Royston Disciplined
46 comments
Bookmark and Share

Some weeks ago when Royston Drenthe went missing we reported that he had been sacked. But the club came out that he was missing due to "compassionate leave."

Now the rumours are flying around that he has been on the ale and therefore was left out of the semi squad. Why don't the club want to tell us what's going on?

Everton spokesman said: "Royston Drenthe has been the subject of a disciplinary matter. This has been dealt with internally and the club will be making no further comment."

Reality is Drente is a good player, but he is a liability to a team like Everton at this present time. On the pitch he is a maverick great to watch when things are going his way, does not work for the team, only shines when we are playing well, an impact player. Off the pitch he is a lose cannon. Prima-Donna, who has caused trouble from when he was a junior in Holland.

I think Royston's departure may be inevitable whatever happens. If we are to secure Peanuts on a permanent contract we will need to scrape some cash together for Spurs and put together a generous pay package for Nuts. Royston would also want top wages and Madrid would want a transfer fee. Could we afford both? Probably not. And I know which of the two I want to stay the most.

Moyesie took a gamble with him, it didn't come off, pity. But it's Drenthe's own fault. He obviously has no personal discipline, which means he will never become a Premiership player unless he has the strength of character to change his behaviour. It's down to himself, nobody else. I'm guessing but I don't think there's a chance in hell he'll make it.

Top player, but probably too risky. Agree with part of Pip's comments we do need quality players but there has to be respect on his side too for Moyes, his team mates etc., so I'd be surprised if he stays in the summer. Yes, he would have been an outlet at Wembley but he does need to do some tracking back too ( this doesn't make him a work horse ).

The only reason we are even talking about him is because Peanuts was cup-tied on Saturday. Drenthe is trouble and, as previously stated, will lose you as many points as he wins you in a season. Moyes - Git rid and use whatever money it takes to get Pienaar back from Spurs!!

There's rumours saying he's going to the shite. If he does that tells you everything about him and them. They deserve each other.

Love him or loathe him (surely there's no-one out there who'd go that far?) he could well 've made the difference on Saturday.

Pip you really do need to rethink what you said. Drenthe is a good player and has got talent but to say things like that about Ferguson and Carsley is stupid. Plus if I was a manger i would expect every player to give 100% all the time no matter what there ability level is.

I had high hopes for Royston. The pace, the ball control, the finishing and the self belief all indicated another great bit of business for Moysey. I'm sure he would have improved given time and stopped giving the ball away in dangerous positions so often. A real shame if he has blown his chance. I would still like to see him turn things around, but I have to agree that Everton cannot carry a Balotelli type loose cannon.

It beggars belief when I read comments like Mr Pip from Merseyside ! Are you actually Mr Hansen of MOD fame ? All are entitled to their opinion but having been a true blue for well over 50 years and had good and bad times - God I've had some bad times ! - your comments Mr Pip give me the Pip - utter garbage. I wish you had seen the likes of Albert Dunlop /Brian Harris( the star for me) / Tommy Wright / Gary Stevens / Alan Whittle / Jimmy Husband - and also the likes of Jo Parkinson Lee Carsley. They all bled for the cause - Mr Drenthe is a good footballer - an individual. However no team can carry an individual. No club can have a law unto himself. You Mr Pip are in cloud cuckoo land - the young Mr Dizze rascal Drenthe is better off with Simon Cowell. He has like many other young wannabees blown his chance. He was in last chance saloon and sadly ( I mean that) decided to choose his destiny. Really foolish - somewhat like your ill chosen remarks ! Go sit on the naughty step you HeadtheBall and listen to older wiser guys who have responded to your post.

Pip, don't even mention his name alongside Ferguson, Unsworth, Carsley, Horne and Parkinson. To say these players had little or no skill and just 100% commitment shows how little you know about football. Let's have him break club rules and disrupt a well built up team spirit so that he can show a few flashes of brilliance then spend the rest of his time on his arse claiming free kicks when he hasn't been fouled and not getting back to help his team mates. Every top player has to put in the work, Messi, Henry, Van Persie etc. Know your history, sounds like you know fuck all

Get rid. Defensive liability and a disaster waiting to happen. The few flashes of brilliance we have seen are not enough to risk keeping a pisssshead. Pienaar twice the player/professional.

See how he does when Moyesie has fucked him off. He'll end up in the cheesehead third division. Nob ed.

If he's a piss head get rid, but no club is going to come out and say that because they never do. He's always looked like a disaster waiting to happen, like Gazza. It's his own fault, nobody else's.

John Buchanan, the Australia Cricket coach, was once asked why Mark Ramprakash had never quite made it in Test cricket...Buchanan said Ramps was "afflicted with talent" i.e. he didn't have the mental strength to go with the brilliance...perhaps RD has been "afflicted with talent."

