Great Win For The Girls

Everton U14's Ladies, scored a tremendous 11-0 victory over their unfortunate Wigan counterparts. I wonder if their not doing anything this Sunday, could we borrow the girls, so we can safely book our passage into the next round of the Cup. Keep up the good work girls, remember you're wearing the Royal Blue.

EVERTON 11 0 WIGAN LATICS O

The u14's played their first competitive game since mid December on Saturday. The blues took control of the game from the first minute pushing Wigan back to the edge of their penalty box, Where they tried to defend against the blues who's football Wigan had no answer to. With this the goals game at regular intervals and if it had not been for the Wigan keeper the 5-0 h-t score would have been doubled. The second half was much the same as the first with the Blues knocking the ball around involving a number of player in each move. A mention for our two keepers Rhianne and Gemma who hardly touched the ball and had to keep their concentration on this very cold morning. Scorers Michelle Hinnagan 2, Rachael Dunlop 2, Kate Dwyer 2, and one a piece for Casey Currie, Faye Mcoy, Kate Darby, Stacy McMohon, plus an o.g. Andy again found it hard to pick a a player of the match due to the performance of all the girls, however he thought that Kate Dwyer just pipped her team mates for the award. Kate has had an injury filled season so far and it was nice to see her direct running giving her two deserved goals. The 14's travel to Bury this coming weekend.

The 'A' team put together their worst performance of the season drawing 2-2 at Glossop. Contending with a 10 player defence made it hard for the girls, and in the first minute the writing was one the wall when we missed our first one on one chance of many. Glossop took the lead after 12 minutes as the Everton defenders lacked concentration. Despite continued dominance and a Gemma Parsley equaliser and having 85% of the possession, a long ball over the top resulting in the Glossop attacker pushing the Everton defender into the goalie and the loose ball knocked in. Despite protests the referee chose to ignore it. In the second half Glossop crossed the half way line twice as Everton equalised through a great shot by Claire Maloney, but despite hitting the inside of the post and the crossbar, another one on one missed in the dying seconds and the rebound from the crossbar missed from 3 yards out when the goal was clear this was a day to forget, the girls know this is a game they want out of their system after the great season so far. Nataleigh Cliff was player of the game. The A team are at home to Buxton this Sunday.

The under 12's and the under 16's both had games postponed due to the adverse weather conditions.

The Everton Girls under 12's completed the league and cup double on wednesday beating a team from near Stockport called Hopwood 2-0, Jenny Toole scoring both. They finished their season in the Lancashire League with only one defeat all year. Thanks. Kevin Hazard. (17/05/03)

Lauren Hazard has tight hold of the cup

Everton Girls met Manchester united on Monday in the Lancashire FA under 12's Cup Final under floodlights at the Lancashire FA headquarters. We had knocked out teams including Blackpool and Burnley to reach the final and had recently come back from 2-0 down in the league to beat United 3-2 so we knew we were in for a game. The blues management team got the tacticts just right .......

United started very well with a lot of possesion without threatening Gemma Cluskey in goal but as the first half went on the girls in blue started to get a grip of the game. Helen Byrne was solid at the back and when she was injured Hannah Brown replaced her (the Keiser himself would have been impressed). Just before half time the hard working Lauren Hazard was replaced by Rachel Dunlop and Hannah Twigg gave Jenny Toole a well earned rest. The second half saw our girls with a lot more possesion and Lorna Smith had a couple of very good efforts saved before Megan Hughes had a shot cleared off the line.

Due to some good work by Lauren Cassiday the ball was worked down the left hand side of the pitch and when the ball was pushed into the box Aimee Cleaver the blues captain was on the end of it to put the ball in the net and give all the travelling support a nervous 10 mins before the final whistle.

The girls will face United one more time in a league play off final before the season ends. Manager John Williams and Coach Graeme Hurst may well have a double winning side on their hands.

Regards. Kevin Hazard
