Everton entertain Newcastle United at home on Monday 17th September hoping to get back on track after their 2-1 defeat at the Hawthorns whilst Villa took a point from a 1-1 draw at the Sports Direct Arena with an opener from Ciaran Clark before an equaliser from Hatem Ben Arfa rescued a point for the home side.
Since the millennium the fixture between the Toffees and the Magpies has been a regular feature in the top flight despite Newcastle being absent for a couple of seasons as they had to regroup in the Championship after being victims of relegation.
Some games will stand out in peoples memories for certain reasons such as David Moyes's 3rd game in charge on Good Friday 29th March 2002 when the Tyneside public were treated to an 8 goal thriller.
PLAYED FOR BOTH SIDES
Since the Premiership was founded 20 years ago players have played for both sides notably Duncan Ferguson who wore the black and white stripes of the Magpies on 30 occasions scoring 8 goals. Steve Watson, Alessandro Pistone, Paul Gascoigne , Marc Hottiger, David Ginola, Gary Speed and most recently Dan Gosling have also had the pleasure to mix their Geordie accents with their scouse. Most recently of course our own Sylvain Distin.
