Important Period For Saha
Bookmark and Share

Louis doesn't just need goals to extend his career, his all round game has got to be on the ball. His future will depend on it. David Moyes is expecting him to come good

A goal or two would today at Sunderland would be a good start. Do your best Louis.

Moyes said: "I expect Louis to come good in the second half of the season. He not only needs to score goals for us, but if he wants to prove himself to anybody else then he needs to as well.

"I have always thought that players play better in the last year of their contract, because they are either proving it to their current employers or to any new suitors. That's how I have seen it in my time.

"I am open minded on his future. We will not say too much about it now, and to be honest I have not given it an awful lot of thought.

"There is an incentive there, but there is an incentive for anybody. It is up to Louis to show he is up to it."

"We tend to wait, with respect to the older boys, until later on before we offer contracts. We don't throw contracts at people just because of their age. But the boys know how it works."

"At the turn of the year Louis had a good run, where he scored a few goals."

"His game is not all about goals though, he is someone who can link play up as well, that has always been his game.

"So we wouldn't necessarily judge him on his goals alone.

"But he is in the last year of his contract, and that is something we will look at further down the line."

I totally agree with the boys; I wouldn't renew Saha's contract. His fitness record is abysmal and when he's available, he's inconsistent. He's been poor this season and we need some new and young blood.

Happy Christmas Lads! Saha will be back off to France next month. Hopefully Cahill will be behind him. These two have had half a season to show the talent needed and its not happening. Thanks lads, but we need the wages back. Our team vs Sunderland today was not only too old, it was tactically wrong and lucky to get a point. The spine of our team was Distin, 34, Neville, 36, Cahill, 31 and Saha 34. All looked uncomfortable physically and creatively. Sunderlands midfield and forwards had the run on us too often and a top 5 team would have punished us. The idea that Johnny and Neville would ever be box to box midfielders is laughable... so we effectively had six defenders on the pitch...We need a clear out as much as we need new blood but the players who could have been used from the start - Barkley, Velios, Straaq, Gueye - get 10 minutes or less and see Mcfadden chosen before them. They must wonder what is going on. When I see Round with a clip board drawing lines and plans for vellios to come on with 6 minutes to go, its obvious that the management has run out of ideas. Ship out the old dogs now and BK needs to sit Moyes down and tell him he needs to buck up too.

Saha is a spent force. Get rid with a transfer fee now, and bring some decent talent in. £3m a season plus what £2.5m transfer fee frees up some funds to get something better. Saha in another year is only going to get worse.

Saha is probably one of the best strikers we have had at Everton in a long time. Yes his pace has gone and, at the moment his confidence is low. However, you show me one striker in the premiership who would score more than ten goals with the kind of service he gets at Everton. The long 'thump' in the air from Jags, Distin and Heitinga is awful and does no help Sahas game in any way. Unfortunately, due to Evertons current style of play, with two 'holding midfielders', the gap between midfield and the strikers is too big, resulting in the back four having to lump it in the air. Apart from Osman, there is no craft in midfield starving saha of any quality service.
