David Moyes selects his 10 favourite matches following a decade in charge at Everton.
David Moyes first walked through the doors of Goodison Park on Thursday 14 March 2002. To commemorate his 10th anniversary at Everton, the manager has revealed his ten favourite matches, each of which is featured on a new DVD, MOYES - 10 FROM 10.
On his arrival David Moyes coined the phrase 'The People's Club' and if that didn't instantly win him the hearts of all Evertonians, then the win against Fulham less than 48 hours later certainly did. Speaking openly about his memories of each match Moyes recounts his feelings ahead of his first game in charge but recalls how warmly he was received by the Everton fans that day saying: "I still remember walking out and was really nervous...but it was a great welcome I got from the supporters"
Moyes himself acknowledges that his final selection may surprise some but, with a fascinating insight into his reasons for each, this is a very personal account of his tenure at the club. One of those less obvious picks is an away trip to Leeds United in 2002 but, with Everton going into the game having not won a league match at Elland Road in over 50 years, it is remembered fondly by the manager, who reveals that he still has a picture at home in which winning goalscorer Wayne Rooney revels in the moment as he celebrates with the visiting fans.
Some other selections are a little less surprising, with victories over Manchester United and Liverpool both featuring, together with some impressive European encounters but, with so many to choose from, the decision making process was not an easy one - so much so that at the manager's request a bonus eleventh match has been included.
