Everton Confirm Tim Is Leaving

Yesterday, Blue Kipper exclusively announced that Tim Cahill was leaving Everton to join New York Red Bulls.

Our Snout got in touch just before 4pm and by 10.30pm it was official.

A sad day for Evertonians to see Timmy or Tiger Tim or The Blue Kangaroo (or whatever name you like to call him) finally leaving Everton after eight years.

Everton have agreed a £1m fee with the Red Bulls where our Australian international, who had two years remaining on his contract at Goodison Park, will sign terms a lucrative deal in the next 24 hours. He will team up with Thierry Henry.

Tim has been a mainstay at Everton arriving from Millwall in the summer of 2004 and Moyesy described him as 'one of the greatest signings I have ever made'. He scored 68 goals in 278 appearances for Everton and was linked with moves to Saudi Arabia and China earlier this year.

Even though some will say that the time is right for Tim Cahill to leave (he certainly had his critics last season) one thing is for sure, he will never be forgotten.

Twice the Blue Kipper Star Man Player of the Year, we had the honour of meeting Tim as well as witnessing some great moments on the pitch.

Thanks for the memories Tim, corner flags can rest oce again, best of luck in the future.

What is your favourite Tim Cahill moment?

Me and my boy (a Leeds fan!) were lucky enough to see the boys play against Sydney FC a few years back. After the game Tim walked round the pitch signing shirts etc for anyone who wanted his autograph. It took him nearly an hour to get to us, and we were only halfway in the queue. A true sportsman, ambassador and little Aussie battler who makes me proud to be an Evertonian and all we stand for. Go Tim - enjoy your time in New York, but I'm hoping you'll come back and play in the Aussie A-League when your contract's up.

75 comments and counting I think says it all. You will be sorely missed Tim. I hope you see all these comments. I have no idea what number & name my 12 year old daughter will have on her new shirt. She is devastated! Me too.

What a great player to wear the royal blue. Every moment he wore the shirt was the best! Best of luck in the future Tim mate. Coyb!

My memory of T.C. is that before practically every game last season when Blue Kipper asked a fan of the opposing team who is the player they fear most it was almost exclusively "Tim Cahill". Recognition from other teams' fans is "respect", and there is no greater accolade.

A Legend, and a stalwart who always gave his best and he was the scourge of many teams, especially the RS. A shame he is gone but he will never be forgotton - top class bloke off the park. Good Luck Tim for the future, you'll always be welcome back.

19 April, 2009 The Observer. This is when I knew the peoples club had a peoples player. Would you ever consider a move to Liverpool if they came in for you? Never. Never, never. No money in this world could convince me to play for Liverpool. And that's not a lack of respect for Liverpool supporters or the football club. It's for the respect for the Everton supporters. You just can't do that. Morally, it's not right. It goes against everything I stand for. No chance.

Good luck Tim. You're a legend. We will miss you but it was the right time to go. Hope we see you again soon at Goodison. I have a little tear in my eye. You will always be part of the Everton family. All the best Tim.

He will be remembered by every Evertonian as a true legend. Sometimes players can just grab the hearts of their supporters and not let go and Cahill is one of those players.

No-one better at being the ' unmarkable goal poacher.' We nearly ruined him last year asking him to play up front and nullifying his threat, but I reckon he had one more influential year left......now not to be; cameo in Hibbo's testimonial ?

Gutted about Tim going, but would like to wish him all the very best for the future. Best bargain buy of all time. He is the epitome of The Moyes Era. When he speaks about Everton, you know he's a fan. Tim is up there with the best we've had. Great call no 7...get 17 printed on the corner flags. Best memories are numerous defences wondering where the hell he came from to score...especially against the RS.

