Viva Zapata! Not.
Bookmark and Share

Our Snout in the Goodison Road chippy whispers a rumour of Cristian Zapata, born 30 September 1986, now a free agent after a season with Spanish Segunda Division outfit Villarreal in Catalonia. His agent has been spreading rumours that the Colombian international defender is on the move, possibly to us.

Zapata usually plays centre back, sometimes full back. He played in Italy for six years with Udinese in Serie A, 194 games and scored 5 goals. So far he's played 36 games and scored no goals in one year in Spain. He's also played 12 games for Colombia and scored no goals.

We've all got bad memories of EL Madrigal, Pierluigi Collina and a disallowed Big Dunc goal that kept us out of the Champions League in 2005. So when The Yellow Submarine sank into La Segunda Division we all made a little party.

Take this one with a large dose of salt and vinegar.

To Maddi at 2 - the article actually says "...after a season with Spanish Segunda Division outfit Villarreal..." You say he was with Villarreal for a year until "...relegated in May." If he played for them between May 2011 and May 2012 that means he played for a season. You also say "...Villarreal were relegated in May..." Therefore Villarreal are a "Spanish Segunda Division outfit" as stated. Therefore the article is correct. However you might wish to revise your grammar in the phrase "...Villarreal were relegated..." as the word "Villarreal" is a singular noun not a plural noun. Therefore the noun must be followed by the singular tense of its verb, which is "was," not "were." We British are aware you Americans sometimes struggle with our language. This is why we try to help you with it. I hope this helps.

Not only were we denied the potential £20m CL spot that year, we (and other neutral spectators alike worldwide) were robbed of one of the greatest Everton comebacks we would have ever made! Everton was taken out because they thought 5xEnglish PL teams in the competition would be bad for the game! (Or Revenue!) That is why they gave the job (The Hit) to best Ref in the world @ the time "Pierluigi Collina" (Assassin Looky Likey) to do the Dirty Deed as they thought no one would dare question his decision! They were wrong! As a result, Collina was asked to fall on his sword and resign his post to stop any further speculation! Google "Collina Gets it" and you will see an Everton fan grill him on the matter and his piss poor excuse for the decision! Poor Everton! Always gets it in the teeth when it comes to Europe for no fault of its own! If anything, this should be used as a great incentive to get back into the Champions League! How it all could have been different!

Clearly Maddi is on his or her blob. In all honesty mate, no one is remotely interested in what you said. The point of the article is to inform fans of a possible signing, with bits and bobs added here and there, sometime for what we call 'humor'. As for the Prem returning the 'favor'....you haven't got a hope in hell mate, unless of course Collina has come out of retirement and been allocated to all of our games.

Just to clarify Maddi: the real spelling is 'favour' in the English language . Stick to baseball!

Always thought he was a good referee up to that point. He robbed us of a group stage slot. Whatever went through his mind to disallow Big Dunc's goal is beyond me. Watch it a thousand times nothing wrong whatsoever. As for this guy... forget. Rather keep Johnny any day.

I must have watched that Duncan goal ten times over. I still can't find anything wrong with it or action by anybody in the penalty area to let Collinna disallow it. No wonder that was his last refereeing match, as crooked as a dog's hind leg.

I well remember that night, through the narrow streets to the tiny stadium where the 'referee of all referees' cheated us out of a deserved result. Bald headed t**t.

Just clarifying a few things: Zapata is under contract at Villarreal for a few more years, but is expected to be sold shortly to an as-of-yet unknown destination. He played one year in the Primera, not the Segunda; Villarreal were relegated in May, and will play the upcoming year in the Segunda. Villarreal, located in Vila-real, Spain, is in the province of Castellón, not in the autonomous community of Catalonia. And as for the final remark, hopefully the Premier League can return you the favor. --Maddi Villarreal USA, villarrealusa.com

Would his arrival signal the end of Johnny H? Not sure this guy is a better player or even on par.
