Everton future?
More Misc News
Everyone wants to see us make new signings but with money in short supply this looks unlikely.
So if we don't get new signings on loan then it looks like next season won't be any different to this season.
It might be worse.
Are we likely to start next season as badly as we have started the last three seasons?
What would that do to attendances?
How is the team likely to perform with so many at veteran level?
Should we see more of Ross Barkley and Shane Duffy and other younger players?
Could it be a disastrous campaign?
What do you think?

With Newcastle in the spotlight I expect the same players to start the season . A winger will be nice but dont have any luck with them Billy, Drenthe any one ? Moyes knows what he needs and what he has at his disposal I can only see our closest rivals wanting the odd player to disrupt the club it wont happen as Harry well knows ropey league next season here we come

When fit we have a squad that can match and beat anybody on their day. If Jelavic stays fit he will score 20 goals plus. We need to see more of Duffy and Barkley next season also.
Not much tweaking is needed with the squad but a quality back up keeper is needed to challenge Howard and it is a no brainer that we should get Pienaar back. I have heard talk of Clint Dempsey but not entirely sure about him. I think we should look at Matt Jarvis as he and Pienaar can suppy the ammunition for Jelavic and Cahill.
Another thing to do next season is for Moyes to be more attacking when we play those lot across the park and not feel inferior to them. We have better players and a better squad then them and we should be wiping the floor with them.

The key is not new signings, but Pienaar. Get him, and you can build a side. If anyone wants to know why this club is great, look at Johnny Heitinga. When he came, he thought he was doing us a favour and strolled around, being openly critical. Then he played regular games, got the support of the crowd, and realised what it's all about. Now he's the club's biggest cheerleader. So, one of the classiest defenders in the world, who's played in a World Cup Final, doesn't want to play anywhere else...just think about that for a minute. Instead of worrying about lack of money; think about the things we've got that money can't buy !!

Make no bones about it, if Moyes was available Manure would snap him up!!
Just who do you think is waiting in the wings to take up the challenge at Everton? If we could only get started in the season as strong as we finish we would be up around the champions league spots for sure...Look at the money Chelsea/Spurs have spent 7/8 points behind those (I know they have a game in hand!) Chelsea have made there way to a champions league final!!!
Jeezzz.... Wake up and smell the coffee FFS, the game has moved on since '86 and we are developing the young, holding on to them will be the problem, moyes included.

Can we also just nail this myth that we don't play good football under Moyes. We do. I've been supporting Everton since 1986 and this is the best football we have played since those days. Easily. At times, even in the first half of this season, it has been scintillating stuff. Unfortunately we've only just now got a player to finish the moves off. I don't know what matches the moaners watch but if they can't spot the brilliant play of Bainesy, Distain, Heitinga, Fellaini, Pienaar, Donovan, Osman, Cahill, Jelavic then they have no business watching us. We even out-played Manu Utd the other day. Still they moaned. I'm so glad there's been a few fans on here willing to stick up for this team and for Moyes, sometimes I get downhearted reading the relentless gloom from some people. They even moaned after we beat Sunderland 4-0. They really did! Astonishing. If they couldn't enjoy that then - and I don't mind saying this again - please go and support some other team. Please. And thanks again to the fans on here who are praising our great team and extraordinary manager. We are the true supporters. IMWT.

Completely agree with Mikeyboy. I am proud that we have never been bought out, yet still perform on a reasonably consistent basis and are able to compete with the big spenders. On our day, no team is a match for us at Goodison and that is because of the team ethic, not because of millions of pounds spent. I would say we're the one team in the league that Citeeeeh fear. No egos just decent honest players who in general, would kill for the club. The only people who should be able to buy the club are fans who appreciate moyes and will give him the freedom to mould the team how he wants. I don't care what people say about Kenwright, he loves the club and would die for the club. He would only sell to somebody who would be as devoted as he is.

L from London - Great memories over the last 10 years?
No trophies
Constant capitulation to the dark side
Not one single league win away to the 'big' 4 in 40 goes.
Some of the worst football I have seen in 50 years as a blue.
And its all down to David Moyes.

The main issue that needs resolving is we need money at the moment the club does not have it. The case of Rangers, Portsmouth, West Ham even Liverpool before their new owners came in, we cannot allow that to happen to our beloved club. I want new signing like any fan but I am not wanting to risk are existence on the basis of finishing 5th at best and a cup. We need some realism there is no endless pot of cash and the likes of city etc, it will catch up with them, even the red shite wont be spending this summer.

