Everton have confirmed two more pre-season friendlies.

Against Motherwell on Saturday, 21 July and then Blackpool on Sunday, 5 August.

The game against Motherwell at Fir Park takes place three days after the Dundee United game and is a testimonial for long-serving Motherwell player Stevie Hammell.

The Bloomfield Road visit in August is also a testimonial, with former Everton reserve team captain Keith Southern the player being honoured.

Keith Southern said: 'I'm absolutely delighted. I got wind yesterday that it was definitely going to be Everton, which is perfect.'

'When I signed a new contract in September and was told I would have a testimonial there was only one club I really wanted it to be against.'

Ticket information and kick-off times are yet to be announced.

Friendlies confirmed to date are:

14 July - Morecambe v Everton - 2pm
18 July - Dundee United v Everton - 7.45pm
21 July - Motherwell v Everton - TBC
5 Aug -   Blackpool v Everton - TBC

Blackpool is exactly the type of team we should be playing in preseason. I reckon we should have a few championship teams lined up. You cant have friendlies against prem teams in preseason, so this is as close as we'll get. The quicker we get used to playing fast paced English football in preseason the better. We never look ready for it after playing abroad. We should get home earlier and get stuck in so our season doesnt start in January like usual

Have to agree with alpha1. I think the fact that we always have a slow start to the season and that we play (all due respect) average and below average teams is no coincidence. I would love them to enter tournaments against top teams of better calibre (who cares about what the results are). I mean, compare the teams Everton play against versus the teams who finished in the top 6 places, who they play in the pre season friendlies. No comparison. Its all about hitting the ground running but I suppose Mr Moyes, what do we know….

I think the games against Blackpool and Morecambe as testimonials for 2 Evertonians is not only a great gesture but will provide a good run out for the squad. We should also have a more prestigious game at Goodison TBA yet.

Good to see we are testing ourselves against the elite teams yet again! Why oh why can we not play in any tournaments where the big boys play?
