Everton did Gary Speed proud yesterday with a wonderful pre-match tribute to our ex-Captain who took his own life so tragically last weekend.
Images of Gary filled the big screen, the was a montage of Gary's playing days at Everton and the Welsh flag was flying half-mast over Goodison.
Both teams came out to the Welsh National Anthem, Land of My Fathers, then made their way to the centre circle. They were joined by ex teammates of Gary, Dave Watson, Craig Short, Michael Ball, David Unsworth, Willie Donnachie, Earl Barrett, Joe Parkinson and Duncan Ferguson. The players were followed by Gary's father Roger Speed who was accompanied by two family friends Andy Larkin and John Ratcliffe.
Rossy announced to perfection and a minute's applause followed, the ref blew at the end of 60 seconds and the Z-Cars theme blasted out.
A fitting tribute to Gary Speed, Footballer-Gentleman-Evertonian.
