF ITS POSITION. KINGS ARENA IF THE STAND SLIDES IN AND STADIUM OF KINGS FOR REAL.THATS FITS EVERTON NICELY, WATERFRONT BE BUGGERED. BRIAN E FOLEY. EX-BOOTLE NOW IN CARDIFF. (21/05/02) *F.A.O
all of the people that are suggesting "the Dixie Dean stadium"
or ny thing with dixie dean in the name, this is one of the (if not
THE) greatest players ever to wear the royal blue jersey. to call any
part of the stadium Dixie dean would be a massive insult to the great
man considering he actually hated the name DIXIE. if anything is named
after him it should be the' William Ralph Dean' stand/stadium. but as
we already know the naming rights are up for grabs to the highest bidder.
so its highly likely that *Bearing in mind that the stadium is to cater for all of Merseyide I think the stadium should be called 'The People's Stadium'. Not only is the name topical but it would wind the other fans up even more. Tony. (21/04/02) *I think that since we are the PEOPLE'S CLUB the new stadium should be called the PEOPLE'S ARENA or something along those lines. Hammy. (21/04/02) *Call
the stadium: "The peoples club/arena/ground" etc. whatever's
most popular. William Askew.
(21/04/02) *IT SHOULD BE SOMETHING TO DO WITH DIXIE DEAN AS HE MADE THE CLUB. I LIKE THE W.R DEAN STADIUM OR THE DEAN ARENA. BUT IF ALL ELSE FAILS LETS STAY AS GOODISON PARK. Original Sharpy. (21/04/02) *The Mersey Kings' Arena. Eric the Blue, Bristol. (21/04/02) *Hello there, Don't know how many people will read this (around 4,500 a day at the last count) but it should be called: "The People's Stadium". We are of course "The Peoples Club", so why shouldn't we have "The People's Stadium"?????? Cheers, PERTHTOFFEE. (21/04/02) *"THE
EVERBLUE RIVERSIDE STADIUM"...Nuff said!! P.S. Great website.
Lynne 007.
(21/04/02) *The Merseyside International Dock Arena and Stadium or the MIDAS. As we are to be only part owners i think this is not bad and no more or less corny than some other suggestions. Then the four stands could be named after Dixie Dean, Harry Catterick, Howard Kendall and Alex Young. cheers. phil tomkins. (21/03/02) *How about "The Dome Dome" after Everton's most successful manager? Everton yets (21/03/02) *THE NEW GOODERSON. Barry Beasley. (21/03/02) *The
new stadium should in my view say something about the club, power, history,
science, so a big and bold name would do the trick, The Waterfront.
Most certainly we should have the Dixie Dean End, Goodison End and prehaps
the Southall or Kendall to add to some suggestions. Greg. (21/03/02) *am
i the first to sugest the name "the stadium of king's" short
and to the point.you can add the sponsors name ie "one to one stadium
of king's". Susan. (21/03/02) *
what about "We don't care what the red shite say!" Can you
imagine the derby. One kopite saying to the other (long distance phone
call) I've got a ticket for the derby at "WE DON'T CARE WHAT THE
RED SHITE SAY" (in Norwegian) Martin. (21/03/02) * what about GOODISON DOCK, we could incorporate both sides of the coin by keeping our home at Goodison and moving on to the Dock. Martin. (21/03/02) *It
will be something like the Ford Waterfront Arena. It should be something
like Kings Arena. Goodison is and should always be Goodison - let the
name RIP when the old Lady is bulldozed. Neil Wolstenholme. (21/03/02) *The
stadium should be called 'Three points against Leicester and a point
against Blackburn and we should be safe stadium' because that's all
we fucking talk about these days. MITCHELL. (21/03/02) *We
all know that it is going to be commercially named, so I think that
we should just be hopeful that it is a sensible name like the Kings
Dock Arena. I hope that as this is the case they will put some thought
into the names of the stands. We should have a Dixie Dean stand or end.
We should have a Goodison Stand without a doubt. As the ground itself
is going to be named with the overall development in mind I hope that
they don't forget the fans when naming the stands! Rico.