Aussie, Evertonian, gentleman. Tim, u will never be forgotten, just watched your final goal for Blues and celebrated like it was your 1st, just like you did with every other one. Come back anytime Tim

A legend end of story. No one can doubt his commitment to the blues , watched his DVD unseen journey again 2 day superb and his Aussie abroad show his love and passion for us is second to none. Favourite Cahill goal sitting next to his wife his mum, dad, brothers when he scored overhead at Chelsea, they were going more beserk than mep

Gutted. I still thought he had at least one more season in him even after his below-par performances last season, like every other blue I was shocked to hear this news but although he is an Everton legend it could be a blessing in disguise with the prospects we have in the CM area.. Lundstram, Francisco, Barkley. All the best Timmy you was my favourite player for so many seasons and knew what it meant to put on a blue shirt, us Evertonians will never forget that overhead kick vs Chelski! Coyb.

Good luck Tim. Thanks for the memories. I will always remember the goal against Villa in the FA cup or the header against city away in the last min, or the over head kick against chelsea or the countless goals against the shite or the last minute header against Sunderland. I could go on! Tim you're a legend!!!!

The word "legend" sits very comfortably on Tim Cahill's shoulders. Many have more ability but I have never seen a football player with a better attitude pull on the famous royal blue jersey. Good luck Tim. We will miss you but wish you only the best

Someone you could count on to give 100% no matter the circumstances and the position he was asked to play. For me a true hero and will be talked about for years to come like the other greats. Best memory, last minute equaliser at Anfield !

My fave Everton player of the last 8 years. Tim gave much more to Everton and Evertonian's than he ever took. Tim, thanks for being loyal, thanks for sweating blue, thanks for inspiring others and bonding the dressing room and thanks for never taking a backward step. I will, for the rest of my life smile when I hear the name TIM CAHILL. Get back to Goodison one day and listen to the roof lift in your honour.

Its never a good time to let someone of Tim's calibre leave. He is the first player to show the Mike Lyons fight for years. I was fortunate enogh to meet Tim just after an away game at Wigan (we won 2-1) and he was a real gent. I for one put you above big Dunc because you stayed even when the big boys came sniffing. Good luck in NY and come back and see us

Gutted as the reality sinks in. A 200% legend. I remember Tim at the Park End in his suit getting drenched by freezing rain but determined to sign every autograph request from the fans and complete every photo shot with the fans. My only wish is that he returns one day to inspire others. Thanks mate.

I suppose it's been on the cards for a while, but I'm gutted he's finally gone. An absolute Everton legend, and I wish him well. Best moment....swapping his Australia shirt for an Everton one at the world cup and any of his goals against the redshite.

A true Everton/Football Legend! the sort of player everyone wants in there team! Loyal, committed, never heard him whinge or whine about contracts etc - many other pro's could learn a lot from the blue kangaroo. The time is just about right for him to go, but he'll never be forgotton! TRUE EFC LEGEND!!

Very sad this morning after hearing the news. There isn't too many players now a days that would spark this kind of emotion. Think he has made the correct decision though, best to finish at the top. Best of luck Tim for the future you will always be a Goodison legend.

Favourite Timmy moment? Something not terribly important actually. We were playing Wigan away, a side full of six foot plus athletes. Game was stalemate at 0-0 . Then, a late second half corner from Baines in front of 5,000 baying Evertonians. Who rises to but the ball in, almost in slow motion? The blue kangaroo. We went bonkers. Will miss you Tim, you are the best, and you know you have the support of all EFC fans always . Altogether now " New York, New York is a wonderful town, if Timmy goes up and you'll be one-nil down! "

Always remember being early (for once) for kick off and hanging around where the players park up.. Cahill arrived and a young lad in front of me in an Australian accent shouted him over and Tim being Tim obliged and had a quick chat. Turns out the lad had travelled to the UK and made the point of watching Everton/Cahill whilst over here. the young ozzy had his camera and i offered to take their picture together. Tim again obliged and unfortunately then had to go. To this day i dont know why i didnt ask the ozzy to take one of me with him!! lol Good luck Tim ..and thanks for 'that kick' against Chelsea.

