What a night it was for Tony Hibbert and the 17,000 fans that turned up.
It was a competitive game from the start. And what a start it was. In the first minute Steven Naismith scored his first goal at Goodison in an Everton shirt and it wasn't be his last.
He was set up by Peanuts and he comfortably lobbed the ball over the Greek goalie.
We knew we were in for a proper game when AEK Athens scored a whopper of an equalizer. Some fella hit a cross from the left hand side and it got half cleared for Taxiarchis Fountas (Taxi to his mates) to hit a left foot screamer that gave Tim Howard no chance. He is only 16 and you would have thought he had scored the winner in the World Cup final. God bless him.
10 minutes later we were 2-1 and again it was Nace who provided the goal. Again Peanuts was the maker. He crossed for Nace to head in at the back post
After 35 minutes we had a bit of Hibbo magic. He was being asked to have a pop every time he got the ball. On this occasion he did. And what a whopper it was. The goalie tipped it over the bar for a corner.
From the corner Nace got his and Evertons third. The corner was swung over Felli hit the bar with a header and Nace was on had to smash the rebound in.
It looks like we have a player on our hands. I know it's early days, but I don't care. We are Evertonians
Half time Everton 3 AEK Athens 1
The second half started with Everton on top and in the 53rd minute we got what we came for. A Tony Hibbert goal. We got a free kick on the left edge of their box. Tony shouted "I'm havin it"
Bainsey and Peanuts set him up and Hibbo drilled a low flyer. It went through the wall and flew into the bottom of the corner. Oh my God he scored.
The Street went rioting. There was fun time mayhem. Hundreds got onto the pitch to try and touch our hero. I didn't get there. I fell over. Absolutely brilliant.
It took a bit of time for order to be restored. The Greeks didn't know what happened. It was hilarious. All I remember was Phil Neville trying to get people off the pitch. He had no chance.
I don't really know what happened for the rest of the game and I couldn't care less. Hibbo had scored on his night and that's all that mattered.
This season hasn't started and I was on my way to Flares with my kid brother.
Thanks Hibbo you deserve it.
