Oh being a Blue is so so painful at times. No other club in the English League's would know how frustrating our beloved club can be. On our day we can beat the best with ease, today at times we looked and played like Brazil, then in a blink of an eye, we would not look out of place in the County Combination.
Moyesy decided against giving Jason Donovan a last start before his departure to the States. Instead and maybe rightly so, Moyesy stayed faithful to the boys who thumped Hull with such ease last Sunday. The only change was Tiny coming in for the injured Ossie. King Louis never even made the bench, and in the early stages Moyesy decision looked bob on, as Big Vic and The Yak played like the lives depended on it.
Nuts should have given the Blues a very early lead when he cut in from the left and curled a superb shot goal bound. England World Cup hopeful and all round good egg Joe Hart pulled off a save out of the top draw.
Everton pressed and Hart was the busier by far of the two keepers. Even with his fantastic form of late, he was powerless to stop Big Vic's thunderbolt from the edge of the area. Vic turned and fired high into the net, in fact with such power, the pegs at the back of the net could not keep the goal from nearly rocking back.
The Yak made it two a few minutes later, when he bundled his header over the line after good work on the right from Nuts and Mikky. Two nil and the boys were coasting. This was the price Brum had to pay for wrecking our Wembley dreams earlier in the year. They were not at the races, Everton were first to everything and had the match in total control, but then from out of nowhere Jerome K Jerome grabbed the faintest of touches to guide Faheys free kick past Tim in the sticks.
Still at two one, the panic buttons did not have to be pressed, but a few minutes into the second period Brum were level after some route one footy. It was frustrating, and certainly not what we deserved. Moyesy changed Big Vic and The Yak for Danny G Laa and Jason. He was forced to change Tiny after he went down awkward in the Brum box. He tried to carry on but Jack the Lad was brought into the fray to try and repeat his feat of a few weeks ago of trying to find the back of the onion bag late in the match.
It wasn't to be. The Blues had two penalty claims thrown out, one to me was cast iron, but I will let the telly dudes tonight try to fathom out if what we saw was a penalty when Nuts shot looked like it was armed away by a Brum defender. The Blues pressed, Brum stayed tight, the points as in the first game in December were shared.
Nuts, Mikky and Jonny Boy all played well. Landon waved goodbye, hopefully just for now to the Blues faithful. Putting all that to one side, it was definitely two points lost rather than one gained. Starman goes to Jonny Boy. Nine matches left, still all to play for, chin up, knuckle down, and we can still make Europe.
Full Time 2-2
