From Player of the Season to substitute, Johnny Heitinga must be feeling frustrated at present. The international break has given Johnny a chance once again to shine for the Netherlands however he feels that the team must focus on the future under coach Louis van Gaal and not dwell on the memories of their recent disappointments.
Led by Bert van Marwijk, who took them to the 2010 FIFA World Cup Final, the Dutch crashed out of EURO 2012 at the group stage after losing all three of their matches.
His successor Van Gaal, returning for a second spell in the job, then endured suffered a 4-2 friendly defeat in Belgium last month in his first game back. However, the new boss returned to winning ways in Friday's 2-0 home victory over Turkey in Group D.
Johnny is looking to continue those winning ways in tonight's clash with Hungary in Budapest.
Johnny said: "It is now time to look ahead."
"I want the next two years to be of value to this team."
"The European Championships performance was mediocre, but let us not forget that under him we also came second in the World Cup."
"It is now time to look ahead, however. I want the next two years to be of value to this team and I know that I can be and at Everton, should I start playing again."
Good luck tonight Johnny.
Johnny has that winning mentality. Nothing less than a win against the Skunks next week or Johnny will be banging on Moyesy's door.
Should Johnny be in the Everton starting line up? What do you think?