When Ferguson dropped Berbatov for the Champions league final, he stormed out of the ground...[1] he was the leading scorer in the premiership at the time [2] he was at the ground in the first place...neither of these things apply to Drenthe. Everton are like an army...and every soldier needs to know, that when the bullets start to fly, the guy next to you isn't going to bottle out because he 'can't be arsed'. RD is talented...but that alone is not enough...Andy Van Der Meyde was talented !!

Drenthe would do well at Liverpool. His constant diving would be rewarded with penalties all the time if he played for them! In all seriousness, I really want to like this guy, he's obviously a talented player, but.... he has a shockingly poor attitude. That's why he keeps changing clubs so frequently. It's frustrating because we need someone with pace and power, but also someone who works hard and acts professionally. We won't be seeing Royston next season. He hasn't shown his talent often enough for us to take a risk on him.

Mr Drenthe I witnissed your first game for Everton (Everton vs Villa res) You looked exciting and full of atitude. I paid I think 1% of your weekly wage to get into the National stadium not taking into account the travel expenses and other sundries. We made the trip with belief and hope that today we might just work one. You on the oether hand if rumour has it couldnt even be arsed to turn up o time for the coach. Pathetic! I really can't fathom some of the some of the other commments if hes let the club down hes let himself down more. We have rules for a reason no exceptions if hes above that or consideres himself above it, hes a total fool and a libility where ever he goes. I would have loved to see him score or create that pass that allowed us to progress, he didnt and I think his actions have signed his on fate.

I can see Newcastle coming in for him next season and he blows us all out the water! Moyes has to do a Manchini on this guy for the sake of the club! He's just too good and nothing fases him (except himself on a bad day maybe)

Fuck him off, so what he's had a handful of good games he's also had a handful of shite ones. We're not a team that can afford to have a player that's not prepared to work hard. If he's been left out the sides biggest game of the season am sure its a little more than turning up late on Friday its probably a few things he's been up to that's led to it. I'll show me arse in Lewis's window if he plays for the Blues again. Bye Bye R.R. Drenthe its been nice knowing yeh.

So, turning up late for training and not taking our biggest game of the season seriously should warrant a slap on the wrists? He let the club down and one thing about Everton which nobody can take away is our team spirit and he could affect that. He is arrogant and let the RS have him, would fit in well with them clowns! Has ability but no brain to go with it.... By the sounds of things he has been at it all season.

Its says alot that the manager would rather play the likes of Anichebe Coleman etc rather than a player with skills and pace and most of all no fear. If Royston was playing every week he might have a bit more respect for the club. If he had of played every game would we be in a better position. FACT yes we would and maybe in FINAL of the FA CUP.

Loose canon, hugely over rated. He's a 60 minute sub and nothing more - start him and he'll either run out of steam or make some huge cock up. We're better off without him. If he wants to fuck off to Liverpool, let him go.

Team spirit has been one of our strengths as a club during DM's tenure as our manager. It takes years to build yet seconds to destroy. All the people directing their anger towards Moyes are deluded. Probably just still upset with the result. As much as I like Drenthe and his ability to create a goal out of nothing, he is just as likely to cost us a goal or two. If he is acting in an unprofessional manner then he has to be punished immediately. What message will it send out to the younger players in the club if he got to play in the semi-final despite the fact he had breached club rules? I hope that this hasn't been a ploy by the other side to disrupt our preparations for that game, getting into his head and promising him the earth but I wouldn't be surprised. We can't let his attitude become infectious to the squad so let him go before any more disruption. IMWT

Pip what a terrible comment saying Drenthe doesnt have to work as hard as others because he is talented. It just shows you know nothing about the game. Anybody who plays for Everton or anybody for that matter should be giving 100% regardless of there ability. Rooney although I hate him for what he did in leaving Everton is ten times the player Drenthe is yet it one of the hardest working players in the world. Also are you going to tell me Messi doesn't work hard? That's why they are where they are and Drenthe is wasting his talent and has never been a hit.

Think we've done alright out of him this season. Considering he's on loan were only paying half his wages and he's created and scored goals. But his temperament was questioned when we got him, so this isn't a big surprise. With our recent track record of discipline being a priority and the fact pienaar would probably want less money and is for me a far better player. We will go for peanuts rather than drenthe, too expensive and a gamble too far. Loan deals here we come. Would also like to see barkley and junior next pre season.

By sounds of it, he's got history of turning up late for training and unprepared whilst at Everton and how i see it is, is that were covering his arse by saying he's out on compasionate leave and then he's constantly shitting on us by being unproffesional and turning up late, even for an important FA Cup semi!. Personally, i'd take him to them cunts myself and they can put up with him. If he took his career seriously and knuckled down, he'd be great but he'll always have baggage and isnt worth keeping, he would ruin are great team spirit and bond IMO!.

If the guy can't be bothered to get work on time, especially for a Wembley semi-final, then leave him at home. What does it say if he gets a place after doing this and Maggie or Seamus sit on the bench.

Its clear that he divides opinions, but i reckon whatever talent he has, his ego has taken over. What a time to mess the club around and break the rules. Why would any Premiership club take him seriously now?

