Two Year Deal For Jose

Jose Baxter, the reserve team captain is to be offered a new two year contract with Everton. The twenty year old has been at Everton since he was six and was supposed to be 'the next big thing'.

Jose became Everton's youngest ever senior player aged 16 years and 191 days, but the young midfielder has found it difficult to get a place in the senior squad only playing a few first team games since then.

Recently though he has been on loan at Tranmere were he impressed and has returned to help the reserve side finish third in the league. In turn Jose has been on the bench for recent first team games against Stoke and Wolves in the Premier League.

Lets hope the contract, which will keep him at Goodison Park until 2014 will inspire him to get himself in the first team.

He could do with a loan to a championship side or premier new comer next season- you cant judge him on his form for tranmere. Look at Ossie though- never really made the breakthrough until quite late on and he's a similar kind of player- both a little bit lightweight but technically good. We're not gonna get any money for Jose and he could turn out a very decent squad player AND he's local which is always a bonus. (Plus we can pay him in monopoly money ;)

Absolutely pointless keeping him on. Let him get a lower league club to take him on. Like a headless chicken when he plays. Too frustrating to watch. Some players are like boxers, good amateur career (youth, reserves) but cannot do it as a pro (1st team).

Jose has never shown me anything to prove that he has the ability to perform at the top level, I just hope he can take this 2 year contract and do something with it

Good look to the lad but every time iv seen him come on he's looked totally out of his depth, first touch has been awful and runs like a thunderbird.

Once he has learnt to stop going forward and defend more then he might be given more of a chance in the 1st team!! negative is the way backwards

I have to be honest and say he has never really done it for me. He is one of the fringe players we should be looking to get off our books although if his wages aren't too much then perhaps there is a case for keeping him. We do need to shift on some players though as our wage bill is way too much - it's either the fringe players or 1 or 2 of the first teamers and I know which I would prefer

Maybe he will turn out similar to Osman? He broke through late after a few successful loan spells at lower league clubs. I'd be happy if Jose turned out as good as Leon.

Jose should be breaking his bollocks on a new contract. He is good enough. He's just got to show it.
