Blues Have It All To Do

Everton Ladies went down 3-1 in their first leg of their Champions League clash against 2009 Winners FCR 2001 Duisburg of Germany.

There was no disgrace for Mo Marley's side as they battled in vain against the quality of the German opposition.

The first half ended goalless, but the 2009 Champions showed their class by scoring three times in the second period, helped at least once by some slack Everton defending.

Natasha Dowie gave the fans that turned out in Widnes something to cheer when she pulled a goal back for the Blues. They know that when they travel to Germany next week they have it all to do, and have to score three times at the very least to progress to the Semi Finals.

The Ladies worked hard last night, but they were up against a technically better team and a team already well into their domestic season and thus more match fit. That said, the three Duisburg goals all came from defensive lapses - the best genuine attacking attempts on goal were all from the Blues. It's a big ask to go to Germany and overturn a 1-3 deficit, but fingers crossed for a bit of luck. COYBL !!
