Everton legend Joe Royle was the guest of honour as Ormskirk FC raised more than £2,500 towards funding their club's new junior teams and he was delighted to do so.

Big Joe was the star attraction at last Saturday's "An Evening with Joe Royle" gala event, which was attended by 200 people at Goodison. Money raised will go towards the purchase of kits, equipment and training accessories, as well as league fees, pitch fees and the essential day-to-day running costs.

Organiser Kevin Duffy said: 'Big Joe was more than happy to shake hands, stand for photographs and sign autographs all night and he made sure he took the time to speak to everyone in the room. He was a true gentleman.'

'The evening has been hailed as a massive success by all who attended, raising over £2500 for the club, which is absolutely fantastic for us.

'I honestly can't thank Joe enough for coming along and sharing his stories with us all, he was fantastic to be around and kept the room entertained, telling his tales from his time as a player and manager at Everton. It was a fantastic evening.'

Were you there? Tell us about the night you met Big Joe Royle.

A great player and a great character who loves his football. I've met Joe a few times and each time he was brilliant.

Bumped into Joe at a chinese restaurant during my Dad's birthday celebration a few years back. Couldn't stop my al fella (who had had a few too many Changs) from walkin over and hero worshipping him, I followed trying to squeeze in an apology to Joe but he wouldn't hear any of it and spoke to both myself and dad for well over half an hour about his time wit the blues wit some crackin' stories thrown into the bargain. Can only echo what Les below has said, a true true legend and absolute gentleman. I wasn't fortunate enough to see him play but from everything I'v heard he was a giant. Wonder how much paperwork it would take to get him in for the Rovers game as he would do a hell of alot better than some of the dross we've put up with up front this season.

I wasnt there as i live abroad, but many years ago i met Joe at Goodison during the "players lunch" that they used to run this was 1996, he even got out the FA Cup so all could have there photo taken with it and him, talked to everyone, fantastic fella, and even when we were outside the ground driving away in his car he put his hand up to say goodbye. This man IS a true legend and for me is far and above the many so called more recent legends, theres no comparison to him, a gent, ambassador, ex Manager, and the last TO WIN A TROPHY for us. Well done Joe, believe he is a Sinatra fan too, so cant be bad !
