Jags Ready To Fight For His Place
Bookmark and Share

Phil Jagielka says he is happy to fight for his first team place at Everton.

Jags missed out at Wembley, again, at the weekend when Moyesy opted for his FA Cup centre half pairing of Johnny and Buzz, he is likely to return to the side for the Premier League clash this weekend against Manure at Old Trafford on Sunday.

With just five games left in the Premier League Jags is hoping to make the Euro 2012 squad this summer but he is aware he is in a squad situation at Everton.

Jags said: 'If my role is to keep John and Sylvain playing as well as they can or to give them a rest for a game, I'll do that'.

'It's not ideal for me, but we are part of a team and a squad that want to do well.'

Who should our centre back pairing be between Jags, Johnny and Buzz? Who would you have?

Now that Baines is out for the season, why not play Jonny and Jags at the back and Distin left back? He has a great left foot and is fast as.. Just an idea.

Buzz shouldn't be dropped as the result of one mistake. Drop him and all he can do is dwell on it. He needs the next game to show that it was a isolated lapse and prove, once again, what a quality defender he is. Jags needs to get a game at some point, but dropping Buzz now would be very poor man management.

Distin made the worst of mistakes but we all know what he is capable of (ie being Mr Cool in the most testing of defensive situations). His confidence needs to be restored, and what better way than Moysey starting him in the next game. To leave him out would totally demoralise him and, in heart of hearts, we all know what he means to the club.

Drop Distin now and the lad might not recover. Play him and get behind the team and things will pick up again instead of dropping our best defender of the season! Everyone makes mistakes lads.

Sorry but Distin has to be rested after that monumental error at Wembley. Moyes has shown in the past that there is a price to pay for that kind of mistake especially when there is a player of Jags ability ready to step in.

Gotta disagree with Greg. Distain has been outstanding all season and needs to be backed now more than ever! Dropping him will do him no good whatsoever. I'm still hurting now but now is the time for the team and fans to galvanise! COYB FTRS

I know none of the top teams play 3-5-2 and there must be a reason for that but I reckon we should try. We have the players that fit that formation. We have 3 good centre backs in Jags, Jonny and Distin. Baines is a natural wing back and would provide great service for the front 2. This would allow Moyes the security of 3 in centre mid, one being Peanuts who is our most influential player. He could pull the strings, make things happen and be dangerous just infront of Gibbo and Felli. This formation would also allow 2 up top so Jelly has a bit of support.

Might be time to give Johnny and Jags a go after the weekend !