Like many I knew it was time but huge lump in throat now that it's happened. Blue hero, blue legend, and an absolute Moysey bargain to boot! My only problem is the price. Journeyman Robbie Keane managed to go for £3.5mil and he was over 30. Cahill had 3 years left on his contract and goes for only 1. Hmmmmmm, I hope #2 Mike in Liverpool is right on the money with his Landon theory!

Gutted. Real bummer if you ask me. We will seriously struggle to replace player of that ilk. Greatly saddened by the news, but time is relentless 'customer'. Give Tim a testimonial. Least he deserve. Probably whole EPL breathe sigh of relief when news hit front/back pages. Best header of the ball on the planet. We lost great player, true Pro. *running away crying*

My favourite Tim Cahill moment was when he first put the Blue jersey on until today when I am so sad. Last season our goal scoring midfielder was taken out of the midfield, so no one should ever criticise him. He was a GREAT BLUE I wish him the best of luck but it's a great move for him and he finishes on a high.

What a fantastic servant and ambassador for the club. He really is a true blue legend. I'm afraid we are probably going to really miss him off the pitch rather than on the pitch as I don't think we can underestimate the part he played in the team spirit of the club. Good luck Tim.

OVERHEAD KICK - CHELSEA AWAY!!! Skills to pay the bills. The hairs on my neck stand up when i still see that goal. And also agree with #16 city away goals...

Been a great loyal servant and i hope his loyalty has rubbed off on the younger lads. The timing is right for this move, his impact and contribution in games has been dropping off particulary last season which seemed to change our style of play when timmy was on, same way it did when big dunc graced us. I think we have the players with pace now to be more effective with balls to feet or into the spaces. The timing is perfect to allow room for the lads coming through. All the best Timmy and i hope the corner flags in the US get a good hiding from you!! IMWT

Gutted totally. But it's also the best time for him to have gone. His knees and hamstrings have gone now and he can't last more than 30 minutes now. Granted he would be breathing out of his arse and would play for 120 minutes every week still I'm sure but the time is right now. Get to the states and get an even bigger wad of cash Tim and retire in a nice easier environment mate. That's not a criticism at all either. He has shown total loyalty to the Blues and always given his all. Never rocked the boat, never talked up a move or even entertained the idea. So good bye and good luck big man.

Gutted to see Tim leave but i think his best days are behind him and we need to build for the future! Tim wont be forgotten in a hurry and will always have a deserved place in our hearts! Encouragingly - i doubt Moyes would have let him go without some sort of replacement lined up which will be interesting to see...All the Best Tim!

A true blue, someone who knew what it meant to put on an everton shirt and one whos presence on and off the field will be missed. Would have loved him to get a send off, maybe at Hibbos testimonial but doesn't look like that will happen. Right time for a new challenge and to show the MLS what he can do. Good luck Tim. Best memory - city away or every goal celebration!

I am gutted he has gone but wish him all the best. Has been a great signing for us and probably the best pound for pund signing in the premier league. His form has dipped in the last season or two but I think that was down to his travelling commitments with Australia.

Loved Tim. He was a big hero for us when we needed one, just like Big Duncan was. He never failed to give less than 100%. Australia can be proud of him. Good luck to him for the rest of his life. I hope he comes back to visit us when he can. I suppose all good things have to come to an end.

We use the word "legend" too often in this country but this man in my eyes is a blue legend. He gave everything for this team and gave me moments at games I will remember forever. The blue kangaroo will be sorely missed. All the best Tim, Everton will always be your home.

I've been saying all year he needs to go. But now I'm absolutely gutted. Legend on and off the field. Right time to go, but Christ Timmy you're gonna be missed. Favourite Cahill moment? Loads. But probably my shout was against Newcastle in 04-05 when him and an on-loan Mikel Arteta absolutely dominated the midfield. Cahill smashed in the 4th place clincher. We knew then we had a blue legend. Get the no. 17 printed on all our corner flags Bill.