(21/03/02) * The stadium should be called the 'Mersey stadium' Chris Wardle. (24/02/02) *I
think the new ground should be called THE GOLDEN VISION and no stupid
stand names like north, east, south, west. *Surely
you have to call it "King's Dock"? The new stadium wont be
Goodison Park so therefore shouldn't be called it! It's time to move
on. I do like the idea of calling a stand after Goodison though! Tom
Lyon. (24/02/02) *Joe
Dwyer has already confirmed the new stadium will be commercially named,
so we can rule out anything to do with EFC or Goodison...the tenuous
link that could be a real money spinner would be to be negotiate with
our kit manufacturer : So we could have the Puma Stadium : If Leeds
Chairman is talking about selling the naming rights for Leeds new stadium
for £60M, then we should be negotiating for £100M, given
the Stadium will be being used every week of all sorts of high profile
events and throughout the year...That works out as a nice little £49M
for Everton to do some serious team rebuilding: once all the finance
for the development is completely in place and the scheme is given the
all clear to get built, naming rights negotiations could be started
& finished - hopefully by the end of this year - and if a deal on
the naming rights could be done for this sort of value, Bill can go
to meet the "Securitisation" men and borrow against the £49m
EFC will receive JUST for the naming rights..Wahaeey...is it too fanciful
to imagine that EFC will become a buying club competing with the Arsenals/Chelseas
and Manyoos of this world within the next 18 months...?????? Hmmm....now
how much do you reckon Rivaldo would cost.... Pete Sully.
(24/02/02) *Just
a simple "Goodison" would do me, but with the money made from
having some companies name in there, BT Goodison, or something like
that - also, i don't want the stands to be called west, east, north,
south, that'd be shit, proper names plz! *Ok
I think the new stadium should be called "Goodison Park" -
Kings Dock Merseyside or Goodison On the Water. *The new name for the stadium is already in place,it should be called simply "The kings dock arena" it's short, sweet and powerful and rolls off the tongue. It also has a regal touch to it,which is fitting as our colours are royal blue.As we will have a new stadium we could also have a new nickname "The Kings". Why not name one of the stands after our great old stadium like, "The Goodison Park end" and "The Kings stand" and name the rest after ex Everton greats "The Dixie Dean stand".This way we have a new stadium with a new name but we keep some of our old identity. Gary Spicer (18/01/02) *I think that the new name as corny as it sounds for evertons new stadium at kings dock should be called either THE NEW GOODISON or the DIXIE DEAN STADIUM. Ian. (18/01/02) *As it seams the fashion at the moment to sale the advertising space of everything and anything, we could get old megabucks Branson to sponsor the new stadium and it could be called "The Virgin Arena" and it would be quite suited at the moment because the way Simmo is playing between the sticks, away teams will get fuck all. Corsham Blue Boy. (12/12/01) *Due to the adverse amount of old has beens the scottish mong wants to bring to our club the only appropriate name for the new ground is SHADY PINES STADIUM. Chris & Kerri. (27/11/01) *personally
i think that the new name for our new stadium should be kopites are gob
shites arena but on a more serious note theres *My
favourites are short but sweet - New Goodison or Goodison Dock. Both of
these have the Goodison name in, but show that we have moved to a new
home. I don't think Goodison Park would be right because it's a new stadium
and home. * How about calling the new stadium "The Blue Kipperdome????? Paul Daly, New York. (16/10/01) *I think the names 'Dixie dome' and 'Dixie park are not bad but the way we've been performing recently, maybe 'no hope stadium. I think 'THE NEW GOODISON PARK' is quite catchy. James Pilk, Southport. (08/10/01) *great
site etc..apart from some of the ugliest Evertonians ever spotted in an
alehouse (re:The Black Horse)....thought of a couple of names for the
new ground ....maybe "Old Latchford"....."Grand Kenyon"... * GOODISON DOCK. by Bradley 7. (19/09/01) *I think our new stadium should be named the Nintendo Stadium, on the basis that each player has their own Special Powers: Gerrard.
Standing on the spot in the middle of the goal. Counteracted by his inability
to punch or catch the ball. *I
think we should name our new stadium 'The Royal Blue' Stadium, but I must
admit that the name' Dixieland' was good!!!! *The
lads at Lulus at the weekend suggested that the new ground should be called
the Gallows! "Hang the kopites one by one... " *Cut
the chat. The new ground is waterfront, and the old ground is as you know.
