Jags Calls On Somone To Fill Timmy's Boots
Bookmark and Share

Phil Jagielka will be buoyed by today's news that Everton have re-signed Steven Pienaar, however he is calling on the squad to rise to the challenge of playing without Timmy Cahill next season.

Like us all, Jags was sad to see Timmy go after he moved on to New York Red Bulls on a three-and-a-half year deal last week. Jags knows we will miss him but hopes that someone else step into Cahill's shoes. A big step for someone to take.

Jags said: 'Hopefully we'll have someone else to step up to the plate.'

' We will miss him on and off the pitch. He came up with big performances in the most important games. He's got the best record since the war in the derbies and I think Liverpool will be glad to see the back of him!'

'He'll definitely be missed. He's been around here eight years and had some fantastic moments for the club. He was a quite close friend of mine, we spent a bit of time off the pitch doing stuff, but I'm sure we will see him again anyway.'

'You look back at the video clip of his goals, and while you might forget some of them, it really brings a smile to your face to watch them again.'

'He put his heart and soul into the club and he's now got a fantastic move to the MLS and a great team in the Red Bulls. Along with his wife and kids it should be a nice place to live.'

Who will that 'someone' be? Steven Naismith, Big Vic or Young Ross?

What do you think?

During the Euros, DM said he saw Jags as a future captain. Well maybe he should be the one to "step up" now that Tim has gone. He's certainly capable.

Definitely not Victor, he is such a poor player.. Where he gets this attitude from to keep questioning Moyesy's decisions and demanding to start.. Every time I've seen him start he has been blowing after 10 minutes he looks unfit and just an all round poor player. On the odd occasion he will come on, not pass to anyone and score a goal. He plays with a chip on his shoulder, and isn't good enough to play for Everton.. PLEASE SELL HIM DURING THIS WINDOW!!! And play Ross in the centre and not on the wing.

I think Naismith will slot into this role just behind Jelavic, they have a good understanding of each other and we should hopefully be able to hit the ground running for a change!

I'd like to see Gueye get some time playing behind Jelavic, and I've liked what I've seen from Barkley but suspect Naismith is the ready made replacement.

Once Naismith is fit, it will depend whether Moyes deploys him in Tims role, where he and Jelavic had so much previous success, or play him on the right, where he also linked up well as he used to cut in. I think Osman could be the answer as when deployed in the middle he is far better than wasted on the flanks. Behind Jelavic ? as he has a great footballing brain and quick feet to pick out a pass, could be the making of him at his time in his career. You know what i really really like ? we actually now have several options that could work well, shows progress made with the squad
