Well we had heard all the pre match gags, Everton could not lose and all that, but in the end it was a night that that only one Everton turned up.
The Blues from Goodison made it six on the spin pre season, and for me this by far was the best win and more importantly performance of our warm up campaign for the season ahead.
Normally technique, skill and ability are comments afforded to South American teams, but last night it was the team from Merseyside those attributes were afforded too.
Moyesy had a host of riches at his disposal. For once with a campaign about to start we have a fully fit squad, and with a Goodison attendance of nearly 26,000 for a friendly optimism for this coming term is through the roof.
New boys Becks, Jan Mucha and Maggie were all on display and none let us down. Seamus played at right back or was that right wing, and he was outstanding.
Mikky graced the park as did Nuts, Jack sat in the holding role in the first period, Screech in the second and it was great to see him back. Throw into the mix Jonny Boy and King Louis who sat this one out, and our optimism should not be played down.
Another player worthy of mention Tiny Tim should have had a hat trick by half time. Good goalkeeping, the woodwork, and a shocker of a miss worked against Tiny. Seamus terrorised their left back, Jack the Lad looked so comfortable in the holding role, it looked like he had played at that level for years. Jags was Jags at the back, steady as ever, and looking fit as a fiddle after all the rumours of the last week.
Becks our new front man went close, and if the level of service he received last night continues, a bag full of goals should come his way this season. The introduction of Maggie in the second period brought the first goal of the evening and what a belter it was.
Maggie out wide left threw in a fantastic pin point cross down towards the Street End. Becks raised like the proverbial salmon from around the penalty area to guide his header past the CD Everton keeper to give the Blues a one nil lead.
It is what we deserved as our play was top draw. It did not take long till another goal came our way when Billy smashed home a shot after Screech had set him up with a header.
Two nil, the Friendship Cup in the bag, but what was most important last night was the historic meeting of two Everton's.
Special mention to The Ruleteros Society for getting this unique fixture off the ground, and hopefully in the future there will be a few thousand of us heading South America way for the return leg.
On the season in hand, it looks promising, and I for one can't wait. Moyesy has without doubt built a great squad, depth now in most positions, so bring them all on.
The futures bright, the futures Royal Blue.
