It is bad enough when a child being seriously ill, there is never a good time, but at Christmas it is even harder to take.
Everton FC has supported Alder Hey Children's Hospital for many years, other clubs have since followed suit likewise in their own towns and it is wonderful to see.
Yesterday Everton players and management delighted the kids and staff with another visit to Alder Hey.
The annual Christmas event saw the squad tour wards and hand out presents. The players handed out gifts and also signed balls and shirts for some of the youngsters.
Ms Chris Done, fundraising manager for hospital charity the Imagine Appeal, said: "It was an amazing visit. All the children really loved it. There is always a lovely atmosphere when the players come in, the children get very excited and some who have been discharged wait around to see them!'
'It is so kind of the players to give up their time and engage with the children and their families.'
'Massive thanks to all the doctors, nurses and staff for all their work.'
'It is quite funny how forthright the children are with their questions, they ask all sorts. But the players answer everything. It was a great day for patients, families and staff too.'
Johnny Heitinga posted a photograph on Twitter on the visit, describing the experience as "priceless".
Tim Cahill Tweeted: 'Enjoyed spreading Christmas spirit. Inspiration at its finest today at Alder Hey Hospital.'
If this doesn't get you then nothing will. 3 points would be nice but this really puts it all into perspective.
Well done Everton.
P.S. Adam, Aged 6, Childwall said: 'It was nice to put a smile on their sad faces, they have faced a difficult season so far.'
