Leighton Baines is surprised at being named in the PFA Team of the Year.

Bainesy, who is hoping to be fit before the season ends became the first Everton player since Neville Southall in 1990 to be included in the line-up.

Leighton said: "I didn't really feel like I should be in it to be honest, but I was still delighted to be chosen, especially because it's voted by players which means a lot.

"It's nice to be recognised in that category of players like Clichy and Cole.

"I don't think I've been the best left-back in league this season, but if other people think I have then obviously that's great. It's a surprise, there have been players who I feel have done better."

Bainsey is without doubt a fine left back. The question is: Is he our best ever? Here are three I can think of who might challenge him for that honour. Ray Wilson, Mike Pejic, Pat Van den Hauwe.

The best left back in the country and a model professional to boot. Modest and dignified. Cashley Cole take note!

He should've been in it last year. He's not been as good this year as he was last year, but he's still easily best left back in the prem and on his day I can't name a better left back in the world.

It's typical for the man that Bainsey is the only Evertonian who feels he is not worthy of this recognition. Beside his obvious technical and tactical skills, I think his selflessness and modesty are key factors in making him such a great player. Always putting the Club and his teammates first he constantly gives 100% both ends of the pitch and never shirks responsibility. Too many players have too high a regard of themselves and start easing off, but Bainsey is always on his toes. He's surely the best left back we've ever had - but I don't mind him not realizing that for some time yet!

Just enjoy it Bainsey you're the best left back in the country and there's nothing you can say to defend you from the praise you deserve. Well done lets hope we start well next year then you'll be able to be recognised as the best left back in Europe's Elite. COYB IMWT.