No need for the doom and gloom. We have a squad that can compete with the best. If we can get off to a good start for a change I think we could push on next season with Jelavic bagging the goals we have lacked for most of this season. Somehow were in 7th with most of our goals coming from midfield and bit part strikers. Add Jelavic's goals to this and we can compete. He seems to be the missing piece of the jigsaw. Pienaar is a must. If we only bring him in this summer I would be happy.

We basically have a strong squad of players with everyone fit, but injuries will happen. We desparately need cover at both fullbacks. Possibly new right back with Hibbo as cover we all know we need another creative midfielder. We need a class striker to go along side Jellyfish. We have potential in young Ross and Jack. So we do not need to go into hock to be very competetive. Sorry to say but Tim and capitan Phil should be moved over to the coaching side and wheeled out on the odd occassion. But we need others to step up to the plate and show Tim's committment and Phil's leadership qualities because sometimes thats whats gets you points, you have to know "how" to play football as well as have the skill. We MUST try and get Peanuts back but suspect appy arry will try and rip us off again laike he always does.

Paul from Warrington, apart from calling me a 'kopite'(always the favourite response of the braindead) says we shouldn't be happy with Moyes and says he has caused a 'cancer at the club'. Nice.
He then says we should 'take some risks'. Yeah, go and tell that to Portsmouth, to Leeds, to Sheffield Wednesday, to Charlton, to bloody Rangers, Paul. They took some risks and look what happened. We should be paying Moyes double what he's getting now for delivering top football and great memories season after season after season with zero money - and with idiot 'supporters' like you on his back the whole time. If there is a 'cancer' at the club it's fools like you, the weasels at Toffeeweb and the blow-hards at the Blue Union. I dearly wish you'd all do one and support someone else. I love this club and I've never loved it more than over the past 10 seasons. All thanks to David Moyes.

Paul J from Warrington, what risks do you think the club should take? Gamble the long term security of the club on new signings? Which players do you think we could afford? Who would want to come to us?

Agree with the comments before mine.
If we can keep this squad together and maybe add Pienaar and possibly a winger to replace Drenthe (dont think he is staying) and another striker to go with Jelavic, i believe we can match or even better this season's finish.
Matt Jarvis and somebody like Jelle Vossen or Bas Dost shouldn't cost too much (fingers crossed).
Regarding Moyes - I personally hope he signs for another 5 years cos he is a terrific manager who we are lucky to have. I wouldn't swap him for just about anybody! What we do need is INVESTMENT

If and when Jack gets fit again and plays in a few games I'm sure he'll prove he's the real deal. So many pros and ex pros surely can't be wrong. The youngsters in waiting
mean that we have a potentially great squad, if they come through as expected. I've written off 2011/12 and can't wait for 2012/13 to start.
Win, Stafford, 7:38 PM 26/04/2012

I reckon if we have another season like the last one Moyes will be off. If he does go we'll then have to find a replacement and I don't think we'll be so lucky this time. I understand Moyes is the 4th best paid manager in the prem and I don't think we'll be able to keep that up, so it means we'll have to pick one of the low down managers. If all that happens we'll end up in the bottom half of the table for years and likely get relegated. I can't see anybody buying the club because the days of mad money have gone for good and aren't coming back. I think Kenwright will get fed up and stand down. The whole football game is slowly coming to terms with it all and once the UEFA rules come into play purse strings will get even tighter. I think gates will drop all round except for a few clubs. Everything will be up in the air.

No wonder our club is in a mess when supporters like Mikeboy and L London (who has to be a Kopite surely) are happy with the mediocre crap we churn out season after season. It's called being risk averse lads, i.e. lets be happy with our lot because it could be worse. What a dire, unimaginitive and negative approach that is. Reach for the stars lads, lets take a few risks and start by getting rid of the cancer at our club because it's killing us. You're right about one thing though, BK and Moyes have done a fantastic job - in convincing half the fanbase that mediocrity is acceptable. Me, I want more, much more.

so L London. You want the Moyes era to carry on as long as possible so that ll be 10 more years without a pot 10 more years of going over the park, Old Trafford, the Emirates etc and putting 10 men behind the ball in the vain hope of snatching a point. 10 more years of negative over cautious football. 10 more years of him picking his favourites and 10 more years of bad starts only for January to come and were playing catch up. Er thanks but no thanks. My god some people are easily pleased.