Must be called "The Waterfront Goodison". *Brought
myself to watch the match last night after my bird taped it for me and
nice to see the interview with Bill Kenwright saying he would like
the new home to be called "Goodison On The Waterfront" and he
even pissed himself laughing when Richard "TheWolfman" Keys
asked him the idea of ground sharing with the shite hahahahahah funny
very fuckin funny. how's he got a job in football the nipple. Tony
Evans. (25/08/01) *The new stadium should be called the 'come and see Duncan Ferguson five times a season stadium. Greg. (22/08/01) *The Brett Angel Soccer Science Stadium. John Griff. (17/08/01) *I Think we should name it......BOLLOCKS !!! But I like the Dixie ideas how about......."Dixie of Dock Blue" instead of Dickson of Dock Green....get it play on words...boom boom !! Seriously it has to be a tribute to Dixie... "Dixie Park" Keep it short n sweet..!! like our seasons....oops did I mention Shite !! Cheers mate top site....Rob B....(York) (17/08/01) *
The new ground will
have a corperate name, like 'The Reebok Stadium', or something similar.......I
bet. THE
NAMING ISSUE AT KINGS DOCK By Mickey Blue
Eyes.
What's in a name? Well, nothing if you don't mind being called Mongo when your name is really Jack. See, it does matter because it carries a sense of identity. Only criminals and malfunctionals want to change their identity. This is just as pertinent in the discussion of a proposed name for our possible move to a new stadium/arena at Kings Dock. What you call it will be part of our identity for a long time to come. Best to get it right first time and not go through the trauma of later changes. In my view the new stadium/arena has to be indelibly identified with Everton Football Club, preferably with an unmistakable tag. That's why I reckon it should be named "The Evertonian" or something similar. After all, it wouldn't exist (always presuming it does get built) without the initiative of our club. I wouldn't object either to "Goodison Park" since that has a link with the past and the whole world knows who plays there. But I object wildly to something bland or, worse, branded. Here's why. We all know that a camel is really a horse designed by committee. Namewise, what else could drive Derby to swap the unforgettably named Baseball Ground for the instant enema of Pride Park, or Middlesborough to decide on Riverside Stadium instead of Ayresome Park? Yeuk. Sunderland at least had the courage to go for Stadium of Light in a mistaken straight pinch from the Estadio da Luz in Portugal. Mistaken, because Luz is actually the area around the stadium, not the scientific condition…but it matters not, it has a ring to it. Congratulations to the Mackems. It's no coincidence that both Derby's and Boro's new grounds are right in the middle of awful industrial estates and they probably sought to relieve that with titles which might go well on an American suburban condo. Speaking of which, the Yanks usually know how to deal with this stadium name thing. Few people will not know who plays at the Yankee Stadium. And new stadia have names like Jacobs Field and Camdens Yard and other similar kinds of individual statements. I'm all in favour of anything which livens up life and gets us away from chips with everything. So what have we heard so far from the committee responsible for the Kings Dock? Now here's a surprise: Waterfront Stadium. It's enough to make you lock and load and go massacre the whole lot of them. Count me in with yourself and the rest of the firing squad if you want to leave the Suits full of holes. Waterfront Stadium…..it has the ring of a wet cardboard box and the imagination of a duck. Why, you wonder groaning inwardly, do people do this to themselves? It reminds me of Dunroamin' and Rose Cottage without the pizzaz. It has all the appeal of suet pudding, porridge and tripe. Why do they have to be so fucking mediocre? If we can't shoot the perpetrators we ought at least to be able to force them to their knees and batter them with rolled up copies of Private Eye filled with lead. And lurking over the horizon is the truly awful threat of naming rights. Now, committee Suits are bad. But gawd save us from corporate Suits who are downright evil and three times worse in their one-dimensional anonymity. Look no further than Railtrack for the evidence. You can also find it at the disgracefully named Reebok and McAlpine stadia. Nike/Adidas/Puma/Murdoch/Hollands Pies/Coca-Pepsi Cola anybody? They pays the money and steals your identity. If you let them. Who wants to sell their soul for a mess of pottage and peanuts? No sir, count me out of that one and no mistake. I can't stand the horrors of MacDonalds either. So I say ditch the bland and the putrid and go for it, really go for it, with The Evertonian. We have nothing to lose but our name. Is that alright with you, Jack? Mickey Blue Eyes.
