Chelsea Reserves 1 EVERTON Reserves 1
Everton second string came back from a goal down at Stafford Bridge to earn a deserved point with a goal from Ross Barkley in the Barclays Premier Reserve league last night. Everton had a strong line up against Chelsea with new signings Jan Mucha, Joao Silva and Mageye Gueye all starting the game. There was also 90 minutes for James Vaughan and Shane Duffy, who was captain.
Chelsea had most of the possession in the first half, but Everton could have taken the lead in the first minute when Joao Silva hit a close range shot straight at the Chelsea keeper. Jan Mucha was the more busier of the keepers from then on and showed his pedigree with some top saves.
The Slovakian keeper was unable to keep out Fabio Borini's shot from the edge of the box to put Chelsea 1-0 up after 21 minutes. Everton came back into the game and a powerful drive by Gueye was well saved by Walker in the Chelsea goal.
In the second half Everton were the best starters and Gueye was giving the Chelsea defenders problems down the left hand side. Everton got a desreved equaliser with a header from Barkley. Everton continued to press and Akpan went close. But it was Chelsea who finished the stronger with Mucha called upon to make more saves.
Everton Reserves: Jan Mucha, Aristole Nsiala, Shane Duffy, Shkodran Mustafi, Jake Bidwell, Jose Baxter, Hope Akpan, Ross Barkley, Mageye Gueye.(Craig 60m), James Vaughan, Joao Silva (Wallace 45m).