I totally agree with Mikey – however I have to say I believe top five is not beyond if we keep the same squad (that would include peanuts). Why do I say this? Well Chelsea have to rebuild, Newcastle (Europe will kill them) Spurs will need a new manager, Liverpool have a crap manager. And Everton, well we have a great manager, a great squad, some good youngest coming through, and Jelly boy will get better which means we will always carry a goal threat.
I tell you, if ‘big if’ he’d have been here from the start of the season we’d have had 3 to 5 more wins which means we’d be up with the skunks

I reckon we should sell Rodder. Get a bit of money from him and then buy Peanuts and maybe someone to play behind the striker as Timmy isn't getting any younger. I think a start could be better because of Jelavic so he might sink in a few goals at the beginning of next season.

Well said numbers 2 & 7!
Here's to another decade of over-achieving (according to the media).
Seriously, there is no need for all the pessimism, angst or protests from some blues. Things could be slightly better, maybe .... BUT..
People have short memories, don't you all remember staying up on goal difference on the last day of the season?
The Johnson years, anyone?
Fancy reliving them days again?
Nah, I didn't think so....

The point of this thread, is how will we go into and continue on, in next season.
Well they need to sort a good pre-season out, its as simple as that. Ive never been one for shouting about who we should sign, we need more money etc, get them all fit and have a good pre season campaign, if there are any signings get them in early, or out, as the case may be, that will form the basis of a settled squad...every year we have left it late we start shyte, every year we have done our business early we have started very good, this is our lesson to learn.
Peanuts is a must, everything else can wait, if anyone should go it should be Rodwell, as much as he has great potential, his injuries and devaluing him all the time, never mind the fact he's off the pitch, Barkley to show more, whats happened Stellios???....
Dave Dexter, Aintree, 3:22 PM 26/04/2012

Mikeyboy is absolutely spot on. We should do everything we can to keep Moyes (who is the best manager in the Premiership) and allow him to keep building this excellent, honest and successful squad. It's a pleasure to support Everton at the moment(apart from having to read the incessant whinging from some quarters online). Frankly I want this Moyes era to last as long as possible.

My biggest worry is once again having to sell players just to keep afloat. IF we can keep the existing squad AND get back Peanuts we are on the way!

We can't go any higher in the league. I wish Moyes would look at new formations as the one against United worked. Why not try a 4-4-2 system with Jelavic leading the line and Straq alongside him. Maybe Felli could fill the role or they could rotate. Felli played one of his best games against United and looked like he was a natural striker. Cahill is not the player he was and it shows in every game. The midfield also needs changing and young players like Barkley should be used. We need 2 versatile defenders to fill in at right and left back. We have no cover for Baines and as much as I like Distin he is not a left back, his position is centre back alongside Johnny or Jags. Maybe Heitinga could play a roving defender role across the field.
Scouser, Liverpool, 1:37 PM 26/04/2012

If we made no signings, but lost no players either, I could see a better season. Jelavic has added a lot to our side and with him for a full season, I could see us getting closer to the top 6.
I also think next season we will see more of Barkley
Matt, Bristol, 1:28 PM 26/04/2012

I personally would be happy for us to continue as we are. Of course I would like more, we all would, but I’m not one of many fans who demands we spend money we haven’t got, nor do I have unrealistic demands of players we couldn’t afford. I think our club is well run with the resources we have. I would rather the club continue to be run as it is than for us to do a Leeds. They spent money they didn’t have trying to compete with the top clubs, they had some relative success, a Champions League semi final and a couple of top 4 finishes, but look at them now. Would any of us choose that? I think not. Everton are the best of the rest, a consistent top 8 club. We are currently the 7th best team in the country based on the table. Not bad for a club run on a shoestring budget. All the Premiership clubs below us will have to spend £millions just to get close to us. We have the best squad outside the top 5, and have some top class players.
Also, look at the quality of players we have at Everton, not just footballing ability but as human beings. We don’t have ego’s and selfish players, we have good honest pro’s who all want the same for the club. Imagine having a Gerrard, Terry, Suarez or Drogba in our team. Sure they are great players, but I couldn’t support those cheating, spitting, diving, overpaid scum bags. I’d rather have our players over these every time.
It’s time for our fans to appreciate what we have, and appreciate the job Moyes and Kenwright are doing for our club. So many fans demand we spend money we haven’t got, demand Kenwright sells when there isn’t a buyer. If anyone wanted to by the club then they would buy them. If they truly wanted the club and were right for the club they would own it by now.
I’m looking forward to the remaining games and then next season. Hopefully we’ll see Barkley emerge as the player he could be, as does Rodwell. Magaye will keep getting better. Shane looks decent. Jelavic looks class. Baines, Heitinga, Jagielka, Fellaini, Gibson, Osman and Cahill are all quality players. I just really hope we can sign Pienaar in the summer, he makes such a difference to us.
