Financial Disaster!

Hong Kong businessman and former owner of Portsmouth AFC Balu Chainrai has withdrawn another bid to buy the club and save it from liquidation. The administrator is Trevor Birch, who lasted six weeks as our CEO some years ago.

Chainrai said: "Portpin Ltd regrets to announce that it is withdrawing its bid for Portsmouth Football Club.

"Unfortunately, our efforts to save the club once more from extinction have hit a wall of rejection and lacking co-operation from the administrator and other interested parties.

"We are not the ones who have caused the club to collapse and we are not the ones to choose PKF as administrators.

"As history has recorded, we sold the club over a year ago after saving it from liquidation and unfortunately found ourselves again fighting to try and save the club from another liquidation.

"Through this administration process over the last six months we have always had the club's best interest in mind - unlike many parties who were involved in the process.

"We repeatedly encouraged the administrator to find a new, willing and able buyer to take over the club - unfortunately he was unsuccessful in this job and couldn't find a buyer despite his promises.

"Later he approached us to be his safety net to save the club as he couldn't find a buyer. We agreed in the effort to avoid liquidation of the club.

"We welcome and will assist anyone, including the supporters trust to try and save the club in the coming days."

Chainrai's withdrawal leaves only the Pompey Supporters Trust as prospective buyers for the club.

They said: "We call on Mr Chainrai to do the decent thing and accept the PST offer to purchase his charge on the club, and therefore walk away from Pompey, regaining some of the money he has lost, and leaving the club in the hands of the people who will truly cherish it and ensure that it continues as both a business and a legacy for the future.

"SOS Pompey has campaigned for Mr Chainrai to finally leave Pompey and we hope that this latest news could be the light at the end of the tunnel, which ultimately returns the club to the fans.

"Portsmouth FC is the lifeblood of the fans and the city and we ask all supporters of the club, the people of Portsmouth and football as a whole, to support the work of the Pompey Supporters Trust in their continued efforts to secure its future.

"Pledges are still wanted and both these and donations can be made via http://www.pompeytrust.com."

Portsmouth won the FA Cup in 2008 and then Harry Redknapp walked out as manager just months before they suffered financial collapse. All very sad.

So....be careful what you wish for?

Beware of rights issues. There are different types and some of them are just rip offs where the money (or some of it) doesn't go to the club's benefit. You don't always get what you think anyway. Check out the manc issue on the NYSE.

There are jackals, piranhas, vultures and all forms of predators wearing cheap suits who would love to get their grubby little talons into our great club.Obviously we would all welcome with open arms an investor who has a genuine affiliation with us and Bill feels 100% about relinquishing the reigns, but until that day dawns,we tick along in our inimitable style,no dirty washing being aired in the papers.Mr.Kenwright has come in for much criticism in recent times, but without his unconditional passion for this club and his awareness of those who don't have Everton Football Club in their best interests well that surely cannot be a bad ideology. Here's a flip side worth imagining,a cocktail bar in Asia or The Middle East,a couple of grifters representing a faceless individual, the subject to buy a premier league outfit, having shared there area of particular attention i.e. clubs looking for cash injections, these charlatans talk about what could be my club like a speckle of dan druf on a charity shop shirt. This is what is occurring this very minute somewhere in a dimly lit bar,in fact it's so brazen now it may well be the most illuminated watering establishment near a 5 star hotel. This is why i applaud the stance we undertake,we do not want to become another square on a monopoly board and end up with a go to gaol card for bankruptcy.Patience is needed like never before and i know were a loyal tribe who can score straight A's in this subject. So as long as we are not mentioned in an undercover sting on expose documentaries such as Dispatches and Panorama, then were doing ok keeping the jackals from our door.

By now everybody knows Kenwright and the board want to sell their shares. Unfortunately nobody with money wants to buy the club and that's the problem. You can't force people to buy something they don't want. Even if the club does sell, would Moyesie stay if some Italian or Thai gangster bought it? I doubt it. Some people seem to think there's a ready easy answer but there isn't.

Well Doug, would you be happy to end up like Portsmouth etc............Blue Bill wants out....we all know that......but I would sooner him stay for now and take the right advice about who he should sell to.........oh,and even if he does make a profit,so be it.........I bet you he will not be asking Rick Parry for any advice though.............

So we should just aim for the Dizzy Heights of Premier League status John? Is that what NSNO stands for? Or is that what the board would have us aiming for? I'm getting a little bored of the board and "Main Stream"always comparing us to Leeds and Pompy!

Totally agree. We would all love Everton to have a modern stadium, spending loads on players just like champ manager (or City) but in the real world (and City are not) we're doing the best we can. I feel proud to be a blue. Not really upset about Rodwell leaving and if we get the Belgian fella, Adam Johnson (bit pie in the sky there) then well done blues. Get's me back up, but as many people have pointed out on here who would take us over? There isn't anyone so let us be supporters, get behind the blues on Monday night and start off with a blinding 3 points. I sense a great season ahead. Oh, what self respecting man drinks Crabbies before watching a footy match?

I wish I could be as optimistic as John @ 1, but I'm not. Kenwright said years ago things couldn't go on as they are. I think they'll sell up within two or three years. What concerns me then is who they sell to. There's plenty of conmen out there. Birch has said nobody will buy the club while we're stuck at Goodison and that sounds right to me. I think we're walking a razor edge until we get a new stadium. If we had a really bad run of luck there's no telling what could happen. Doesn't bear thinking about really.

Can't agree anymore with John from The Shires. We must be one of the most prudently run clubs in the country. It's no surprise that clubs like Newcastle are following suit and refusing to pay ridiculous transfer fees and wages. Yes it's sad we have to sell our young talent now and again but it's a damn sight better than being a Portsmouth fan at the moment. Feeling optimistic for the new season, a very pleasant change.

And this is what could, and I mean could, happen to Everton if we do not live in the financial real world. Yes we got 12Million (ish) for Rodwell; however, if we pay 6 million on a new player with wages of 2 million a year for 5 years (plus win bonuses) it has all but gone, and this is not exactly splashing out in this bonkers football world. Stick to our tried and tested formula – find gems in lower or foreign leagues, develop our youth, maintain our culture and keep our integrity. That way the team we love will always be able to compete in the top flight of English football.