Cant understand anyone coming out on his side. The manager picks the team and he has shown that whilst he can win games he can also lose them.Yes he would have been great to have on the bench yesterday as we had zero width which is why we lost, but if he won't behave then he cannot be selected. There has to be discipline in the club and if he can't accept that then there cannot be a place for him.He won't last half a season with Liverpool or anyone else- why do you think Real and the other team he went to got rid? And as for Pip deriding Ferguson,Carsley,Parkinson's- my god I wish they had been out there yesterday.Very disappointing day but apart from no width I thought we looked old and lacking vitality and not physically strong enough.Denis should have been on at half time if not the start as Jelavic needed support and wasn't getting it.

When he does the business he's amazing, going the other way he's diabolical and no amount of coaching seems to help. Over a season he'd probably bag you an extra 9 points but you're just as likely to drop 9 with his attitude to tracking back!

With Cahill, Osman, Gueye, Neville and Anichebe filling this cab then one more passenger just won`t fit in. Have to get your thumb out and hitch another freebie Royston. P.S. Has anyone considered that Ross Barkley might be Keyser Soze? "Puff and like that he`s gone."

Should never play again and knowing moyse's past history with this type of incident, probably won't. Inconsistent, sometimes a liability and a hold him as much accountable for yesterday as the rest of the bottler's, who freeze when we play the redshite. Honestly, they are so ordinary, but the always beat us. I'm sick of it and the players need to get their heads sorted out as it's a mental barrier, rather than anything to do with better players. Do one Royston, I'll drive you to Mellwood

ARE YOU LOT HAVING A LAUGH!!! Drenthe has been one of our best players this season; he attacks defenders with pace and power, he's not afraid to shoot... YOU IDIOTS! Our biggest problem yesterday was that our 2 most creative players were missing; Drenthe & Peanuts. With Drenthe in the team we would have been 3-0 up at half time, Liverpool (especially Agger) were there for the taking in the opening 45, Osman was SHITE. Drenthe attacking from the right allows space on the left for Bainesy, do the math people! Drenthe is free in the summer, total no brainer- and he's only 24/25! MOYES SIGN UP DRENTHE & PEANUTS IN THE SUMMER!

He has shown a total lack of respet for his team mates, the supporters and the club, especially at the time of probably the most important game of our seasonn. Let him go, the dark side deserve him.

am i the only one who is considering Drenthe to be a poormans Balotelli? He has the flashes of skill and the attitude but he can sure be a liability off the pitch. I personally would love to see him hone his skills as an EFC player but drop the Real Madrid ego. Whether this happens, well i don't know.

Hes a ticking timeBomb and no one knows what goes on in his mind both off and on the park. Hed have been useful on the bench yesterday to come on as a shock impact sub, but it was not to be .. Still it looks like we wont see him again, let the RS take him, imagine him and Bellamy having if off any thing to spike their set up.

I personally wouldn't blame him for crossing the divide and joining Liverpool, why on earth should he show any respect what so ever to everton and moyes, when they've showed such a lack of respect to him? Every single time he's won us a game pretty much single handedly this season, he's been dropped for the next game. I think every sane Evertonian would agree, that he would have almost certainly made a difference in the game on Saturday, as we had nothing to offer what so ever on the counter attack, which is why we were swamped in that second half, unlike the almost identical games at home to spurs and man city this season, where drenthe provided that constant threat meaning the opposition had to keep at least four players back at all times to combat his threat alongside our lone striker. As all blue noses know though, this is probably the one club in the league where fans and managers a like, are more than happy to sit and watch a player with absolutely no talent at all act professionally, give 100% but have absolutely no talent what so ever and in many cases, be seen as a legend of the club i.e. Ferguson, Unsworth, Parkinson, Horne, Carsley just to name a few. Royston shouldn't be expected to put the same amount of graft in as the likes of Neville, Gibson, Coleman, Cahill etc as he offers 10 times as much as those players doing the things that someone of his position should be doing, scoring and creating goals, which in turn, he has.

He turned up late on Friday when the team were heading to Wembley apparently which suggests he is not even a little bit interested so I don't expect to see him again, and its not as though we lost because Drenthe was missing. He is as much a liability as he is a threat on the pitch and off it his attitude stinks. Won't be missed.

Gutted about the game yesterday but Not bothered that Drenthe because he's a liability on the pitch and don't think he could have done much to change things, anyway If the latest rumours are true about him wanting to go to liverpool then that's OK because he'll be crap for them too, he can't defend and is too easy to go over, doesn't win tackles and is temperamental, Bye Roy.

At what point does a manager have to swallow his pride and put the good of the club above usual discpline standards? Or even bend the rules a bit (suspend him after the semi?)? Few would argue that Drenthe would have made a huge difference yesterday, and could have possibly been the missing factor that could have won it for us. I don't know the answer, I can see both sides, but man, would have loved to seen him in the starting line up yesterday. Totally gutted.
