Tuesday 25th September 2012 7:45 PM
(Capital One Cup (Live On Sky))
Referee: Perry Mason
Attendance:
Everton Team: Mucha, Coleman, Heitinga, Distin, Oviedo, Naismith (Jelavic), Fellaini, Junior (Neville), Gueye (Pienaar), Mirallas, Anichebe
Subs: Howard, Jagielka, Neville(46m), Pienaar(46m), Jelavic(65m)
David Moyes said: "These boys are in the squad and they've got to show that when players get injured in the first team they can come in and play. If you don't use them what's the point in having them? One or two did OK but others didn't.
"We started terribly and handed Leeds the initiative and in all honesty probably lost the game in the first 20 minutes by giving away a really poor goal.

Davey, just hold you hands up and say sorry, you got it wrong. You lost a lot of friends on Tuesday night and you deserved to. After ten years you should know better. You even pissed me off with that team and attitude.

Moyes has his reasons that we will never no why he chose that team we have the rest of the season for the 1st strong team to try to last out so maybe he wanted some off the bench out because they are all pro's well ment to be so they are to blame not him.

Lets not get carried away here boys! It is a micky mouse cup that even whisky nose has been knocked out of by lower league teams whilst blooding your Wellbecks, Gibsons, Evans etc of this world.
Lets take the positives. Junior and Oviedo have a full cap under their belt which will benefit them moving forward, Guaye has another appearance and Jelavic came back from his injury and looked ready for Saturday.
Moyes is the best thing we've got, lets not jump all over him with every mistake he makes.

The team that was on the pitch was good enough to win. They should shoulder the blame lack of effort ,over confidence . Leeds is always a hard place to go ,and those that thought it was going to be a walk over need a slap. It´s done . The moaners will moan what ever . Bring on the Saints .In Moyes we trust .

This is full of world class managers in hindsight but what if we played the star men and one of them got a long term injury?? This board would be full of people questioning risking our league form against lower opposition. Moyes has done a fantastic job and as disappointing as the game was for all of us remember we have started the season extremely well playing the best football ive ever seen us play and optimism should still be very high. I feel totally let down by this team selection. It took me nearly 3 hours to get there and then 25 mins queuing, in the rain, to get in.
I can never understand the mentality of having star players on the bench and invariably having to throw them on later in an attempt to rescue the situation. We've done it so many times and gone out.
Surely it would be better to start with the usual 11 and, then, if we get a decent lead substitute the star men.

From watching on Sky we were shite. Does DM ever actually WANT to win something? That selection, which was was just plain reckless, suggests not.

Frustration is the word that best describes how I'm feeling. In my opinion, Moyes underestimated a hard battling Leeds side and, if we're honest, I think most of us agree that they deserved to win.
It's made worse by the fact that this is one of the cups we'd ear-marked to win.
BUT....
To brand Moyes 'a clown' is thoroughly unjust and a ridiculous knee-jerk reaction.
In my 20+ years of supporting Everton this is by far the best football I've seen us play and the strongest starting 11 that I can remember.
Indeed, if we get a few injuries to key players then we'll be nothing better than a mid-table side but having witnessed the first few league games of the season I am prouder of our team than I have ever been.
Yes, Moyesy sometimes gets it wrong - Leeds and Liverpool away last year. But overall, even with no cups to show, we are in the best place we have been for years.
Give the man (and BK for that matter) the credit he deserves.

I think we need to rein our necks in here. We have had a good start to the league season and one bad night does not change the strategy for the season. We are lucky to have David Moyes as our manager. Keep believing and judge the season in May. IMWT.

Instead of putting out a team of battlers we put out a team of strangers.
It is OK to make one or two changes but to make wholesale changes and then blame the players is an insult to intelligence.
Anybody with a brain would know that Leeds were going to battle and we left Neville and Jagielka out.
We needed to win the right to play but the boys had no chance due ONLY to very poor team selection and arrogance.

It was useful in showing Moyesy who is good enough and who isn't. Naismith out of his depth, Anichebe can't lead the line (not good enough), Distin's lost it and Coleman's passing was fecking shite.

Some embarrassing comments here. Like Moyes says what's the point in having some of the players if they never get a game? When is Oviedo going to play in the league? And Junior might need to be thrown in at some stage this season injury permitting. 5 of that side played against Swansea and most Blues seem to think Heitinga & Distin is our strongest partnership (which baffles me) so it was hardly a weak side. In fact our best player of the season so far IMO, Fellaini, was arguably the worst player on the pitch...didn't put a tackle in, only woke up when we were 2 down.

Don't want Moyse to go but we play Leyton Orient at home and he plays a far stronger side and against Leeds away he puts out that team last night, it defies all logic.

Get a grip you plazzy Evertonians. You've probably never been inside Goodison yet you criticise Moyes every time we have a bad game. Onward and upward....IMWT

We all know how good Moyes is for Everton but sometimes I absolutely despair of him. I'm afraid he got it wrong big time last night.
This was always going to be a tough ole game so it's certainly not the time to give Junior his chance ..... maybe on Saturday when we're 3-0 up with 10 minutes to go ..... not Leeds away, and I don't know how many chances Gueye is going to get ?
The full strength team should have been played. It's an absolute no-brainer, we should've gone for it big time, another 3 games and we're in the final with the chance of Europe ....... a damn sight easier than a 38 game slog to try'n to get into the same competition finishing 5th or 6th.
Well I'm furious. We've only got the FA Cup to go for now. He should apologise to the 5000 who wasted their time and money.

I will not over-criticise a bloke who keeps a team with the finances of a relegation outfit, in the upper half of the Premier League. Yes, he gets things wrong sometimes but he gets a lot more right than wrong.

Yes players were found wanting but so too the selection was foolhardy and the changes too little too late. We will never win a cup with Moyes as he invariably gets such things wrong.

The Moyes Doctrine=Two steps forward, one step back.
The man has many attributes, IE, an eye for a bargain buy. But the sad reality is that many of us are coming to the inevitable conclusion, that we will never win any trophy whilst he remains as manager.
I just pray that we do not go 1-0 up early on against the redshite in a couple of weeks, as it will be backs to the wall for 89 minutes.

Agreed Des the man is a clown trying to ride on the back of no money
Yes he hasn't had a lot but he has done NOTHING

Moyes gave Leeds the initiative with his poor team selection and change of tactics. Resting players then using them to chase a game shows a lack of judgement by him.
Also shows disrespect to Leeds , the competition and most importantly travelling fans.
