Everton Player Drops Litter!

News was slow in the Sunderland yesterday when a story emerged in their Echo about an Everton player dropping litter following our FA Cup victory at the Stadium of Light last Wednesday!

Can you believe it? You would think that it was a late April Fool - but it was not.

Everton have issued an apology.

Apparently, it happened as the team boarded their coach outside the Radisson Hotel, Durham City, where they had been staying before the game at the Stadium of Light. The littering was witnessed by the Sunderland Echo's Durham reporter Rob Freeth.

Jobsworth Freeth said: 'I was walking along the riverside path opposite the hotel when I saw the Everton squad board the coach.'

'As one of the players got on, he threw what turned out to be his plastic hotel key card at other Everton staff who were standing nearby. It missed them and landed a few metres from me.'

'I left it for a short while, thinking someone would pick it up, but no one did.'

Freeth, an editor at the Echo, then picked up the card and handed it back.

Interesting Freeth went on, and on, and on: 'One of the Everton party took the card and boarded the bus. Another member of the party seemed to take exception to being told not to drop litter.'

A spokesman for Everton said: 'We pride ourselves on being a friendly and responsible club.'

'Things like this are just not what Everton football club is all about. We would like to apologise to anyone who may have been offended by anything that happened outside the team coach.'

'The playing staff will be reminded of their social responsibilities, particularly when they are away from Merseyside.'

What a load of rubbish!

Which Everton player do you think was the culprit? Sylvain Dustbin?

At the risk of getting slagged off, if one of our players has thrown something on the floor then he should pick it up. All the players and staff are representing our club especially on away trips and should behave as such as the club have stated. The guy who picked up the rubbish was a journalist so only doing his job, he couldn't exactly report on how unlucky Sunderland were now could he!!!!

Littering is littering and is unacceptable no matter who drops it. When our club has to put over the tannoy respect the area and you see the state of the streets before and after the match the message is clearly not getting through.
