Pienaar At Blackpool
Pienaar At Blackpool

Everton: Mucha, Neville, Duffy, Heitinga, Baines, Coleman, Fellaini, Gibson, Pienaar, Naismith, Jelavic.

Bench: Howard for Mucha(46m), Osman for Pienaar(46m), Rodwell for Naismith(58m), Vellios for Fellaini(69m), Garbutt for Baines(70m), Barkley for Gibson(72m), Bidwell for Duffy(82m), Distin, McAleny, Browning.

A hot sunny Bloomfield Road welcomed 2,100 Everton fans plus a few hundred more in the Blackpool end to the Keith Southern Testimonial. The sunshine was one of a few bright spots as Everton were easily beaten 2-0.

Everton had a full squad on duty except for Tony Hibbert, and Jags. Maggie Gueye was also missing due to his participation in the Olympics with Senegal.

The Everton fans were in full voice welcoming Jelovic with the KC and the sunshine band ditty. Everton started brightly. Baines to Jelavic to Pienaar who went down the left, stepped back inside the full back and put in a great cross for Fellaini to head home, but it was given offside. A decision the travelling Everton fans were not happy with and told the linesman.

From then on it was a poor game for Everton. Mucha had to make a couple of good saves in the first half. Keith Southern, who is now at Huddersfield played for the first fiteen minutes and then came off. Beides a good exchange between Jelavic and Naismith which saw the keeper saving the shot from Naisy. Everton had a few corners which were either cleared at the near post or were hit past the far post with nobody there.

At half time Howard, Osman and Anichebe came on for Mucha, Pienaar and Jelavic. But Everton didnt create much besides a great effort from Big Vic which hit the bar. Blackpool went ahead with a free header by Sylvester. Howard got a hand to it, but the header was too powerful. After this there were plenty of changes by both teams. Blackpool made 5 subs at once and their youngsters seemed to have more desire than ours and went 2-0 up. Ossie hit a tame shot at the keeper when he should have scored.

The bright spots were a few good pieces of link up play between Naisy and Jela, Peanuts back in an Everton shirt, Ross Barkley showing a good bit of skill and shooting, and Duffy winning a few headers. That was about it.

Anyway. What is they say. It was only a friendly. Its another run out for the senior for the senior squad. Now we have the Toy Hibbert testimonial against AEK Athens at Goodison Park at Goodison Park on Wednesday.

First of all, thank you so much to you guys for coming up yesterday. Both Blackpool and Everton are close to Keith's heart and it was fitting we should play each other for his testimonial. That said, I thought you were disappointing. Considering you had virtually your full side out for a game against a team a division below, I'd have thought you'd take it a bit more seriously. We were deserved winners and, on the evidence of yesterday, it won't be long before we join you back in the Prem. Here's hoping fof a good season for both of us. I'll be surprised if you don't make Europe but you must get off to a good start instead of leaving it until Christmas.

It is disapointing for travelling fans when the match is a bit of a durge but isnt it the same every pre season ? I would not worry too much about friendlies, i am glad this result happened as its a wake up call. The lower league side always put it in as they dont get a chance to meet bigger sides often-hence Cup Final shocks The players know whats required, and you can bet Moyes will lick the players into shape, i expect them to sweating like a Kansas Bull this week. We have a cracking squad now, and yes we need a right sided midfielder, we all know that. Remember how well we played against Newcastle ?

We have an awful awful lot to do inside two weeks before we play the Mancs. Make no mistake about it, this was a POOR show. Friendly or no friendly, half our team looked unfit and a few looked as if they had piled the pounds on when on their recent 'jollies'. (take note Gibbo) Cameo roles again for the likes of Barkley, Moyes seemed to have made his mind up already about his starting line-up, why dont you give the guy 60 mins Davey? Sorry, but Osman was dreadful throughout, absolutely anonymous for the most part and missed a sitter when clean through, when he passed it into the goalies hands. The team is crying out for genuine pace, and yet Coleman, Osman etc are continually tried out as a 'solution' on the right. Sorry Davey, much as I admire you over the last ten years, please starting risks with younger players on the fringe. We are still relying on a 35 year old right back to fill that berth with no pressure on his position whatsoever. Sorry if this sounds like a rant but I went to Blackpool optimistic but came back feeling not good about what I witnessed, a young Blackpool team giving us the runaround for the most part.

This looks promising for new season ( hint of sarcasm). We need another proven goal scorer and another skill full attacking midfielder and a right back otherwise we're going to struggle again. Hopefully Moyes can pull another miracle out the bag or is that bag now empty?
