Cottee On Jelly

West Ham fan, Tony Cottee has (for some reason) come out singing the praises of Nikica Jelavic saying that he can be among the top Premiership strikers next season and that Moyesy should build a team around Jelly!

We have only seen Jelly for a relatively short time but we already know that he is the dogs bollocks, scoring 11 goals since his transfer from Glasgow Rangers in January.

Cost-a-lottee said: 'He's had four months to get used to the players, to the wonderful fans, to the Club and what it means to everyone and he's made a wonderful start to his Everton career.'

'I think that will stand him in good stead and touch wood he stays clear of injuries in pre-season so he can be raring to go.'

'If Everton can look to build the team around him in whatever David Moyes thinks is the best way to do that, I think we'll be looking at a player who can possibly be in the top five goalscorers in the Premier League next season.'

Tell us something new Tony!

Cottee was crap and only bagged against shit sides, was a selfish player. He also kept a scrapbook of all his goals. I'm with Paul Childwall on this one and believe me folks I'm never with him on anything.

TC was excellent for us, always banged in plenty of goals and lets not forget that his 16 (yes 16) league goals in 93/94 most likely kept us up. His league goals vs games ratio for Everton is better than Big Dunc's by a long chalk and whilst I love Sharpy, it was significantly better than his too, even though Sharpy played in better Everton teams. TC was a great player for Everton and I shall not listen to anyone say otherwise. Name me three 1980s/90s EFC strikers with a better league goals vs games ratio?

...and he scored a hat-trick on his debut. Crackin' player in my opinion. Has anyone done so since? -I can't recall.

Cottee was my childhood footballing hero. I met him once at Selhurst Park and he was very friendly and gave me an autograph. I wholeheartedly agree with what he has to say about Jelavic. COYB!

Well said Paul. Surprised with the dismissive article. Tony Cottee always had time for the fans, was always complimentary about the club even after he had left, scored against Liverpool and as for not scoring against the top clubs, like who Paul (6) ? Liverpool Utd, Arsenal? As for the 89 final, you wouldn't agree the circumstances were a little unique? It would hardly have been appropriate for him to have been crying on the pitch when 96 fans had lost there lives only weeks earlier, would it? A little perspective please. As for Sharp, did you ever try and get an autograph off this guy when he was at the club? The reason Sharp had no time for Cottee was because Tony was not interested in his and Ratcliffes bullying clique.

I hope he can, but I'll be amazed if Nik can keep up his scoring rate. All the old pros will have assessed him now and will be ready for him this time round. That said, the way he scores makes him one of the hardest to defend against, he just ghosts into position before you know it and he never hits the ball hard.

TC is our 9th all time top scorer... He has a better goals record than Ferguson and got sent off less for stupid thuggery.

In my 30 odd years being a season ticket holder I haven't hated many players, but Tony cottee is a different story total garbage. Never scored against the so called better teams, even his 3 goals against the shite grin the clown was at fault for the lot.Never a team player, selfish, and from storys you hear from Kendall and sharp was the same of the pitch. When we lost the 89 final watch him laughing joking afterwards, that was cottee summed up. Didn't care about club, players and fans.USELESS

I have seen TC as a pundit on ESPN-Malaysia channel which has alot of ex Prem players giving their opinion. He always seems to make alot of sense unlike McMahon, so being a striker i think he knows what he is talking about. AS WE DO ! come on Jelly, make the oposition wobble

I agree Cottee was great for us... leave him alone... On Jelly my only thought is what if he gets injured, who do we put up front???

What's with the sarcasm aimed at Tony Cottee? He was a cracking player and goal scorer for us, who never shied away from being involved with the fans through the likes of 'When Skies are Grey' etc. Stop being knobheads.

I'll be getting a tenner on him to be top goalscorer. With the likes of Pienaar coming back and actually looking like a solid contender for Europe, don't see any reason why Jelly can't get top goalscorer, he's got the quality. COYB!
