David Moyes made six changes to the team that started against Swansea. Cisco Junior comes into the midfield with Felli. Bryan Oviedo comes in for his first start giving Bainesy a rest. Maggie is on the left and Nace is on the right. While Super Kev joins big Vic up top.
Well if we ever thought this was going to be an easy ride were dispelled after four minutes. It was Aidan White who gave Leeds the start they wanted. He seemed to stroll through the middle of the park with nobody making a challenge and found himself with a shooting chance just inside the box. It flew into the net with Jan Mucha no chance.
It took us a bit of time to get over the shock. The game was not going our way and the first half hour belonged to Leeds. It took us 29 minutes before we had an effort on goal. The chance fell to Victor from a cross from Ovi. But Vic couldn't keep his shot down and his effort blazed over the bar.
We had a serious let off with the last action of the half. Becchio's header was well saved by Jan but it still needed Nace off the line to keep the score just to 1-0.
It wasn't what we wanted from the first 45 minutes. We just weren't in the game and we needed to make a dramatic improvement to stay in the game.
Half Time: Leeds 1 Everton 0
David Moyes spat his dummy out at half time, Junior came off for Phil Neville and Peanuts came on for Maggie.
Everton started the second half with a bit more purpose. Peanuts went into the middle of the park with Kev on the left and Felli played further up alongside Victor.
The first real Everton chance fell to Steven Naismith and he fluffed it. It was a cross by Vic to the back post. Nace found himself completely clear but he headed well wide. He should have scored.
Victor nearly got us level with a quick turn and a shot but his effort crept passed the post.
Jela came on for Nace with 25 minutes to go.
With 20 minutes left we went two down. A free kick on the left was played short and Pugh hit a shot that hit a few on the way into the net.
We were desperate for anything to happen and Felli tried a long ranger that the goalie done well to save.
With ten minutes to go we got back into through Sylavain Distin. A free kick thrown in from Peanuts was flicked on by Vic for Sylvain to head into the top corner.
It was kitchen sink time. Jela had a header from a corner headed straight at the goalie.
We threw everything at them. We had what looked like a certain penalty waved away when Victor was hauled down in the box. It just didn't happen for us.
To be honest I'm absolutely gutted. This was a cup that we had a serious chance of winning and we have once again fucked it up. There were 5000 Evertonians that made the trip to Elland Road and once again we have been let down big time.
By the way Leeds were worthy winners and for what it's worth Sylvain Distin was my Blue Kipper Starman. There wasn't many to choose from.
